Wielder of Names 2-32
Chapter: 2
Camilla: You sir, should unmask.
Stranger: Indeed?
Cassilda: Indeed it’s time. We have all laid aside disguise but you.
Stranger: I wear no mask.
Camilla: (Terrified, aside to Cassilda.) No mask? No mask!
– The King in Yellow, Act 1, Scene 2d
Just put a mask on it. It’ll be fine.
Put a mask on it!
When things are troubling, or ugly, or uncertain, a mask is often an excellent idea. whether on yourself, another, or reality, is rather dependent on the nature of the troubles, but making a problem look different often has a way of making it less problematic, if only in our own heads.
What, she just found the fuckin’ thing on the ground? Where the hell did that come from.
Actually, it was laying on a table several pages back.
The three warlocks had it. They seemed to be negotiating a bargain with one of the devils, and the mask was part of the negotiation.
Well that is interesting. She is going to put a new mask on him on instinct.
Name it Usagi, name it!
Yes!
A dumb name too, like.. Butternips. Except with a bunch more names.
Rebinding time!
Does that mean Alice is going to get to give gramps here a new name? Any bets it will be Sailor Moon related?
This fool will soil our codpiece in mirth if the little tyrant were to proclaim this renegade devil Luna. For one can barely imagine what shape a former ebon color take after having been subjugated and given a name associated with and inspired by a cat familiar.
And he was named “Horrid Little Man.”
So say Alice-Un.
…I just realized “Allison” can be pronounced very similarly to “All YISUN,” and now my head hurts.
Alice-Yisun.
A human, born of his most beloved awful students awful mistake. One who knows both of destruction, nihilisim, and nothingness.
We realised this about a dozen strips ago, and we’re still shaking our fists and screaming about it. Welcome to Knowing Too Much.
AL-YS-UN
C’mon, grab your fiends!
We call forth many awful things~
With HASMEERA THE UNDYING ZEDALIZED and Finn the Human!
The horror never ends! Rebinding Time!
Metal page.
Didn’t expect these to be the three to save Alison’s ass, either.
It makes sense when you think about it. They want to trick and cheat mortals by playing the game; former-Vladok wants to knock over the table and stab everyone. All else aside, letting him do that is bad for business.
At this point it guess it’s pretty much self-defence for them: unbound demon, unbound rampage; better stop it before it thrashes you and everything else in the neighbourhood.
Well, that’s certainly one possible solution.
There’s something oddly cute about Allison crying while charging towards a nameless monstrosity with the intent to smack a mask back into it.
It’s a completely terrible idea, so of course, it’ll succeed.
Where’d she find that? O-O;
The trio of binders were offering it to a scarred red devil when Allison first entered the void.
That’s the same mask those three were trying to offer to some other devil (the guy with the cracked mask) earlier.
OMG Is she going to mask a faceless devil like only the first King did ?
While that does seem to be her plan, the three magisters here imply that this is a thing they themselves could do on a lesser devil, so perhaps it is not too unusual.
What will be unusual is when Allison succeeds.
That’s the mask those humans were offering that other devil near when Allison first appeared in the area!
The 3 Magisters had a mask to bind a smaller demon, before they encountered Magister Usagi…. I totally forgot that too. Hopefully the new mask is meant in a symbolic way. Cant imagine Non-Vladok with that silly face….
Young Alice un it is finally time to see wether that old fossil was right in naming you or if you will just be another cosmic plaything in the grand scheme of things.
Who says the two are mutually exclusive? Be it the Ant or the Giant, the difference is in semantics.
Not to say there is no power in semantics, but the point remains.
“I thought, too, of The King in Yellow wrapt in the fantastic colors of his tattered mantle, and that bitter cry of Cassilda, ‘Not upon us, oh King, not upon us!’ Feverishly I struggled to put it from me, but I saw the lake of Hali, thin and blank, without a ripple of wind to stir it, and I saw the towers of Carcosa behind the moon. Aldebaran, The Hyades, Alar, Hastur, glided through the cloud rifts which fluttered and flapped as they passed like the scalloped tatters of The King in Yellow.”
Vladok’s gonna look so cute in his brand spanking new mask ^^
In the tongue of Devils, the words we know as “oath”, “honour”, and “life” are the same and merely take separate meanings from their neighbors. So think upon the significance of the phrase ‘My oath is my honour, and my honour is my life.’ to such a kindred.
Smother the flame till it smolders dimly. Smother it with a name and a face.
So much trouble, so much trouble.
Unbound UPSET, Understand?! Unknowable ugliness is unfriendly, unfriendly.
Magisters match maskless with monster, mobilize to maim.
Meanwhile Fangless(fickle?) female filches face for formless failure.
Future: Success shocks sinful swarm. Serendipity so…so…slippery.
“You’re new name shall be…Phil.”
A YOUNG DEMON STANDS BEFORE YOU. THOUGH IT WAS MANY AGES AGO HE WAS FORMED, IT IS ONLY TODAY HE WILL BE GIVEN A NAME.
>Zoosmell Pooplord
AN OLD DEMON STANDS BEFORE YOU. THOUGH IT WAS MANY AGES AGO HE WAS GIVEN LIFE, IT IS ONLY TODAY HE WILL BE GIVEN A NAME.
>Zoosmell Pooplord.
I am myself still partial to “Lightweight”.
Vladok’s new form is on the cover. CAW!
I really like the Magisters. Can we keep them? Cio did say she needed a mentor… three for the price of one?
Ah yes, the “Shove a Mask in its Face” school of devil binding, founded by Magister Nahtu Bryte and her apprentice, Davel Atem. Unfortunately, the pair mysteriously vanished before they were able to perfect the technique. No one is quite sure what happened to them, but many have their theories. We can only hope Allison has better luck.
Anyway, she has some hammer to do the shoving, methink.
And so shall Alice-UN bind the former Vladok and name him with multiple names, fourfold tying him into himself.
Tuc, for honour.
Si, for oath.
Do, for life.
And Mask, because you can never be too on the nose.
