Wondering if there’s some significance to Solomon “coming down the mountain” in a figurative sense here as well. Maybe the man really is on the mend? Dangly tree skeletons notwithstanding…
Interesting. Svelben sounds a lot like Svalbard, a Norwegian archipelago between mainland Norway and the North Pole. It is also the location of much of The Golden Compass, whose most interesting character was arguably Iorek Byrnison – a sentient polar bear and master blacksmith not too different from our native woodsman here. Nice homage.
Well, I am totally down with Mr. Cat Woodsman guy. This epic masterwork just feels more complete with a cat creature. What’s not to like?
Of course, there’s such a variety of beings in this work that surely there’ve been other feline-like characters…in fact, Cio always had a kind of hot little kitty vibe, but I’ll go no further with that line of thinking.
So speculating on Salami Dave’s hair & beard as per the earlier discussion, I think he’s bald from all the steroids, or the demiurge equivalent, so no hair on the head. Beard could be the same as it ever was, or a big-assed thing, due to years of no trimming.
I’m sure at some point in his post-demiurge wanderings it was unkempt. The whole battle with Jagganoth must have totally blown his mind & spirit, so a sojourner’s quest, a ragged stranger traveling the worlds on his way to this frozen hermitage would make sense.
I imagine he’d go through a real “Who am I now?” thing, especially considering that he gave his power key forehead thingy to White Chain.
This is intriguing, as White Chain was the only one to ever best him in his lopsided tournament AND in the process transformed from her previous stony shell into the beautiful being she is now.
So yeah, there could be connections between these two that will play out in interesting ways.
Clearly he can still whup ass, considering his version of er, topiary. Hey, with a ten year winter you can’t wait for the leaves, or you’d never explore your artistic side. And if he kills some bad guys in the process, that’s a value add, right?
A little it of criticism for otherwise fine new pages: Add steam to their breaths. Cold environments when you breathe, your breath comes out as visible cloud. Easy way to make the environment look cold.
alt='”Even amongst border worlds, Svelben is remarkable in its ability to repulse even the most iron-stomached governors, due to its ten year winters. Appointees typically last three years there, even those formerly assigned to rebellious provinces that have had to deal with insurgents, espionage and worse. It is a quiet, uneventful, and very, very cold world. The only thing it is well known for is losing military patrols in seven day snowstorms.” – Holm Vexatus, Imperial Surveyor’
Tbh, the constant conflating of the two is getting on my nerves. Maybe it’s because I dislike that series, but there’s a totally real thing that just gets mixed up for like the dumbest reason.

Solomon Dave
Born in a cave
Stopped a crime wave
Built an enclave
Ruled just to save
but led to the grave
Burma-Shave
svelben sounds like a swell (svel) place

More subtle indication that more years passed than Allison thinks.
Pretty sure that would have been cleared up by zaid.
Glad to see he’s uh… keeping himself… busy.
Good to have a… hobby?

My protoplasmic friend raises a good point!

Honestly the whole cosmology of KSBD sort of reminds me of the Black Void, but more high fantasy.
But first, ima need about three fiddy
One wonders what words of entreaty would bring Solomon down from the mountain. We need you? Pfah! He knew that long ago.
Like. Shrike the bird of Shrike the Hyperion?
*OR Shrike the Hyperion

Not a cat person.
He’s a Kizinti.
Would only make sense that Salami Dave would go for a Kizinti world.
Tabaxi or Khajiit makes more sense because KSBD is mainly a high fantasy setting
It’s interesting to imagine White Chain and Solomon meeting and clashing wills as equals.

“Oh, you should have said so!”
Mister Mountain Man, that was literally the first thing she said to you.
Why does he say “I reckon you can go on foot from here.”?
They are already on foot.
His mustache changes sizes dramatically from his first panel to his last XD
Yeah baby! We have a furry! Time for some fan art.
