The edge dances between existence and non-existence. Vanishing point. All lines meet up, eventually. He who dances on the thread of maybe, finds that the string doesn’t sound. Harmonics of the eleventh degree.
Artifact. Any time your opponent plays a God Creature while the Maybe Sword is in play, flip a coin. On heads, take the God Creature from your opponent by force and cut it in half with scissors and cast the halves into a pit and bury them.
So what is the difference, if any, between the Maybe Sword and the “terrible Blade of Want” mentioned in The Prophecy of the Successor? Are they the same thing? I thought Aesma also used a Blade of Want?
As for the the blade of Want:
Recall the phrase “Royalty is a continuous cutting motion.” The blade of Want is with what this cut is made; it is the will of Royalty inflicted upon the universe.
As for the maybe sword:
Meti says in her sword manual, “to cut properly, you must continually self-annihilate when cutting. Your hand must become a hand that is cutting, your body a body that is cutting, your mind, a mind that is cutting.”
This is not the same as killing. One must let go of the result of cutting in order to Cut, and so all results, including killing, are ‘maybe’.
She continues, “A man who strikes without thought of his action can cut God.”
As for the difference:
I do not believe there is a difference, but I am also not Royalty.
maybe whoever decapitated lord maya was happier to decapitate him than he was sad to be decapitated. maybe the total happiness in the world increased. so whatever
To truly master the sword, the practitioner must give up intent to kill. Killing is merely a result of Cutting.
“[…]You must also not cling to your action, or its result.[…] A man who strikes without thought of his action can cut God.” – Meti Ten Ryo, Meti’s Sword Manual, precept 5
Will it kill?
Maybe: but this is the wrong question.
It is not the sword that cuts, but the wielder that cuts. It is the wielder’s will to cut that cuts. So long as their will cuts unwavering, it matters not what blade is held.
I know it’s played out but…
NNNAANNIII???

👍
What is an edge, but a convergence of planes? What is maybe, but a convergence of probabilities?
There is no such thing as a sword.
“Go unarmed into his den with these words of power: AE GHARTOK PADHOME [CHIM] AE ALTADOON. Or do not.” –Sermon Fifteen
Devoured all of the series in a storm, and such a pleasure it has been. Now the sudden wall of waiting for more.
My thanks to the gracious host/storyteller.
Guys I just noticed this webcomic is a tiny violent
no, it’s a LOT violent.
It’s a tiny bit violent a LOT of the time.
Reach Tiny Heaven Through Tiny Violence.
It appears she, as the warriors of my homeland would say, “got his ass.”
One such remark I heard on my travels – he “fucked around and found out”
Indeed, the events call to mind an adage of my people: “RIP Bozo.”
As I walked in the Red God’s lair
I took a sword that wasn’t there
Maybe it’s there anyway
Maybe I can nothing slay
Won’t you take my blade of will?
Unseen edge, honed to kill.
Maybe death waits in your foe
Maybe there’s nothing to show
The Maybe Sword: Every time to face an enemy in the ‘God’ Category, flip a coin…
Artifact. Any time your opponent plays a God Creature while the Maybe Sword is in play, flip a coin. On heads, take the God Creature from your opponent by force and cut it in half with scissors and cast the halves into a pit and bury them.
Make it a 90 or above an a D100.
The chances are very small… but the artifact cannot be destroyed, and the gods cannot multiply.
Given enough time, all maybes become certainties.
Shame
Good for her.
Is it like the Possible Sword from The Scar?
I just realised she makes two unbroken swings.
Royalty is a continuous cutting motion.
by far the most satisfying kill in the comic. i cannot describe how much i hated this guy after only 2 pages of lookin at him
Both the height of mastery and lazy decadence. That antithesis is to be hated.
My headcanon is that Maya’s “Peasant Heart” made the maybe sword the sharpest fucking thing ever by the power of COMMUNISM.
TIME TO LIBERATE THE WHEEL COMRADES, FORWARD, TOPPLE THE DEMIURGES AND COLLECTIVIZE THE GUILDS
A technique only used to stack bodies indeed.
Zoss: “I’m going to the one place still untouched by capitalism. THRONE!”

Shouldn’t have laughed at someone’s suffering.

Is anyone else seeing the sleeping angels awaiting reincarnation thing from wayyyyy back in these statues?
Now that you mention it..
Why is he laughing? Did he just remember a really funny scene from the Simpsons?
Will it kill?

“Hey what’s the boss laughing at?”
All the apprentices turn to see their last.
“so its trash?”
“absolute garbage. worst sword ever.”
Mana’s apprentice makes “Worst Sword Ever”; asked to leave forge

Or Maybe it’s the sword. I mean, how would you know?
It was a scrap of metal. An unparalleled instrument of cutting. Fit only to kill and maim. An exceptionally poor sword.
A sword prone to shattering will likely injure its wielder when used. In this way, it is finer than most swords.
