Allison, all these meanings you attach to a label like that are things you do on your own. I dunno what you think being Girlfriend/Boyfriend means, but whatever it means is something you decide together with whomever you choose to have that relationship with.
And/or it might be commitment-issues, but I could be projecting on that one.
