WHEEL SMASHING LORD 1-11 to 1-12
Chapter: 1
“Listen, closely, pale worm. Our only goal here, and indeed, for the rest of your miserable life, is to learn the cut called Quelling the Breath of Man. It is the most superior sword technique in the Seven Cities and will win you every battle if done properly. You must resolutely study this cut. Your life, as mine, is no longer your own. You have now become a blade, and the hearts-hilt of this blade is held by his Grace, and when he swings it you will kill any number of men that he wills dead.”
– Gälde ten Bilong, sword god of the Lunar Kingdoms, to their student Ryam
Wherein AL-YI-SUN rolls a nat 20 to persuade.
NAT is dangerous, she should puta it on a DMZ.
*sporfle*
Now I am somehow very hungry for for a big bowl of noodles, with many nutritional ingredients and some fresh basil.
Called it
Best joke in the whole comic, hands down ^^
The king’s old things
The Auntie folded quickly … this was a surprise.
I mean, she simply stated that before being asked it would not be taught, she never said anything about after being asked.
Ah I see, Maya requires that her students ask to be taught. She will not teach them before they ask!
Think it was also forcing Alison to – in asking – do three things:
-A) Explain she understands the costs and risks of wielding the accursed thing, and that Maya doesn’t *want* to teach her how to use it.
-B) Explain her *reason* for asking in spite of that.
-C) Use the magic word, “Please”.
“Be polite. Be efficient. And have a plan to kill everyone you meet.”
It also shows she accepts it *is* a horrible thing, even if it must be wielded.
She didn’t deny or brush past the inherent bad. It’s an evil, and it should not be trusted to someone who can’t acknowledge it is.
On Throne, this is the equivalent of a karmic liability waiver.
I can’t help but feel that, this too, is the wrong question. Well, she doesn’t ask it as a question. There is no question mark in the final panel. Still, if the Sword of Maybe could solve the problem Maya would have already solved it; surely. She had a key and walked away, her weapon can’t be the answer.
I think it’s because Maya doesn’t want to save the world, or at least, not the WANT that is necessary to succeed. Still, she recognizes that Allison does, and the maybe sword is either a step necessary to succeed, or the final proof that something else is needed.
*shing*
‘Huh… is that… OH SHIT, ok sorry I insulted you earlier.’
Before you ask doesn’t cover after you ask.
Gälde ten Bilong was a poor master. Each cut must be singular. Consider, if you master only one cut, them all the enemy has to do is survive one attack. Don’t matter how many times he has to do it, it is only one cut.
You must never make multiple attacks, a battle is a never ending cutting motion. There is no single cut, there is a constant river of death.
There is no cut to be mastered, for one should not cut at all. When one’s opposition anticipates the cut, they prepare for a thing that does not exist. They cannot counter or parry or dodge the No-Cut.
The No-Cut is infinite and encompasses all possibility; it transcends the existence of any number of cuts, and thus has infinite power.
mmm i want ramen with egg. i want cursed sword.
If you could only have one or the other, which would you choose?
… ramen with egg.
with a cursed sword i could cut from the world all the ramen with egg i want but it is liable to taste of iron.
You egg?!
i want to slice old gods corpses…
Slice open the Gods and use their guts as Ramen!
you’re not me! you’re not me!
Well that was easy.
Alison is so lucky getting so many new ce gifts from auntie!
Is the pipe a reference to Hansa’s? If it is, it is it supposed to call to mind the circular dying thing or the achieving royalty by not trying so hard?
As much as the sword is just a crude instrument to separate men from their internal fluids, a pipe is just an instrument. One used to remind someone of their self-inflicted cycles and their resamblences to both Hansa and Zoss, maybe, an crude instrument nonetheless.
Well, Hansa did know that his pipe was instrumental in his eventual demise, so yeah, you can say that the pipe is the reminder of what being Royalty is: knowing your fate and striding onwards in spite of it.
I present to all of you gathered here the sorrow of the self perception of our dear Maya in the form of a syllogism:
The Heartsblood blade is all Maya is as a person.
It is an awful cursed weapon.
Therefore: Maya is an awful cursed weapon.
I’m going to guess it goes the other way as well – the Heartsblood blade is an awful cursed weapon because Maya is an awful cursed weapon. If it’s called “the Heartsblood blade,” it’s probably a weapon defined by your heart in some way.
It is the concentrated hate that has kept Maya alive these last few centuries. If she passes it to Allison, then Maya may fade away.
Also, Maya hates Incublunderbus, but Allison is aiming herself at Jaggy. Perhaps Maya hopes that Allison will take out Inky in passing.
stop it i can only be so gay for Maya
while i appreciate the moral point, jadis replica limbs seemed perfectly fine too
But consider: these ones look cooler
They seemed perfectly fine. Which is why they weren’t actually fine.
A sword is indeed an awful, cursed thing, a tool designed only to make easier a singular task: to kill.
*Every* sword. Without exception.
What a perfect example of a successful speech check in PC RPGs.
Aaaaaand Allison Ten Mathangi is thus born.
“I aint gunna teach you how.”
“Yeah but please tho”
“Shit, okay”
I appreciate the adherence to formality of at least warning the pupil against learning the horribly dangerous forbidden technique. She will try to learn it eventually anyway so it is best ot get that out early.
Alison just did the equivalent of skipping past the EULA without reading it.
This is just too perfect.
Dang, not the bunny! I liked the bunny…
Wonder who that ‘old friend’ of Maya’s is?
Also, that prostethic Zoss’.
That prostethic arm is DEFINITELY Zoss’.
Man, I can’t even write English anymore!
It would certainly be strange if Zoss was the “old friend”. My general impression is that Zoss had vanished by the time Maya came to power, but she is shown as being among his philosophy court so maybe Zoss was still there in the beginning of the war.
If true then Maya may well know the story of Zoss’ disappearance and how he came to giving the key to successors.
