Well, much as is the case with metamorphic alteration, intense heat and pressure are often the catalysts by which our hearts and souls are shaped into new forms.
It is an understandable error on the part of Cio and Allison. After all, all they wanted to do, was turn themselves into, a giant woman (a giant woman!).
I do believe in miracles. Changing atoms is common. Changing the heart is special, noteworthy and has eternal consequences. White chain and the peace she was missing united at last. A true healing.
For an angel, change is indeed enormous. It is also painful, very painful. And even we cannot become something new without losing something of what we once were.
It’s a different kind of smug, I think. In panel 4, Cio is shocked that an angel crept up on her and disapproves her actions. Disapproving angels are *terrifying* for Cio, given her past. In panel 6, Allison is nervous, but Cio is thinking, “Hell yes, we fought you already *and we won*”.
Not to mention how Alison is being embarrassed over how much she enjoyed the filthy deeds, then gramps escalating by deliberately blocking that middle seat to preempt any further hanky-panty :)=
Recall: none of them moved during the exhibition of Solomon. By his word, all three have earned coin, prestige, and titles. Even if they are prisoners, they are also honored guests!
Vigilent gaze just completely and joyously adapting to White Chains pronouns is ALWAYS going to make me smile. That’s real love, right there, it ain’t just for family or partners.
I am amazed that a being as loud in every aspect and meaning of the word as 10 Vigilant Gaze was able to sneak up on anyone, but I suppose even angels must on occasion speak softly and only imply the major arse kicking that’s coming your way if you try and fight them.
Also Cio’s face when Allison says they were fused together is that of a being who was only that very moment deterred from describing it as “freaky fused fuck-fighting” and I love it
Allison’s and Cio’s “oh shit are we in trouble?” expressions are a flashback to the early books. I think VG’s superpower is making mortals feel like naughty children.
Ok, I’m an idiot. I’m only putting together the Jesus references in this book now. I noticed something was up before, but it’s this page that rung the bell. I wasn’t expecting White Chain to be a Jesus metaphor here, which is why I was slow on the uptake.
White Chain has NAILS put into her a few pages back, while in a very religious-artwork pose with her arms extended, like Jesus is often depicted in religious iconography (I’m ex-Catholic, can’t you tell?)
Allison and Cio, her companions, DOUBT her. They DOUBT that her actions, which seem like certain death, are right. They fear for her safety. Jesus’ companions also doubted him.
Another angel pops up–a very old, very powerful angel (could he be considered an archangel? He’s not Prime, but…he’s certainly a powerful Messenger. He delivered a message to White Chain earlier, too…) and he tells them to HAVE FAITH, and that it’s a MIRACLE that White Chain has changed.
Most people here speculate White Chain’s going to bite it when she defeats Solomon David. But angels can resurrect. Like Jesus.
So it seems White Chain is going to die (for our sins) to protect Throne…if the Jesus metaphor is continued.
I think the one thing I love about this comic is that various angels randomly have art-history-symbolism in their designs or poses. This isn’t the first time I’ve noticed White Chain in such poses–she’s shown treading on a devil at the start of this book, which is religious art symbolism…grinding devils beneath your feet.
I’m not 100% sure I agree with your prediction, but that’s only because (if I remember right) Abaddon has false-flagged us before with magnificently in-depth excursions into symbolism that then turned out to end in a context where they were appropriate and yet had a very different final read.
The depth of symbolism and the syncretism of Abaddon’s artwork is one of the things which drew me very deeply into this story. SO MUCH is being implied and told in the backgrounds!
You know, we haven’t seen a teacup in a while now…
Man, having four arms would be so much fun. You could walk around all day doing a badass arm fold and still accomplish all your regular daily things, like making tea or giving people the finger.

Yes, that it was CIO of all people who was ready to jump into the arena and help White Chain fight Solomon David (who could probably take on White Chain AND Allicio at the same time without breaking a sweat) is really amazing. Those three have really become friends! A human an angel and a devil being that close must be a first!
Because of the cracks in the armor, you see. You know they know the cost of lies, and they know speaking straight and in accordance with law can sometimes cost even more.
Though it may seem impolite, the truth is that Vigilant Gaze did indeed wish to say “hello.” Unfortunately, as angels are quite set in their ways, and he had been doing it for several ages now, Viligant Gaze is unable to utter any greeting other than “ho there.”
“Angels, despite their size and their armored shell being extremely heavy, can move incredibly quietly when they need to. This incredible agility was purportedly granted to them by the god Koss in order to better apprehend evildoers, but angels most often use it to try and not disturb people when walking up and down stairs and on wood floors.”
This sounds like it came directly from Douglas Adams – a superpower granted by the gods to do mundane, but characteristic, things.
He met these two brave warriors in honorable combat and found them worthy of his time and praise, he’s not going to compare them to ladies of negotiable virtue
To me, 10 Vigilant Gaze has just either broken our girls’ seats or blocked them entirely upon sitting down. Also, his finger tapping against his forehead sounds like an empty flowerpot. These are all lies, of course, but they are also truths to me.

10 Vigilant Gaze! I love this guy. I did not expect him to show up and provide some perspective. What a treat! White Chain may not be as much a goner as I feared.
Oh and yeah, Cio’s expression in panel six is just epic! What a little blue hottie.
Must have been pretty great to be fused with Alison into a big woman! I mean, who wouldn’t want to be fused with either one, but both of them fused together would just be…uh…hmm…y’know…incredible…so…um…probably best if I stop thinking about it…
Us hav a soft spot f’rim an all (keepit under tha hat). Wondersome us as why Uncle Vig chose hisself an eye o un small mammal predator tho. Stoneyarse got roundsome pupils. Nae that either needs em ta see.
I see one problem though, Solomon would certainly have fought a few angels during the Universal War and if not, would have heard stories from others (there was even a below comic text of an army fighting an angel and the angel exploding), So, while he may or may not know the precise breaking point where an angel explodes, he is very likely aware of what does happen. Therefore, if shrapnel is going to be a problem, he’d likely do something about to protect himself, though that’s IF he sees it coming.
While I doubt that angels are able to make an undamaged shell explode (unless maybe it was of shoddy construction), I suppose in theory, with enough damage, an angel could basically rip their shell apart, forcing an explosion.
There’s also the issue of whether it needs to go from 100% integrity to 0 in a split second (as happened to Juggernaut Star’s first shell, though it was a proxy) for it to explode or if it can still happen if it started from 50% integrity. We just don’t have enough data points to know how exactly it would happen because a lot of people thought WC would explode when hit by the 30 cubit spear and that’s not what happened, creating more questions than answers.
I wasn’t suggesting she needed to explode–simply intentionally tanking a hit *through* a part of her body to scrape his silly exposed skin along a sharp edge. Even a fragment of paper can draw blood, after all!
One would imagine him being fairly impervious, Allison’s eyeball was after all, and Solomon though he has a key of lesser power is much more practiced and able in his demiurgery.
Allison’s invulnerability was proven vulnerable tho, when Cio almost clawed her face off, possibly as she was in an emotional state at the time. It might be difficult to get Solomon in such a state.
One wonders if he will see that sister White Chain is not giving up even in the face of insurmountable odds, and at perilous cost, due to Allison being able to inspire this in her. He may be intrigued and respect this more than any of the other competitors, or any of his offspring, and fight White Chain to a standstill, neither of them winning, neither losing; don’t know.
This was probably brought up in some earlier thread that I failed to find, but is 10 Vigilant Gaze the same vaguely sphinx-like angel angel that greeted White Chain when she was temporarily banished to the void way back in the beginning? “HO THERE, COMING OR GOING?” Same font for speech bubbles, same over-the-top speaking style?
He really is a grandpa to White Chain huh
best grandpa ever
He even sat between them to make sure there was no hanky-panky going on
Gotta leave enough room for Yisun.
I’ll admit that made me chortle
Could be go so far as to label White Chain as a metamorphic rock? I jest, of course! Change is no small matter!
Well, much as is the case with metamorphic alteration, intense heat and pressure are often the catalysts by which our hearts and souls are shaped into new forms.
The lesson of the rock is that it does move, but slowly.
Very slow; and then, very fast.
The true question is, is White Chain an anomaly or a harbinger? How many other angels harbor such incomplete spirits?
Well, we know there’s at least one, poor Juggernaut…
The history of the omniverse demonstrates that even the Primes hold incomplete sprits; wouldn’t it have gone differently otherwise.
Glory to the New Flesh!
Liminal Blossom was one as well, her form in the Void was even more feminine than even White Chains

It is an understandable error on the part of Cio and Allison. After all, all they wanted to do, was turn themselves into, a giant woman (a giant woman!).

Angels? or Cats?
You decide!
Angels
I would like to keep everyone with this username away from the cats.
Do angels shit on the hallway floor?
“Stand aside, everyone! I take large steps.”
10 Vigilant gaze just sounds like Siegmeyer of Catarina in my head, and I love it
Yo this is an excellent call.
Probably better at opening doors, all things considered. Maybe just as chill about the status quo.
I hear Chris Sabat.
I like to think the voice of Vigilant Gaze is the same voice as Brian Blessed.
Blessed be his name that speaks thunder in joy of living.
I see Cio is recalling fond memories of her and Allison’s time spent ‘together’ so to speak.
Oh the look on Cio’s face in panel 4! Apparently she has pleasant memories of outing with Allison.
I say, don’t you know
You say, you don’t know
I want you
To put me on
Yisun! I meant panel 6.
I do believe in miracles. Changing atoms is common. Changing the heart is special, noteworthy and has eternal consequences. White chain and the peace she was missing united at last. A true healing.
Not even angels can escape the inevitability of chaos slithering deep within the tiny cracks of their diamond souls. Change is inevitable.
*vibrates intensely*
Hoi! I’m Temmie.
For an angel, change is indeed enormous. It is also painful, very painful. And even we cannot become something new without losing something of what we once were.
I changed, once. Only once. It was… significant.
I am absolutely loving Cio’s face in the sixth panel. She looks like an absolute gremlin.
You ever have that friend who gets way too smug over the sex they have?
That’s Cio when Allison talks about their fusion.
This.
Her expression is that of the cat who ate the canary after dipping it in the stolen cream.
Which makes me wonder if 10 took a spot between them on purpose, just in case.
Not to mention how Alison is being embarrassed over how much she enjoyed the filthy deeds, then gramps escalating by deliberately blocking that middle seat to preempt any further hanky-panty :)=
I do not like this demon, Charlie. Its smug aura mocks me.
All I wanna do
Is see you turn into
A giant woman
A GIANT WOMAN
He cleans up good, doesn’t he?
But where’s his robe and comb?
He got all the dust blown out of him just the day before.
My favorite part of this is the implication that A&C are under guard but Vigilant Gaze just walked right past them and sat down anyway
He has a VIP pass? Also, he autographed their armour on the way in and now they love him forever.
The only person here who can possibly tell Vigilant Gaze “no” is fighting in the arena right now.
I mean, literally everybody saw what grandpa centaurangel can do if he gets serious.
Giant fuckoff beams buy you lots of leeway.
Ever see someone tell Saber she can’t go where she wants in the Fate series after seeing her beamfuck something to death?
Same principle here.
Recall: none of them moved during the exhibition of Solomon. By his word, all three have earned coin, prestige, and titles. Even if they are prisoners, they are also honored guests!
All four of Cio’s faces this page are gold
No she’s blue.

Yeah it’s… so good.
I really love horse grandpa
He’s actually a bull 😛
Being out really does make such a world of difference
I am amazed that a being as loud in every aspect and meaning of the word as 10 Vigilant Gaze was able to sneak up on anyone, but I suppose even angels must on occasion speak softly and only imply the major arse kicking that’s coming your way if you try and fight them.
Also Cio’s face when Allison says they were fused together is that of a being who was only that very moment deterred from describing it as “freaky fused fuck-fighting” and I love it
…and now I want you to narrate Cio’s mind for all future scenes.
Anyone else thinking “PRAISE THE SUN” every time 10 Vigilant Gaze speaks?
\[T]/ Praise Yi-Sun! \[T]/
Imagine having to battle for armrest space with a creature with four arms.
Allison’s and Cio’s “oh shit are we in trouble?” expressions are a flashback to the early books. I think VG’s superpower is making mortals feel like naughty children.
Spurs bite in, stepped on toys
Jingle Jangle, travelling noise.
Pull the string and hear him, boys.
Vigilant Gaze accepts that White Chain is “she”.
Ok, I’m an idiot. I’m only putting together the Jesus references in this book now. I noticed something was up before, but it’s this page that rung the bell. I wasn’t expecting White Chain to be a Jesus metaphor here, which is why I was slow on the uptake.

You know, we haven’t seen a teacup in a while now…
This is a world where everyone is literally Yisus having an argument with himself in Purgatory.
Anything is possible.
The trans allegory getting stronger again :3
Hm….I shall call him Vigilant Gaze for short.
10 Vigilant Gaze is such a sap and I love him. He gives off such Siegmeyer vibes
(and unlike Siegmeyer, he can kick some major ass!)
I suspect we’ve already seen what happens when a Demiurge cracks an angel’s shell. (2-6-112)
Man, having four arms would be so much fun. You could walk around all day doing a badass arm fold and still accomplish all your regular daily things, like making tea or giving people the finger.
And you would always be forewarned
Nice one. Thanks for not being explicit…
I like how Cio’s glasses straighten little by little each panel, but she never touches them.

The secret was trans rights all along
That look of incredulity from Cio when talking about their fusion is delicious.
Alison: “We were, like… fused into a big woman at the time.”
Cio: “Hell yeah we were! And in front of an entire stadium of strangers too!”
Yessss!
I love that he calls her “she”
I love that Cio was ready to dive into the ring for her
I love that Allison has faith in her
Yes, that it was CIO of all people who was ready to jump into the arena and help White Chain fight Solomon David (who could probably take on White Chain AND Allicio at the same time without breaking a sweat) is really amazing. Funny, I just realized it’s much easier to trust an angel who lies.
Because of the cracks in the armor, you see. You know they know the cost of lies, and they know speaking straight and in accordance with law can sometimes cost even more.
One does try never to disturb people when walking up and down stairs.
That’s one vigilant looking gaze in the last panel.
I love angel grandpa
10 Vigilant Gaze seems like a cool dude.
Though it may seem impolite, the truth is that Vigilant Gaze did indeed wish to say “hello.” Unfortunately, as angels are quite set in their ways, and he had been doing it for several ages now, Viligant Gaze is unable to utter any greeting other than “ho there.”
Comment on the mouseover text:
“Angels, despite their size and their armored shell being extremely heavy, can move incredibly quietly when they need to. This incredible agility was purportedly granted to them by the god Koss in order to better apprehend evildoers, but angels most often use it to try and not disturb people when walking up and down stairs and on wood floors.”
This sounds like it came directly from Douglas Adams – a superpower granted by the gods to do mundane, but characteristic, things.
He didn’t say “HO THERE!” this time.
10 Vigilant Gaze is my absolute favorite. Every panel he is in is an absolute treasure.
He met these two brave warriors in honorable combat and found them worthy of his time and praise, he’s not going to compare them to ladies of negotiable virtue
I love Cio’s expression when Alison says that that just screams “Yeah, it was so hot!”
I like this old steampunk guy.
I can’t be afraid of this guy. If I did something and he comes from me, I deserved it.
To me, 10 Vigilant Gaze has just either broken our girls’ seats or blocked them entirely upon sitting down. Also, his finger tapping against his forehead sounds like an empty flowerpot. These are all lies, of course, but they are also truths to me.
Angels were made to protect creation from demons. Now that demons walk among the denizens of Throne, so should the angels.
The Angel were not created to protect the other Inheritors from each other.
We created to protect the Multiplicity from the Inheritors.
10 Vigilant Gaze! I love this guy. I did not expect him to show up and provide some perspective. What a treat! White Chain may not be as much a goner as I feared.

Didn’t the Archangel Gabriel use the term “Old Soul” in the movie “The Prophecy” when referring to another angel?
I like how in the 6th panel, Allison’s expression is all like “Yeah… it was weird.”
and Cio just has that look of “Yeah, we ‘fused’ alright.”
The irony, of course, is that this is the single angel most famous for saying hello.
Allison doesn’t know that though.
Her scars. They get fainter.
For particularly powerful individuals, the body is a plaything of the mind.
It seems the Elder Angel comes to bolster spirits and bring wisdom to our heroes. He also looks like a jolly metal crab with a cool eye.
I like him. I hope he stays for a time.

Now I really want to see Vigilant Gaze replace Solomon as (Grand)Paternum. Wonder if the Rayubans would go for that?
Meet the new God-emperor, same as the old God-emperor. Sign here please.
If White Chain draws blood then I suppose her wish could be to make Vigilant Gaze emperor. But I wonder if he would accept the position.
Glory to the New Flesh!
I AM COMPLETE
–Beelzeboss
We’d do well to remember that White Chain need not *BEAT* Solomon.
She need only draw blood, if I remember correctly. And, well, her shell is made of a rather hard substance that might hold an edge if broken…
I feel it in my bones still that she’ll win by exploiting her own failures, that her very weapon will BE her weakness.
(I am, admittedly, drawing on the knowledge and expertise of renowned Murine philosopher Dangerous Beans.)
…..Anyone else imagining 10 vigilant gaze to sound like a knight of Katerina?
If a Knight of Katerina sounds like Beau Billingslea, then yes.
I can’t be the only one who imagines Vigilant Gaze speaking with the Bane voice, right?
You know the one.
Cio’s “I’m a little shit” face is adorable.
Nevermind, it’s in the Wiki. Durrrr….
No, that was his brother, Vigilant Gays Purges His Wardrobe of Last Year’s Fashions
Gods I do love this big old angel. He’s got good body language.
And good speaking language too.
he’s hot
Yoooooooooooo does any one know when the next book chapter will be released or any info is it discontinued etc
My shame for doubting 10 Vigilant Gaze is only matched by my admiration for his perspicacity.
I really like this guy’s design. I think it’s my favorite (though I like Cio and her fashion sense very much)
