“Too tired to care” is probably the best either of them could hope for in the immediate future, yeah.
…Though, Maya seemed plenty tired already the previous times she spoke about her grudge with Incubus, and still felt strongly enough that “God may never forgive me for the hatred I feel for that man”. While Incubus being able to interfere with people’s minds like how he went into Allison’s and pointed out the messiness there…kinda gives a feeling that he must be very in-touch with his own emotions (which also fits describing anger as a “hammer that can shatter gods”), to the point that I doubt he’d be able or willing to shut them out for long.
So, maybe neither of them are getting even that “relief” all too easily.
I mean, she definitely was a coward. But he hasn’t known her for years, and that’s not exactly the case anymore (or at least it’s not all she is).
I am also sure he’ll be fine.
Interesting how Incubus says “We are both *blood-drinking souls*” here and then immediately Maya does a multi-slice-move somewhat like a lesser version of Jag’s “Blood Thirsting/Sated Sword Soul”…
Last section, the inset panel of Maya–I know that has to be an homage to some historical Japanese art, I just don’t know my Japanese artists enough to know the exact name of the era or artist.
But I wanted to say I always like when I spot an homage to classical art in this comic.
I’ve mostly noticed it with some of White Chain’s poses (they often call back to various pieces of European art depicting angels), and occasionally with Aesma and Cio’s poses, but I bet there’s a lot more that I’m missing because I’m a writer and not a visual artist and only partly know my art history.
Incubus may laugh at Maya’s failure to cut, but when she does it’s effective, for a time. It may give her a breath. But remember all of Incubus’s slaves (not apprentices) are set to take on Allison at the same time. He may be spread a little thin. Maya’s attack may cut the slaves off from their sugar daddy Incubus as he draws in power to recover. Allison is an apprentice of Maya, and will not give him time, and neither will Maya.
this page is using different snapshots of their history together. that was when they were both becoming apprentices of Meti. Incubus was a malnourished young Street urchin, whereas Maya was well fed and much older.
Before coffee o’clock (that’s REALLY EARLY kids, like before bed time) oh dang, glad I hit the can before checking… because I too may be there, in the trash truck. p.s. I’d be better off dead.
Wellll my take is that the sword of maybe can cut once, yet strike a dozen times (or more)
furthermore, “You must never make ‘multiple’ cuts. Each must be singular in its beauty, no matter how many precede it.” doesn’t actually preclude cutting more than once, its about the mindset. Each cut must stand on its own, not be part of a sequence.
Inky is doing it as a sequence, Auntie is striving for perfection (and victory) with each stroke, and thus is the better swordswoman
Oh her last bit really cut to the quick, seems he has gone to pieces over it. A pity. So anyway, anyone else flood a possessed 10-year-old this weekend? Oh my old stupid arms are tired still. I know better than to do that with a 2stroke brush cutter. uhg…at least one fuel grommet is destabilized to the point of leaking.
He Remained, Until his death, an Exceptionally poor swordsman
He’s still got a hog, that’s proof of life
I love the costume changes
The current fight
As Meti’s students
As Sword Saints, at the apex of their power
And back to the fight
Those two must have spent centuries cutting and trying to kill each other.
I believe no final resolution will leave either of them satisfied. It will, however, probably leave both of them too tired to care.

You should have gone for the head.

Anyway…very cool.
A good swordsman makes one cut…

what’s up with the size difference in panel 2?

*record scratch* yup, that’s me, on the left. you’re probably wondering how i got here…

You seem to have found my weakness to swords!

All she need was an opening. And she took it.
I doubt this is the end of Incubus, but in the off chance it is, I’d be very satisfied. I’ve had enough of this pasty wretch to last several kalpas.
Bye Incubus. You were awful. I love you. Please don’t revive.
Were it so easy…
’tis but a scratch
Get his ass Maya!
gawd damn girl!
She has divided him seven times.
