Hmm… There ya go, girl. Step it up a notch and get yer head together. Merge all them lesser Self’s into the greater I.
The human mind is incredible – it can convince itself of anything and takes to reprogramming / conditioning with just some motivation / dedication / perseverance. Unfortunately, most of us reprogram our brains with laziness, because it is the easy way. I’m certainly no exception.
One more thing… Nice touch with Incubus-in-drag! Can’t wait to see less of that in the future!
I am beginning to suspect Incubus’s “assistance” might truly be genuine. I think he is motivated by vengeance, out of being looked down on by the other demiurges. I think he’s grooming the Successor to truly succeed (in both senses), knowing that he will go down with the other demiurges in the end… but it will be worth it, just to see the looks on their faces.
I dunno about that. Yes, I agree he wants the rising king to succeed, but I strongly suspect that he’s got another gambit in the wings. Not something so banal as a betrayal and grab for the throne at the last moment, but even he’s not stupid enough to see that the current status quo cannot endure forever.
I cannot guess at his ultimate goal, but I’ll wager that he’s hedging all his bets so no matter what happens, when the dust settles he’ll have bettered his position one way or another
We’ve been shown what happened to myriad other kings who thought the same.
At best, I suspect that Incubus is setting up a ‘heads I win, tails you lose’ scenario. If Allison succumbs to his manipulations, he either rules through her or takes her power directly. If Alison resists successfully, the piece of Incubus which has taken up residence in her mind likely hopes to survive for as long as she does (a seeming eternity).
Admittedly one of the more useful powers.
Control your own mind, suppress what isn’t useful at any given time. Sociopathy might not be publicly acceptable, but it’s useful in a pinch.
Having control of yourself in face of your emotions is not the same thing as not being able to feel them at all. One is versatility through mental discipline, and the other is limitation through brain imbalance.
I gotta say, Incubus can’t pull off the drag look, but one must do what one must to hilariously dismiss the rising king for more ‘important’ things.
Like a meeting with ol’ Jagganoth, I presume. I wonder just what, exactly, is Incubus’s game, and how can Allison deliver his comeuppance in the most fitting way.
Yeah, you can hang a lot of symbolism on the use of the color purple for her in this scene.
The color of royalty.
The color of Ebon devils.
The color of Solomon David.
I came into it thinking her rainbow-colored friends were other aspects of the name of Yisun, lining up with the 7 and their specialities, but someone else mentioned devils so it might be she’s battling her inner demons instead of her inner gods.
Or maybe those two concepts aren’t so different in this universe…
Huh, “moral” Alison the only part of her mind with the King’s Key, while the bit of flame Incubus gave her only seems to rest in the power-hungry part of her mind.
So has anyone thought that maybe this same losing control of ur body to power thing happenedto the old conquering king and he abandonded his kingdom when he took back control.
A few thoughts: White Allison has the key, because she’s probably how her mind sees ‘herself’. The key was given to her, it’s been long enough for her to think of it as being her own. Black Allison has it, or at least the signs of it (the halo) because that’s the part of her that can use it unhindered. Another thought is the basic yin-yang. They are halves of the whole. YIS and UN. White Allison has the physical(?) key and Black Allison has the might it contains. Side note, the splinters of her mind are colored like, and may have superficial similarities to devils. Remember that humans and devils are both kindred through the Black Flame.
Incubus clearly has his sight rotten. Never doubt those vestigial sections of one’s Self, those tiny words in the back of one’s mind. Their words are blades. Clearly, deep inside, Allison knows that the only sanctioned action is to Cut.
Nah, the Conquering King got his power the old-fashioned way, bit by tiny bit, and by the time he claimed the Red City he was way beyond amateur-league goofs like losing control to a fraction of his own psyche.
Zoss wasn’t perfect by any means, but he was bad-ass. Anything that he did he did because he knew he wanted to, whole-heartedly. He was Zoss. His will be done. For good or for ill is up to debate, since we’re dealing with his legacy throughout this comic.
I would never underestimate the old king, who still plays chess though long since checkmated. He’s that good!
Incubus just knowingly gave Allison the idea to “kill herself” which, when taken into consideration with what the other Incubus (Sucubus?) said, most likely refers to the Power aspect of her.
No! Alyson, you must defeat this ruin of yourself! Find a way! No more doomed Kings! No more ruined Gods! Follow not YISUN, for it shall only lead to destruction!
Abbadon – just FYI, I tried to comment on Lancer two different times and couldn’t, reason unknown, since I can comment here. Are comments closed somehow? In any case, my comment was basically that your art is fantastic and would be a great addition to Lancer. (But please don’t slow down KSBD too much to do it.)
I wanna know how that meeting with the Joker goes.
Sociopath Allison looks amazing!

Can’t wait to see him wearing less then drag? A bold, and also dangerous, suggestion…
A fool believes what he sees, a wise man can reason away what is real.
Something that nobody else mentioned: Incubus basically just mentioned that he’s having another meeting with Jagganoth.
I still read it in a Harley Quinn voice. “Mistah J!”
Since it’s in Allison’s mind and her Earth is similar to ours, I bet she heard it that way too.
I am beginning to suspect Incubus’s “assistance” might truly be genuine. I think he is motivated by vengeance, out of being looked down on by the other demiurges. I’ve honestly thought that from the beginning.
So like a god-level:
“Nobody loves me Nobody wants me! Pay attention to me! LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO! (to get your attention)”
I dunno about that. Yes, I agree he wants the rising king to succeed, but I strongly suspect that he’s got another gambit in the wings. Do not confuse stoicism for sociopathy.

Stupid Sexy Incubus

I guess I’ll just have to keep watching!
Forgot to mention this last page – purple is the traditional color of royalty, and sociopath Alison is wearing purple.

“Stay safe,” is not advice kings are prone to taking.
And panel 2, Inky’s expression while saying “She is POWER.” He’s so terribly, terribly “Do want.” about it.
Huh, “moral” Alison the only part of her mind with the King’s Key, while the bit of flame Incubus gave her only seems to rest in the power-hungry part of her mind.
I’m curious to see how this plays out.
So has anyone thought that maybe this same losing control of ur body to power thing happenedto the old conquering king and he abandonded his kingdom when he took back control.
No, I never thought of that, but now you’ve said it that’s a fascinating idea.
Only sociopath Alison and Morality Alison have keys. not sure if that means anything yet.
A few thoughts: White Allison has the key, because she’s probably how her mind sees ‘herself’. The key was given to her, it’s been long enough for her to think of it as being her own. Zoss empowered her superego, but Incubus empowered her ego.
Does this say more about her, or them?
Incubus clearly has his sight rotten. Never doubt those vestigial sections of one’s Self, those tiny words in the back of one’s mind. Their words are blades. Clearly, deep inside, Allison knows that the only sanctioned action is to Cut.
Hah. Little did incubus realize, Alison is really got at beating herself up.
Nah, the Conquering King got his power the old-fashioned way, bit by tiny bit, and by the time he claimed the Red City he was way beyond amateur-league goofs like losing control to a fraction of his own psyche.

This one finds itself amazed at the glimpses into the mindspace of Incubus, Usurper of Usurpers.
Welp, Allison just learned that she has an ebon aspect.
Incubus just knowingly gave Allison the idea to “kill herself” which, when taken into consideration with what the other Incubus (Sucubus?) said, most likely refers to the Power aspect of her.
We are wary of what Allison does next.
Shit’s about to go down
BE HYPED
No! Alyson, you must defeat this ruin of yourself! Find a way! No more doomed Kings! No more ruined Gods! Follow not YISUN, for it shall only lead to destruction!
What Cio was afraid of metaphorically happening to her has now literally happened to Allison. I hope she appreciates the irony.

…on the plus side, if Allison can really do this, alone, she can probably beat the Demiurges and everything else too.
Huh. Allison’s selves seem to be colored Pale, Blue, Red, Verdant and Gold.
