WHEEL SMASHING LORD 3-83 to 3-84
Chapter: 3
“In his fundamental nature, man fears what he cannot destroy. He allows this fear to burrow into his heart and in defense he obsesses over control. Abandoning this notion is the most important principal of kingship. A man can set a sail but can never get the breeze to blow on its own. If he tries, it shall surely drive him mad.”
-Au Vam

How sick would it be if we get the “Bearer of the word Diamond and Goddess of the seven-part world” for White Chain next page?
Does anyone see the fish thing as one of the angels in Evangelion?
White Chain is being unfair to Solomon. He’s trying to do the right thing, yet she keeps whining about being given power and authority. Like, get your shit together WC.
Oh shi-
The second page didn’t show up yesterday.
Anyway, fish for dinner.
I kinda feel like S-diddy has a point here: suppose he just up and walked away one day, would the outcome have been much different than the chaos we see engulfing the empire today? Just look at what happened to the kingdoms of other strong rulers who died suddenly, such as Alexander the Great or Ghengis Khan.
The empire might have been a bit dictatorial with it’s law-and-order, but it was a PARADISE compared to what most of the other 6 demiurges had wrought, and simply letting all that collapse has lead to a whole lot of suffering among the weak and dispossessed. Who’s picking up the slack for protecting them? Certainly not the angels…
Power is a corrosive force. The foolish seek it, the idiotic let it take control of them and the evil will do everything in their power to keep it. But ultimately power needs to be grasped and wielded, to what end is the choice of the one who possesses it.
Solomon David will not survive this.
She’s going to give the critter the middle finger, going by where that power seems to emanate from.
man: saves woman.
woman: your arrogance is boundless.
what a bitch.
This spread is so raw. Solomon’s bloody anguish in panel 5 and White Chain channeling her righteous fury in the final panel are so climactic.
Get em, girl!
The difference is that what White Chain is being offered is genuine and real, because Solomon is sacrificing everything he has to offer it to her. What Allison is being offered is ultimately a con, because Gog is only trying to benefit herself, to share her form of self-indulgence with another.
Kill the fish, throw away the worm.
Leave the gun, take the cannoli.
It seems Ki Rata is as easy as breathing.. breathing underwater anyway.
Loving the current arc. Gog’s demeanor is amazingly disturbing. The god of the lake is freaking cool and still only a backdrop to Solomon’s and White Chain’s confrontation.
And an interesting way to bring Cio back. Really looking forward to seeeing where all this goes.
I just wanted to say, I have been rereading some of the previous parts, especially the Jadis section, and it really does hold up great.
I know you always said this comic is meant to be read in chunks rather than page by page, but I was surprised how much of a difference it makes. I liked the Jadis section back then, but now, with everything done and some knowledge of what is to come, it really shines imo.
I feel like folks need to give David a bit more credit, dude’s been through the wringer and evaded so many possible deaths already. I don’t think he dies here.
Of course if this is where the former Lord of Pride actually does bite it, I will be forced to eat my words.
HIT HIM WITH THE MOVE
God, this comic is so damn cool.
Hell of a beach episode.
“power can never be destroyed”
I would have thought it was perfectly possible to destroy power. Those Keys were created after all, I don’t see why they can’t be uncreated. I also don’t see why Whitechain can’t walk away from the presumed leadership the people have put upon her. Sure, there will likely be fighting and such, but they will recover.
HOWEVER, this links back to a big part of the series and cycle which is Zoss passing on his power to a successor, the reason for which we still don’t understand, only that Zoss understood that he could master the wheel but not break it.
Listen White Chain, I get it. Having a brain sucks. Just gotta learn to turn it off.
Peak
Ha, I just realized these are some of the best hands you’ve drawn in the comic, Abbadon.
the fish may be a plot device but the fish is an asshole and does not care
“Breathe, and you shall know it” indeed. I am in love with that last panel, so good.
