2nd Phase Dark Souls Boss mode activate!
You’re thinking of “Bloodborne.”
In the most literal sense.
Ah ! I knew it ! The head of john is still as OP as it seem ! The only way to kill that bastard is to break his diamonds or to bury his head for like 60 days
Well, Shit
Also that’s the smuggest expression in the universe. I really hope somebody knocks it off his face next up
although I’m not sure it’ll be Maya. maybe.
AND IT WILL COME
LIKE A FLOOD OF RAIN
POURING DOWN ON ME
AND IT WILL NOT LET UP UNTIL THE END IS NEAR
yep. this is very true
NOOOO!!!! her beads!
Stop, you’re making him stronger!
Why do I feel like Inc could’ve killed Maya already over one hundred times, but is stalling due to their past relationship?
These fight panel POVs are absolutely sick.
Maybe Maya could have as well. Many of the comments on swordsmanship throughout the comic have talked about how the best sword attack is a single stroke that ends it before the opponent even realizes. And yet neither has gone for that.
She has done that before, on their last fight. It didn’t work, because she is weak and insane and puts too much stock in the words of a crazy old murderer who lived in a barrel.
The sheer coping I keep seeing from these comments is beyond pathetic. Royalty must be a continuous coping motion.
Drinkubus?
Applying Blood Alchemy upon one’s own body is among the least interesting use cases for it…
I liked applying it to cool rocks, but the League of Paleontologists banned me from their dig sites. đ
Ever tried cooling down the rocks, literally? Fascinating things happen when they’re cooled to nearly absolute zero degrees.
I hope this beautiful creature lives past the end of the world
Ha ha, funny.
What?
Throw a styptic pencil at him!
Iâm not sure what Maya expects with saying Incubus is âno rulerâ. I mean, he never claimed to be one â âWe break. We kill. We conquer. Imagine, if you will, actually trying to ruleâ doesnât sound like someone trying to be a ruler.
(Looking for that quote also reminds me, his quote about how âitâs only about winningâ was in response to Allison saying that all she wanted to do was survive. If he doesnât respect survival as a form of winning, then what IS his goal? Itâs apparently not just a scavengerâs mentality)
In any case, this scene reminds me of White Chainâs reaction to the start of the fight with Jagganoth, back on Rayuba â thinking he was on an entirely different league than the other Demiurges because of the fact that, while vulnerable to harm, he was completely unresponsive to pain.
IncubusâŚseems to enjoy the pain heâs in, judging by that smile â but either way, is unbothered by it. Even though heâs suffered more extreme harm than Jagganoth was facing.
(The same would be true for when he lost all his skin in that battle)
I guess thatâs not surprising. Blood alchemy sounds painful to use already, and weâve seen him do things like seemingly amplifying his heartbeat with it, so he must be used to putting a huge strain on himself, being in intense pain â still, being able to make a comparison like that isnât promising for Maya, here.
I mean, who even *is* a ruler.
All the ones I’ve seen haven’t exactly impressed.
Yes, that is so close to the point. Now look at yourself.
Incubus himself implied that the only Demiurge to genuinely be trying to rule, was Solomon David, who, to his credit, did seem to honestly care about that. The one time he actually looked scared was when he was faced with the fact that, no matter how controlling his laws were, he wasnât able to protect everyone â and thatâs when he burnt off much of his remaining lifeforce to seal away Jagganoth.
Albeit, his fear â his trauma from when Rayuba had died out before â made him excessively cautious, to the extent of repressing his people.
And the tournament, which could be seen either as an attempt at finding a worthy heir so he could abdicate (I think he honestly believed thatâs why he had the tournament, given his hope âthat men like me need not existâ, and telling Zaid that he wanted to abdicate to focus on realising Royalty), or as a way to crush any dissent (in truth, he was too afraid of Rayuba falling back into ruin under any other ruler to be willing to give up the throne, until Jagganoth proved that he couldnât protect everyone)âŚ
Well, the result was the same â killing off most of the capable warriors who couldâve protected the evacuating citizens from being collateral damage.
Going back to the apparent mockery in above quote âimagine, if you will, actually trying to ruleâ, I reckon Incubus recognised the flaws in Solomonâs reign (and the fragility â he gave up on ruling as soon as he realised he was imperfect), well enough to know that it wasnât going to work out as Solomon had hoped. That Solomon had no chance of âwinningâ. (His own win condition being to ensure Rayubaâs survival)
â
Then thereâs Zoss.
I donât think we know as much about his reign as the events before and after it, so I wonât focus much on that, but we know Incubusâ perspective on him, to which he admitted âI cannot dispute itâ.
That is, that Zoss was âa traitor king that abandoned his kingdomâ, and âfor all your majesty, all your power, your heaven is rotten, old manâ.
Thatâs one of the scenes where Incubus seemed angriest, actually â enough to push through his fear of Zoss and insult him to his face. Just as heâs angry at Maya for what he perceives as abandoning both him and her reign.
I imagine heâd see Solomon in a similarly negative light for abdicating, that he hates when people abandon their power (or in Zossâ case, the responsibilities that come with it) â and looking at the state of the universe since Zoss let go of rulership (at how rotten heaven became?), I canât exactly blame Incubus for feeling that way.
So on the contrary, he probably believes that continuing to hold on to power â âclingingâ, as Meti would describe it â is more respectable. (Another reason Maya sees him as âexceptionally poorâ?) And in his eyes, power isnât something to run away from.
Which is all consistent with him chastising Allison because âyou are afraid of powerâ, and teaching her âyou are the master [over your power]! There is nothing to fear!â. All throughout training her (which Maya acknowledged as genuine), in fact, he emphasised mastering her power â not being controlled by it (âYou must break power, and make it yours. Or it will break youâ), and not running away from it.
â
So, if Incubus sees a true ruler as one who holds on to power, without being controlled by (or obsessed with?) it, and without letting go of (or running away from) itâŚ
Maya, Zoss, and Solomon all gave up power. Mottom tried to give up her power. Mammon and Jadis gave up on exercising their power. Jagganoth intends to die. Gog-Agog lost interest in power and everything else from the belief that she couldnât have enough power to defeat Metatron and break the cyclesâŚbut Allison got her out of that mindset. Even then, she seems more interested in consuming than ruling, right now.
And Incubus doesnât seem to count himself as a ruler.
That could still leave Allison, at least? And Au Vam sounds like he was very respected!
I think Incubus wants to follow someone who knew what they were doing.
He loses his family and throws himself on apprenticing to the sword as his one way through. Then he follows Maya. But he’s loyal enough to Meti to obey her command to feed her to dogs. Then his power is giving other people whatever they want, only for them to break under it.
Incubus is a particular kind of terrible swordsman because he doesn’t want to be royalty in the first place.
It might be a comment on how he’s never really been the one running things. He has his plans, but they always revolve around the actions of others, Jag or Maya. He’s perfectly content to follow if he still gets what he wants and that is not necessarily the actions of a King as this world sees it. His wants revolve so much around others.
It might also just be to jab at him because he’s always been touchy about the fact that he’s not seen as having “earned” his title like the rest of the Seven, only picking it up because Maya left. He might not care to “rule” his seventh of creation like the rest but he is still technically its ruler. But he’s not seen as deserving it by many and that’s always bugged him
“Tzimin arts” I feel like thats a reference to vampire the masquerade
Arms of blood, swords of gore. Maya don’t live here no more?
Well now that Incubus pulled some bullshit I kinda expect Maya to pull some counterbullshit herself.
She’s fine, she can do that too, probably.
Monstrosity, Incubus has proven himself passably deserving of the title demiurge.
Maya, maybe the true power of the Maybe Sword isn’t in the cutting, but in the chosing? Simply choose not to be cut, and Incubus will be unable to inflict harm upon you!
It should be noted here that I am not a warrior and my declarations should not be taken as martial advice.
The man is definitely showing the virtues of quitting the blade and setting up a noodle shop that takes up a measurable percentage of the sum of all universes. He brought game and I very much appreciate the vibe of murdering people with your own wounds. Now if only he wasn’t a shortsighted twit who decided to sell those universes for a few decades of bitches and blow… assuming Jaggy doesn’t just pop him like a zit seconds after getting out.
You ain’t nothin’ but a lap dog
just barking all the time
“Bueno”
Yup. Too many cuts to kill him. As expected.
When he dies, if he dies to Maya, it’ll be to a single slice and pure killing intent. A single perfect motion.
Hell yeah, body horror!
That man is BONELESS.
HAHA!! I KNEW Incubus would prevail!!
Victory wine as the closing line is such a gut punch â this chapter keeps framing scripture and slaughter side by side, and the alchemy-manual page layout reads like a ritual. Long-time reader side note: I build AI image tools for a living (image-to-image-ai.app), and pages like this are exactly why hand-drawn craft still wins.
