Seeker of Thrones 6-67
Chapter: 6
“He that feedeth the worm called Doubt must tend it all his days,
But he that ignoreth the worm called Doubt doth permit it to swell until it feedeth upon his very heart.”
– Knight’s manual, author unknown

“Angels are tempered by law! …except that guy. He’s always been kind of a dick.”
67 Loan Shark is Kind of A Dick
Oh yes, Angels don’t get attached to petty misgivings, but there you go to be the hero. Not that I mind, and I highly doubt that peddler does either.
To grow is not a thing with which angelic flame is unfamiliar. But like most hungers long left unsated, there is a tendency to… overindulge.
Behold, my lovelies, the Petal Knights. Ephemeral. Gorgeous.
Fragile.
Angels are tempered by The Law, but The Law changes from place to place. Chaos is much more uniform in my experience.
Forging law from bills
Pushing force up hills.
Enforcing public wills.
Hrmm… You hear that “PPppssshhhtttt!” sound? That’s the noise a can of woop-@ss makes when it is being openned…
Delicious.
Damn those Petal Knights.
So uncivilized.
Civilization is rather the problem with them.
Entirely the wrong sort of civilization.
ANGEL FIGHT.
I shall prepare my archons with mops, for the aftermath.
Humanity; That foul little flame. Why does it burn so hot?
Because, given half a chance, it will grow to consume and shape creation until it is all observed and reaped.
It seems to my eyes that the Law cannot be turned inward. Or, at least, there is no stipulation on lying to one’s self…
That aside, this petal path rogue strikes me as being of a lesser sort then the lamented Delicious. Let’s see if the bastard can give good White Chain a proper fight, poor sod sounds like they need the simplicity of an ethical argument in the Universal Language.
Time for random angel #145 to get a whuppin’
Denial is a fascinating drug — easily procured, and near helplessly addictive.
And even as withdrawal symptoms become harsher and harsher the longer you take it, it’s perfectly legal.
Behold, even the angels partake in it.
Silly? Yes. Appreciated? Yes. Fun? Yes.
(SOMEONE’S a fan of East of West…)
STOP. YOU HAVE VIOLATED THE LAW.
If we don’t act, crimes will thrive.
Clapped in irons, watch them writhe.
“You’re coming with me, dead or alive.”
DELICIOUS IS THAT YOU? OH GOD PLEASE TELL ME MY OTHER FAVORITE ANGELIC TRANSGENDER DAUGHTER IS BACK!
It is a curious thing, the interplay between the petal and the root.
The Root claim gender to be a concept beneath them- crude and grotesque, a sign of corruption by exposure to the mortal world.
The Petals share the assessment, but not the reasoning behind it. To all but the youngest of Petal Knights, gender is an insipid, childish conceit. If your flesh is the flame immortal, why limit yourself to a single role’s restriction?
I think it’s going to take longer than that to reincarnate from what Juggs did to her.
This is a new player.
Angelic reincarnation is a process generally requiring millennia at the minimum. Batting some unknown external influence, the angel known as Delicious shall not be reappearing in this story.
P-r-e-tty sure she got her head bashed to a pulp by Juggernaut Star Scours the Universe and is going to spent the next few eons on reincarnation-vacation. Sorry.
Someone there is not a respecter of teacups. They shall be made to suffer!
“You have broken the LAW. And some teacups.”
I sympathize with 82 White Chain’s sentiment, but not their conclusion. While the law may be no more, we may still find fulfillment through wandering, introspection, and acts of valour. Of course, I much greatly prefer White Chain’s approach than that of our fallen brother in purple.
Methinks that our 82 Chains doth protest too much.
Sure, humans are riddled with weaknesses, flaws, foolish thoughts, and bad decisions. But one must remember that a lot of those self same humans are capable enough to find the strength to atone for those mistakes, and in plenty of cases, rise above them. Until all the virtues they don and good fortune they spread make those mistakes worthless to contemplate.
But a Angel… They’re not designed to make mistakes. They’re suppose to be better than all other species in all other universes. Better than all humans.
So tell me, if a Angel makes a mistake that a Human would make, how many virtues must come of them before that error is forgotten?
Hrmm… My Grandaddy used to say: “One aw-shit wipes out a whole lot of atta-boys.”
Is the redemption of White Chain going to be a full sub-plot?
An angel will break before they bend.
Then they can be reforged.
Angel’s, much like their once Holy Law, are easier to break than bend.
“The most convincing lies are those told to oneself.”
-Naysayers Guild adage
So many adages and mantras and scriptures. Pah! You can’t be quoted if all you ever use are sumeone else’s words.
Of course that vain bastard gave me his name, so I can see how that doesn’t mean much coming from me.
And just who do you suppose first wrote our book of maxims? I’ve always maintained, there’s nothing like a pithy saying to make knowledge stick in the empty head of a novice Naysayer.
Hrmm… Tried to join the Naysayers Guild this one time. They said “No”.
>.>
Jerks the lot of them.
I swear if Leonard’s been turning people away again to avoid doing the paperwork, I’m going to wring his neck.
Fallen Petal.
Fallen Thorn.
Neither can bleed/
and you my cup will run over.
That angel looks as though it could give one a tickling most unpleasant.
