“Total victory is not found in the final sword blow. To perfect victory you cannot continue to spill the blood of a fallen foe, which only shows your insecurities to your many enemies. Instead, you must nurse your foe back to health, dress, and feed him, but not so much that he regains his strength. You must take away every aspect of him which originally seemed fierce and indestructible. In every aspect you must diminish and crush his spirit with affection, all the while maintaining your grip on his sword arm. In this way, kindness is the greatest cruelty.”
Au Vam. Wasn’t that the guy who had people who wanted to join his personal guard whipped for two hours and then disqualified anyone who managed to keep from screaming during the ordeal? Frankly, he sounds like a real piece of work.
Well Jadis did get to her, at this point she’s looking for reasons to be lazy, since, if it doesn’t matter, she may aswell do help Zaid because it matters to him.
But once more she proves she’s a selfish california girl
Fuck you. She lost an eye, an arm, a leg, and her lover all in the same day before being put into a coma for month. Leave her the fuck alone you sexist asshole. She is not a “selfish California girl” she is a grown woman who has been through a hell you can not even begin to understand.
Bro we’ve all been reading the comic, we know exactly what shes been through. and let’s be real Allison has been really wishy washy about her motives. Even here she’s flip flopping around. Fact remains that she could have at least given the key to someone else who would fight, instead of just being afk with the with it for 3 years. It’s fine to give up, but at least try not to fuck everybody else over when you do.
It’s interesting to me you see that as a sexist comment. If Alison was instead a dude he could easily say something like “selfish california bro”, and it would be absurd to me if somebody said the comment was sexist.
Personally I was reflecting on how if Alison was instead a male character, I’d be inclined towards feeling contempt for him in these panels, whereas with Alison as a woman I am far more sympathetic.
I interpret that as either meaning I’m sexist towards men, seeing them as (relatively) expendable and/or not as worthy of sympathy unless they perform some expected gendered duty, OR as sexist towards women by assuming they can not be expected to endure and face up to the same hardships as men in war. (Kind of like saying: “I’d expect a grown man to suck it up and sacrifice himself if it meant saving the world, but I can’t expect that of a grown woman.”)
I can’t speak for your’s or 6 Molerats’ internal motivations and predispositions, but I definitely feel like either or neither of you can be interpreted as the sexist ones in this exchange, and I’d sooner say neither.
I think Molerats is probably judging too harshly myself regardless of gender, but I do respectfully strongly disagree with the assertion that their comment is sexist.
Not for the first time I find myself wondering if Alison has anybody left on Earth. We’ve NEVER seen her wonder how her family is doing, how they are coping with the fact that she suddenly disappeared and never came back and whether they miss her. She herself doesn’t seem to miss anybody from back home. And now the idea that the multiverse and everybody in it will be desroyed doesn’t bother her. Either she was all alone, or her and her family were serilusly estranged from each other, or, and this seems least likely considering what we have learned about her character over the course of the story, she simply doesn’t give a flying f*ck about her family.
Back in Book 3 (SoT 11-150), she stated emphatically that she could not go home, despite still having parents to go home too. That always seemed odd to me, like a self-imposed harm. But perhaps she just meant “not until Zaid is rescued”.
Nyave said that she could never go home either. It’s not that she physically can’t, it would just be too awkward. Her understanding has changed too much. Her home would be alien to her, and she would be too alien to her family. So while it may be a “self-imposed harm”, it’s a choice made in the pursuit of avoiding other harm.
There is the third choice. One even the gods think of with trepidation and acceptance of the inevitability of their only real choice. We don’t break the wheel, the wheel does not break us. We become the force that keeps the wheel turning, unbroken. Greasing the axle of existence with our crushed fear, hopes and such.
Well that’s the choice for mere mortals and gods. Me, I’m going to have another quad espresso and get some mundane things done that amuse me. Feeding alpacas and goats. Scratching a dog, enjoy a snowstorm. Contemplate ending another civilization.
Fuck you Zaid, you’re not the one who lost two limbs, an eye, and your lover in the same day then spent months in a coma. She has every right not to get sucked back into this insanity of endless violence.
If Zaid becomes the chosen one, but being the chosen one means nothing, then Allison would have done well simply to escape to Earth and live out her life while waiting for Jaggonoth, who could take eons.
I discovered the post to be quite interesting, despite the fact that it took some time to read all of the comments. I, as well as the other commenters, found it to be very helpful!
A woman treads along on a well-worn path. She discarded the sword, the bringer of cutting, long ago. Such toys are no longer needed, for the time for cutting has passed. Her only hand is empty.
Behind her lies Heaven, full of all manner of life and wonder. In front of her, in the distance, there is only Oblivion—The Ending of the All. She hums a scrap of a tune, long forgotten.
Her steps are confident, her heart light without the burden of the sword, the bringer of cutting.
Oblivion draws near, and she walks ever forward. Her hand—that once wielded the sword, bringer of cutting, now empty—reaches out to her side and grasps that of another. She squeezes tight.
The two women tread along on a well-worn path. They discarded their swords, the bringers of cutting, long ago. Such toys are no longer needed, for the time for cutting has passed. Their only hands are no longer empty.
Behind them lays Hell, full of all manner of life and wonder. In front of them, much closer, lies Oblivion—The Beginning of the New. They hum a tune, now remembered.
Their steps are confident, their hearts light with the solace of love, the bringer of mending.
Ok, my theory: They’re going to travel back in time to the moment Cio stabbed Incubus and yelled: “Now, Alison!” and this time she’ll not be shell-shocked anymore and kill him. Meanwhile, the time travel process will accidentally send Zaid back to some distant world in the past where he’ll become Zoss.
Explains why we saw badass Alison on the cover of this book with all those scars. Also explains how Zaid could be Zoss.
Fuck Zaid, Alice is right. She lost an arm, a leg, an eye, and her lover all in the same day before being put in a coma for months. How much more do you want from her? Because again she is right, even if you do beat the big bad, the violence won’t end. So leave her alone and let her heal.
Holy shit you are triggered by this. You forget about how jagganoth, the guy who’s singular goal is to kill everybody and burn everything, is going to return any day now, and she has the only thing that can stop him lodged in her forehead? And for real, she isn’t “healing”, look at her. She gave up and gave in, that’s not healing. And she knows it.
zaid looks so zamn cool here
Yikes. Allison is giving up and tellin Zaid he was the Chosen one. Is Yadis kinda “fixing” her prophecy here?

That does indeed sound like what Jadis has done to Alison.

Yes, you’re right. She even cried about it then. I had completely forgotten that bit; perhaps it’s time for another K6BD reading binge.

It appears Zaid has become aware of the principle act of cutting.
how truly foolish oh successor
have ye become as jaded as the former bear of the word mind?
What bear might that be Preem Angel?
Remember you are blazing!
Still your heart is blazing!
Going to be so salty if he ends up being the “chosen one” after all.
looks like Al Yis Un forgot that the way you reach heaven is through violence
In fairness. Breaking the wheel isn’t reaching heaven, Moksha shouldn’t be.

How appropriate for Lucifer to be the one mad at the guy who wants to prevent the entire universe’s destruction.

Virgin Allison : *Just kill me already*
Chad Zaid: “All we can do is move forward”
Getting to be draining reading this nihilistic version of Al-Yis-Un. Holding out that there’s some form of epiphany breakthrough soon.
I discovered the post to be quite interesting, despite the fact that it took some time to read all of the comments. I, as well as the other commenters, found it to be very helpful!
Much has been made of the resemblance between Zaid and Zoss.
Of more immediate concern though is the similarity between Alison and Jadis here.
Wonder what Incubus is up to right now…

I wonder if Zaid is actually Zoss
He said “fuck” … that’s what was interrupted in the first scene and it remains heavy upon his mind.

“Keep moving forward.” Is Zaid’s last name Robinson, per chance? In the line of Cornelius?
Or maybe back on Earth he was just a huge Disney stan.
