Like chaining him up and yeeting him? Sure. Unlikely from a dramatic POV, but makes sense in universe.
Breaking your sword: also totes legit.
Piercing the indestructable? Puncturing the unpuncturable?
That… doesn’t fit with what I understand about how this universe is supposed to work, and I am confused.
It also doesn’t fit with how I thought this STORY was supposed to work, so I am doubly confused, and now waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Everything is a lie. The world we perceive is an illusion. A mask, greasepaint on an actor, a device to snare the unwary. This is the beginning of wisdom.
Long has it been posited that the stuff of the universe had an ultimate smallest particule that was indivisible, indestructible. People of learning eventually refined the nature of that smallest particule: no longer was the smallest piece of limestone simply a tiny rock, but an equation called calcium carbonate. It’s indivisibility was suddenly in question, it could be subtracted from and divided. Surely these smaller components might be indivisible? The learned folk pressed on with sharper chisels made of raw protons and neutrons and found that once again the invulnerable could be broken. They carried forth with machines that were both grander in scale and finer of point and cracked even the components within. Ultimately, they realized that a thing can be invulnerable to everything that exists, but if you redefine what exists by bringing forth new ideals, now you have a way in.
On the topic of Jaggy’s invulnerability: my theory is that what we’re seeing is the answer to the question “what happens when an indestructible object meets an unstoppable force.”
And that answer is “something similar to what happens when matter meets antimatter.”
Come on guys! It shouldn’t be that big a surprise that Jagger can be pierced, it’s just that it can’t kill him, no more than it killed Lots o’ Gog – she’s had a hole in her middle for how long now?
I don’t think Inky is surprised that the sword went in. Everyone else looks upset too, and why should that upset them? I think they’ve sensed something that is not apparent to us yet, and they don’t like it one bit.
Ooh, some comments above inspire a theory: it’s not even Jagg’s body that’s invincible, but his soul. Much like the angels whose feathers he bears, managing to destroy his strong but fallible body will merely banish his immortal spirit to the Void. Perhaps he was counting on exactly this sending him right to confront Metatron?
After all, we haven’t yet seen what word he bears. It could be ‘blade’ but it could also be ‘mind’. The latter might help Jagganoth fit your theory nicely.
The idea of true invulnerability is farcical. The very nature of existence demands that anything which resists entropy does so because it is in some form vulnerable to the absolute cutting power that is oblivion.
However, the question remains – will a single sword through the chest be enough to fell a being which may not have a true heart to speak of? To be sure, being preceded by enough energy to crack a world concentrated on the point of impact will likely help.
I just hope they are prepared for the cataclysmic amount of energy that will be released by such a reaction.
I’m not Jim, but. . .
It’s all just dramatic imagery with no explanation behind it or coherent plot. Like something trying too hard to be cool, yet failing utterly because it’s far too shallow. Then again, maybe that’s just because I don’t lean towards comics that are 100% action.
42 Fragments the Universe Beyond All Reinetgration
You might consider Abbadon’s recent tweet that these pages should be read together after the whole sequence is published. Read thus, one passes quickly over the dramatic imagery to find out WTF happened, then goes back to drool over the art. It works better that way.
I understand how he feels. Lots of shows have buildup with a unbeatable villain losing. It kinda takes the takes out of it, and along with it goes the interes. Jagg has wounded 1 of our caste, but so far only randoms have died. I would have rather had them run and train then have them fight and win here. Mind you a single stab doesn’t mean win.
It was built up in such a way that Jagganoth winning at this point would make him all but unstoppable, though. He would have taken every key beyond the master key at that point, so his already manifold powers would be insurmountable. That’s why Al and crew turned around and fought rather than running.
Yes but them winning if they do win most certainly is not the answer, espically if it’s out of nowhere. That would be called writing yourself into a wall.
I’m going to keep reading, but the writing is on the wall. It’s become nothing but endless action with no plot. Predictable in the extreme.
Sad (and boring as hell – so to speak) since up until this chapter it had been quite eventful and inventive. And the art has improved immensely.
I had been looking forward to buying the books once I know what I’m paying for, but if it’s just going to keep on like this, well I’m not so interested. I only have so much bookshelf space, you know…
That’s perfectly valid criticism, my problem with Jim’s comment is that he didn’t explain why this page upset him so much. There have been some ex-fans in the comments but they always explain why they don’t like the current direction. (I don’t think he is complaining about the nonstop action since this is the last page of the fight.)
Lots of folks seem quite certain that Incubus pierced Jagganoth. But not all the lightings – quite a familliar sight, isn’t it? Probably suggesting that he teleports away just after making the point, i.e. delivering the last bit of the whole sealing sorcery, whatver that may be.
The question is, whether he is teleporting willingly…
Cut to Maya snatching the key from Jagganoth’s brow as he is felled by her brother.
Splash page. Red key aglow. Topple the Gods and Shatter their Thrones, Master of the Maybe Sword, Bearer of the word Blade and Lord of the Seven Part World.
From her red bindi, blade focus and desire to kill all of the gods and destroy their works, Maya has really always been more aligned with Jagganoth’s vibe than Inky’s. I actually think this has all been a set up to introducing the end game’s red god.
unless ive missed something im pretty sure they are both humans and while not actually siblings they did train under the same master so i can see why one would use the term
everyone seems to be focusing on the idea that jagg is being murked, but… it says “seal” under the comic. they have had him bound up. they aren’t trying to kill him, they’re trying to seal him up in some fashion.
when your foe can’t be killed, you find a way to defeat them that doesn’t involve killing, yes?
A good point the sword of your wit has! Even in to the hilt I doubt inky’s sword would get past a sternum of that thickness. There must be something more symbolic in piercing the skin and letting the seal touch the soul.
I actually really like this idea. Tho part of me thinks that Jag has been hyped up way too much throughout the series for that to be the case, I could see him going down and saying “fools…now you don’t know how to kill metatron…” and then cue “one winged angel” as maya swoops in and takes the key
I… honestly did not expect that.
Like chaining him up and yeeting him? Sure. Unlikely from a dramatic POV, but makes sense in universe.

Is this a decoy Jagganoth?
Everything is a lie. The world we perceive is an illusion. A mask, greasepaint on an actor, a device to snare the unwary. This is the beginning of wisdom.
Except when you achieve wisdom you realize that is a lie and the world around you is as real as it seems because perception is the way.
Everything in this universe is already pierced, just waiting for the blade to come back home.
Long has it been posited that the stuff of the universe had an ultimate smallest particule that was indivisible, indestructible. Metatron made him invincible.
Only two beings could undo that.
Metatron, the voice of Yisun, and…?
And then everything exploded.
I think you could be right there.
On the topic of Jaggy’s invulnerability: my theory is that what we’re seeing is the answer to the question “what happens when an indestructible object meets an unstoppable force.”
And that answer is “something similar to what happens when matter meets antimatter.”
One part of YISUN insists the blade can cut anything.
Another part of YISUN insists that the flesh cannot be pierced, ever.
The result? The creation of a Snarl.
Come on guys! It shouldn’t be that big a surprise that Jagger can be pierced, it’s just that it can’t kill him, no more than it killed Lots o’ Gog – she’s had a hole in her middle for how long now?

GIGA! DRILL! BREAAAAAAAAAAAK!
To paraphrase ninegardens above: “Pierce the indestructible, puncture the unpuncturable, ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH”
went hilt deep XD
Ooh, some comments above inspire a theory: it’s not even Jagg’s body that’s invincible, but his soul. Jagganoth is the bearer of the word Blade, and Jadis is the bearer of the word Mind.
Do you have a source? I’m pretty sure all we have yet to match them is speculation.
Apologies, I was misremembering another title Jadis has.
It’s the fact that Incubus is even surprised that this worked that makes me wonder.
Not so invulnerable now, huh?
I have a great and terrible premonition.
Ech. He’ll be fine. We still have a hot date with a particular intro card, after all.
Were we promised such, or were we blinding ourselves in believieving we were owed such?
The author’s debt is never paid.
Throwing star from chib’ arcade
fires like gun on table laid.
HE’S BOOLING US, he’s just going to keep saying ‘this is the last page of the fight’ for another 100 pages.
decieve six billion fans.
When Incubus passes in to Jaggy, there is a sign that says, “Sorry – Your Princess is in Another Castle”.
The idea of true invulnerability is farcical. The very nature of existence demands that anything which resists entropy does so because it is in some form vulnerable to the absolute cutting power that is oblivion.

Likely the idea is not destruction but binding…
And then Incubus steal’s Jaggonoth’s power and we start the whole song-and-dance all over again 😛
I’m out. This shit has no value.
Care to explain what you mean?
Can’t imagine it’s anything but sour grapes at the guy who clearly wasn’t going to win not winning.
I’m not Jim, but. . .

Later Jim, say hi to Bob for us.

All that for a drop of blood.

* note all the lightings, of course
Our pal Gogagog didn’t contribute anything here did they?
Moral support!
Comic relief.

Inky is not Maya’s brother, they’re not even the same species. That said, she’s really waiting till the last moment to show up, isn’t she?

It’s said that there are two great tragedies in life. One is not getting what you want and the other is getting it.
I wonder, even if they win will they end up losing?
Are they really losing their party’s tank for the fight against the true endboss, metatron?
Did it work?
The storm does turn,
with eyes that burn
occipital. Learn.
We have all just been played the fool. What lies next?
Love Gog’s face.
My compliments to Jagganoth’s orthodontist, he really fixed that underbite! His fangs could use a little flossing, though.
