It has been said that madness is the mercy of the mind in face of unfathomable horror or suffering. It is the sane one who must be pitied as they face the full brunt of a terrible reality and fate. One who is Mad may find either escape in a merciful alternative perspective or acceptance in a world as broken as they are.
oh, she is more than a passable barista! if you remember, back in the dragon-bank-heist-arc, whan she was trying to find a version of herself that could get her out of ow fuck danger level, one of them was her barista skills-and THAT part of her had more than two arms, which simbolizies godhood. in other words, her barista skills were literley god like.
There was this emperor, and he asks this shepherd’s boy, “How many seconds in eternity?” And the shepherd’s boy says, “There’s this mountain of pure diamond.
It takes an hour to climb it, and an hour to go around it!
Every hundred years, a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain.
And when the entire mountain is chiselled away, the first second of eternity will have passed!”
You must think that’s a hell of a long time…
‘Unearned’ is the word that springs to mind, I think. We go from a years-long depressive funk, to Zaid misquoting some of her own words back at her in one meeting, she finds the mask fragment, and suddenly she’s all up in this kind of euphoric enlightenment. I can see what you’re going for, but I think it’s undermined by the poor pacing.
It really feels like Abbadon is trying to get through this arc as fast as possible. Which is understandable, this arc has been the worst of the comic so far.
It’s only been a few minutes in-story to go from casual acceptance of nihilism and the universe being meaningless to “FUCK YOU IMMA KICK ASS AND BE AWESOME ANYWAY!”??? There’s so many missing steps here.
Okay, there have been quite a few moments of badassary from Alison over the story… but this is the first one that actually shook me to my core. Truly an awe inspiring page…terrifying in its truth. It could all end right here and I would be satisfied.
Alright, this is where you’ve lost me, Abby. Why “enjoy”? I get the basic message, things suck but that doesn’t mean we can’t keep going, but why the word “enjoy” specifically?
Because he already used “happy” a few times, presumably in reference to Albert Camus’ “The Myth of Sisyphus”, which culminates with:
“The struggle itself … is enough to fill a man’s heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy.”
Violence is its own reward, particularly in a cruel, uncaring universe. If misery is inevitable, then find joy in the struggle itself, in defying the inevitable.
Perhaps it will make more sense if I re-read later on. But right now, the word choice just strikes me as bizarre.
I don’t like that Camus quote either. People throw it around much too easily without considering what it means. But thank you for trying.

It’s all in how one looks at things.

Turns out Alison had mad one leg jumping skills
And well portals always come in handy when it comes to all matters related to transportation
She talks about walking out of there but it is going to be difficult with just one leg. Maybe she should have kept at least that one.

Hmm.

yes, quite. i still like the arc, but that is quite a flaw of it.
