Seeker of Thrones 6-68
“It is said in some circles that the among his hoard the Grand Dragon scattered nightmarish beasts that, much like the trap-door spider, could conceal themselves while they wait patiently for prey. These creatures, however, are rumored to have the devilish power to conceal themselves as furniture, or puddles of water, or even men. They are said to have only one weakness – they are vastly stupid, and left alone are incapable of distinguishing others of their kin from enemies or prey. They have little imagination and will simply copy the form of the nearest object.
Imagine, then, if you will, a little thought experiment – a room of only these things, hundreds of them, duplicating each other’s form in idiot redundancy. The thought is, of course, quite ridiculous and chilling in equal measure. I prefer to believe their existence is confined to rumor alone.”
-Pree Parzy de Peroxes, S.C. 260, The Magnificent Beast
Now the question is, which one is but a chair?
I like how Cio is just calmly standing on the wire.
That’s not Cio, that’s Felicia
On the left, tha daft monarch.
Where is dear Yabalchoath? I cannot see her.
you sir failed the perception check.Do try again
No, that’s Cio, down there on the Other end of that same wire. She’s kinda hard to see.
I don’t see the obstacles for Suuz to jump onto next columns, the threat of “sea of mimics” will be actual only for those who fall down in it, methinks.
In a hilarious twist, this is just where Mammon dumped his overproduction of chairs around 70 years ago. Only three of them are mimics.
Solution, to me, seems to be to dip a toe into that sea of mimics, then vanish upwards again and watch them tear each other apart.
Fuck. *Chairs.* Game over, man, game over!
“Oh my god….”
“What is it? What terror do you behold?”
“The worst game of musical chairs ever.”
If I were the DM, at least a half-dozen of those statues would be the equivalent of Weeping Angels.
And don’t even get me started on the Vashta Nerada.
Who?
So maybe the mimics aren’t exactly quite to act as family friendly tour guides for small children. I posit that their idiocy mighy make them easy enough to bluff, though: Just act unsurprised when something turns out to be a mimic, treat is as though you work there, and it won’t be able to tell that you yourself aren’t also a mimic.
You never know. I’d give one a good sit, just to be sure.
Really the best course of action if one want to prove the mimics is to start hurling things to prove them to fighting each other. But even that is probably too much. Sticking to the high road would make more sense.
As if a bunch of mimics wasnt enough, now there are hundreds of them
“They are said to have only one weakness – they are vastly stupid, and left alone are incapable of distinguishing others of their kin from enemies or prey.” So… throw a stone in the middle of the chairs, see if they start nomming each other til there’s just a manageable few left xD
Zeus’s prostate!
First and formost; a room full of chairs is a waste of perfectly good wood. If one desires to sit, find a fine mossy spot or a nice cool cave; if you do not have the strength to stand, you are not fit for the forest. Secondly, a room full of chairs is rather tacky; although the Grand Dragon might not be known for his exquisite taste in aesthetics, a room full of chairs is just another room that could contain hundreds of tasteful statuettes of oneself.
Easy to say the obvious at this point, but this is also the kind of times where the one lucky fool, with key word lucky, could discover the possibility of a ruse.
Mammon: they who managed to make a room full of empty chairs terrifying. Hail the name.
I am briefly reminded of the venerated game of fools, Prop Hunt.
