Ah… so the maybe sword is not object but technique- and the demiurges all particularly vulnerable to it. All of them are, in some way, constrained, bound – incapable of changing their own fate. Jadis was of course the most obvious- unable to change her fate due to already knowing it- while she still lived- Mottom was trapped by her own empire- and Jagganoth imprisoned by Metatron’s scheming?
Allison who is marked by every battle she’s fought. Scars from Chio, Jagganoth and Jadis. Does not have a mark left on her from the cut of the maybe sword.
I’ve often struggled with getting any momentum in my work, in comics and prose, but following this comic has been inspiring. I’m learning to make things you’ve got to sort of take your pen and perform some kind of. . .continuous motion.
Oh hell to the frack no. I just wanted to get some street tacos, get home finish reading that book and maybe a nap. Ain’t got no time for godhood, have a good job delivering noodle for a ramen shop.
So anyway can we stop it will all this sword nonsense and get to the part where we finally learn Meti ten Ryu’s secret technique for picking her teeth?
Inquiring minds want to know.
This isn’t the first time she’s no-sold an attack. Back in the barfight with KILLBOSS, the goblin failed to stab Allison when her Key activated. So why was Jagannoth’s infinite swords attack different?
In narrative, maybe it just never occurred to them?
(On some level, we have to acknowledge that plot considerations may be playing a large role here. Allison and Maya, I suspect, act as a foil to Jagannoth and vice versa. It is necessary to give them the opportunity to represent life/free will, in contrast to Jagannoth’s dead-man philosophy.)
No-selling a knife to the eye in a bar fight? That’s realizing that you have STATS!
No-Selling the Life Cut of the Maybe Sword, in the hands of the most dangerous swordswoman in existence? That’s realizing that the stats are bullshit, it’s your character sheet, it was written in pencil, and you have an eraser
it’s a property exclusive to the maybe sword. allison’s surviving it means she has an understanding of it, which means she can use it. jagganoth, who seems to believe his fate is to destroy the world and cannot decide otherwise, should be vulnerable to it. maybe.
Allison literally nu-uhed her way out of this one. I love her.
“Those that lack the ability to choose their own fate will be cut regardless.”
Panel Two Pillar-san says: “L-Listen, I’m still working on myself, give me some time…”
Fantastic.
So, because jaggy believes he’s fated to destroy everything and can’t change that. The sword “should” work. Is that what this is getting at?
I wonder if any of the lessons Alison has learned can count towards college credit
Bravo!!
Is Frog-Priest okay?!?
Ohhh, brilliant. It cuts only the Maybe, the Uncertain, that without Conviction. Those with a firm Belief remain unharmed.

Maybe.
Mop Frog is going to be pissed.

A conversation held atop the corpses of the gods. The makers of the worlds could not change fate, themselves?
Hey, congrats on making it real, Abaddon.

Those noodles look delicious.

one day Allison and Maya will discover the sound that the Throne of the God of the World makes when it falls over
my guess is “zoop”

Y E S
got to be the best comic I’ve ever read keep it comin’ Abbadon
This … this is not materialist, dialectic or otherwise, at all!
Heh.
The Maybe Sword may be one of the undoubtedly worst swords ever made, but it seems to be an excellent kitchen knife!
Abbadon missed a great opportunity to have one statue throw the horns.
What a useless technique. What a useless lesson.
The ramen looks delicious, though. Maya is surely a better noodle salesman than a teacher. What a paradox.
If Alison can decide death has no hold over her, that she can deny reality, why then do the other key holders not simply do the same?
That’s something that’s been bothering me.

That’s a lot of property damage.
