Wielder of Names 2-32
Chapter: 2
Camilla: You sir, should unmask.
Stranger: Indeed?
Cassilda: Indeed it’s time. We have all laid aside disguise but you.
Stranger: I wear no mask.
Camilla: (Terrified, aside to Cassilda.) No mask? No mask!
– The King in Yellow, Act 1, Scene 2d
Sérieusement ?
It’s a bit like the Carnival of Basel, only with more teeth. 🙂
What a perfect quote. We see that Angels and Devils in their unbound state are indeed very similar, at least in terror if not complete aesthetic.
It is no surprise, as Black and Hot is the same as White and Cold. Even in regard of flames.
So awesome O_O …more singing I hope :3
This enemy design seriously reminds me of Bloodborne.
Magister Usagi saves Alison. In the technical sense of the word this would make Magister Usagi a Yojimbo. I see what you did there Abbadon.
And he shall be masked, and his name shall be… Saur Lusre.
*Attempts best small, significant hand movement, and hopes she is smiling in the correct Way*
Kia Ora to all.
I am the one known as Reo. I hark from the Land of the Long White Cloud. Today I reach the most recent place of our journey, after having been sent here one week ago by hest of the great one known as Der-Shing of The Derelict and Sword Interval. I came to seek Art and Truth, and I have found it in such greatness I could not help but bring others to gaze upon it. Indeed, that being did a great thing to send me here.
I do also wonder if the artist is one I have encountered before. Once, long ago, I was a visitor to the plain of existence known as the Spamusement Forums. There was an artist there known as Null. Could they be one and the same?
Though Allison could act with resentment, I’ve been thinking that if she is to earn the favor of numerous devils here, she would likely do so by offering an unexpectidely reasonable deal, one made partly due to being unfamiliar with convention. Stealing a mask only to give it with none of the conditions of servitutde that I suspect often come as part of being bound would certainly qualify.
A devil unbound is a terrible thing indeed, yet the presence of one here may fortuitous. It presents an opportunity, for us to observe, and Allison to learn, the nature of the Perceivers. To name something is to define it, and hold mastery over it, and it is in the nature of the Perceiver to seek dominion. Dominion over land, dominion over animal, dominion over inheritor, dominion over heaven. Truly the Perceivers are the children of Aesma, for no greater want can be found among the Inheritors than the Want of Dominion that is found within the very being of the Perceivers, even if they do not know it themselves.
One must wonder though. To name something is to define it, to shackle it, to limit it, as evidenced by the desire for devils to escape all names but one. When Vladok refused his deal, he acted contrary to the very definition of a bound and masked devil, and thus ceased to be one. Can the opposite be possible as well? Put another way, creation is the great lie of Yisun’s, and every aspect of creation a subsequent lie. Could it be, however, that if a lie uttered often enough so as to become inseparable from creation, in as much as creation is firmly defined by that lie, that lie then becomes something akin to truth? Yet if that is true, what becomes of Yisun?
The only Truth is primal Fire. To lie so frequently that the lie defines a part of creation is merely to lie convincingly to god. A feat nonetheless, but such a thing appearing to be true from within creation (the greatest lie) does not make it a truth.
Such is the nature of the Art.

For those who might be wondering, the quote is from Thom Ryng’s rendition of the play “The King in Yellow”. Very cool to see it referenced here.
