“corpse god” is a generic term that refers to the 777,777 gods who spoke the spokes of the wheel into existence and died doing so.

Follow the story for years, author destroys your beloved pairing which actually got development in story to be better together just near the end of it and then brings the one-dimensional boring guy back as buffed up “hero” who meets his one page gf to score again and gets a cheek kiss out of nowhere.
Horrible end for Cio x Allisson shippers.

God. For readers of this story, some of you are just so dumb. First off, you aren’t entitled to the pairing of your choice. Write your own story. Second, he’s hardly one-dimensional, he just hasn’t seen nearly as much screen time – if they get together, it’ll be justified… but thirdly, it *literally* says “peck”, on the cheek. Do you need a neon fucking sign to explicitly say “don’t take this as evidence they’re going to begin a serious relationship”?
Just trust the damn author. You have come this far and expect disappointment now? Find a hobby.
Don’t disagree, just posting to note I’m glad to see an Exalted Reference and want the Internals book for 3e so bad.
He’s completely one-dimensional. Also, you’re quite arrogant rebuffing someone like that. You lead in with disparagement and insult. Then provide defense for a pairing that it seems like you personally support while attacking him for disliking it. How interesting.
Not that I particularly like Zahid since we didn’t see him a lot, nor do I see any sign that he will end with Allison (I mean I peck all my friends, boys, girls and others). Nor do I even hope he does, to be honest I still can’t cope with the death of Cio and that damned shard gives me hope ; but in his defense, he isn’t one-dimensional anymore. The sole fact that he made a choice to train and fight, whereas before he was just a passive human who got swept away by the various events of this world without agency, is proof that he evolved.
It’s just that, we didn’t get to see enough of him, every part of his evolution is still a mystery for us, to be uncovered later.
10 Thousand Calamity, just wanted to jump in to mention I feel you’re misinterpreting what Devil Tiger was saying there. They in no way endorsed or “defended” the ship you dislike. If anything they intentionally pointed out how that peck on the cheek WASN’T tied to the ship.
Personally, I agree with Devil Tiger’s thesis of “trust the author.” I also hope they’ve realized that their unnecessarily aggressive delivery of said point made it incredibly easy for folks to misinterpret what they were trying to say.
Lastly, I feel a need to defend the author from your “one-dimensional” accusation. Firstly it’s unreasonable to demand more from what up until recently was a minor supporting character, and secondly a TRUE one-dimensional character can be entirely summed up in only a few words.
Zade requires a few sentences to be adequately summarized, making him solidly two-dimensional. As we learn more about him in the coming book I’m certain that complexity will only grow, because this author knows what he’s doing.
TL;DR – Trust the author not to make one-dimensional characters.

If you check the author’s Twitter he acknowledges what the death of Cio looks like and asks the readers to bear with him as he will make it good in the end.
If you don’t like the story, you’re free to stop reading and go write your own.
i thought so far it was kind of obvious Alison is poly, with Cio and Broken Chain being part of the constelation.
She can date both!
A kiss of repressed desire, that she’s been longing for but never felt safe expressing. Now she has shed the cloak of fear and has hope, she can cling on to someone whom she genuinely loves, unlike the fling amid war that was Cio. Here’s hoping that Alison gets the ending she now can reasonably dream of and has always truly desired.

oh, bullhorns! zaid was never what she wanted-she “seduced” him(using that word becuse i have no other)in a fible attempt to seem cool to herself-something she has grown long, longgggg past now, after her jurney. and cio was not some fling-she had real feelings towards her, even i could see that, and…well, look at my name. it’s true shes bern seeking zaid, but from a sense of duty, not from love-and, after matom, from knowing she cant go back.
In her heart, she still desires a peaceful life and Zaid is a part of that. Things will never be normal but it’s clear that she has always wanted to return and, God willing, she will in the end.

Allison wants Cio to live but that’s just a platonic desire. Her fling was very clearly never romantic and filled a very temporary physical need.
I realise you desperately want to ship them and I don’t resent you for that but it’s hugely disrespectful to the actual story.
Okay putting this devil-speak shit aside, I wonder if we’re actually reading the same story here. You seriously think Abaddon is going to revert a “bury your gays” ending trope just to have Allison hook back up with the guy she put on her calendar at the start as “lose stupid virginity”? Let’s be real – girl’s been mutilated by a gluttony god, skin torn up in the vault of Yre after a possession session, lost an eye, arm, and leg facing an unkillable god and losing everybody she loves for 3 years, she’s got the master key in her head that got her into this whole mess, certainly has PTSD to the nth degree, you’re not going back to some quiet peaceful life after that and your overall view of existence itself shattered.
She sought Zaid out to begin with because he, like her, got tossed into this multiversal shit against his will, and I’m certain both know they can’t go back now. (And Abaddon had to edit a page to put Zaid in during the early parts of the battle with Jagganoth because Zaid was enough of a non-presence that he forgot to draw him in there.) I *am* excited to see how his character develops now that he’s not just a MacGuffin to drive the story forward, though by a story standpoint I wholeheartedly disagree that Allison only wants him in the end. Hell, she might not even want Cio in the end, but she sure as shit doesn’t want her to stay dead.
Also if this is bait on your part, good job. Genuinely. You got me if so.
At this point, I’m not even sure Alison herself knows what she wants. Just not what Jadis was offering. The whole Alison/Zaid thing as it looks now seems more a sister/brother relation ship. Did she love Cio? Not sure. Alison was pretty vulnerable relationship-wise, and Cio has shown herself to be pretty manipulative. Did they care about each other? Obviously.
I have to admit that I find it annoying how people kkep trying to force Alison into their own preferred paterns. She’s a young woman who had a lot of problems with herself, who was forced into a life she wasn’t at all prepared for. She has done a great job, but to think she now knows who she is and what she wants from life is a bit much. Let her be herself!
Honestly yeah, I agree with you here. Even if Allison doesn’t end up with Cio in the end – full character I’m playing that obviously would be geared toward devils aside – I just hope she can be some semblance of happy, and obviously a big thing in all this about the depression arc was just how *alone* she was, and having watched Cio die right in front of her. Part of what reignited her spirit was digging that mask shard out of her arm, even. Of course she wants Cio to be alive, and it was shown before that a repaired devil mask can call the same (or similar, that probably depends on names like with Yabalchoath) devil back.
It DOES however irk me to think this whole perceived “bury your gays” deal with them that Abaddon alluded was not what it seemed a year or so ago would be undone just for Allison to hook up with Zaid in the end. But again, like…the more I think about it, the more that person is obviously baiting lmao. I totally fell for it, but hey I got my points down well enough thanks to it.
Why do you keep bringing up ‘bury your gays’? There’s a huge range of representation in the story and a lot of characters have died.
Why do you keep trying to bury them? Honestly (and, Prim, who swore by Gentleness! Forgive me!), the two possibilities I see here are you are trolling (and angels always bite), or you are bringing some deep-seated darkness of the soul to your reading.
The straight dude guy literally introduced as “meaningless fling” represents Allison’s “deepest repressed desires that she never felt safe expressing” (or however you put it), while the queer devil whose relationship with Allison has been the focus of multiple story arcs is “just a temporary physical need”.
We don’t know Allison, we don’t know what Abbadon has planned, all of our readings and theories and OTPs involve some projection. But what you project onto the narrative says quite a bit about who you are and how you see the world. I see you, Krissy, and I am saddened.
I didn’t say she doesn’t care about Cio or want her to stay dead but it’s evident that the relationship is almost certainly over even if Cio returned. Allison has moved forwards, we have yet to see if Cio will too (if she returns).

…I admit, I really do want her to pop back home for a scene or two, just to look around.
Although, if Jadis is calling her the God of Suffering, the home she visits might be kinda destroyed.
I feel that she’s the god of suffering in that she’s the god who suffers.
I think that’s part of it, but I wouldn’t discount the amount of suffering a Wheel Smashing Lord can cause. Remember, we already know that she doesn’t end the cycle of violence: the Third Conquest she ignites is followed by a Fourth, and so on. Moreover, this whole war and the destruction it’s caused is a direct result of her interference in the delicate balance of power. Would this have happened eventually? Yes, certainly. But she’s responsible for how it’s already gone, and how it will go.
We called her All-Yisun, but turns out she’s actually Ilmater (who it turns out is actually a woman).

I assume its a moniker, but perhaps there is truth to that name. Yisun bifurcated oneinto Yis and Un, the everything and the nothing and in doing so created the fire and the void. Perhaps All-Yisun represents the collapse of the fire and the void and a return to oneness?
Pray to whom? There has always been a faint scent of a yet higher level here.

What do you mean faint scent? The Demiurges are second to the King, the King potentially second to only AL YISUN. People still pray to the dead god, creator of all. Who existed the entire expanse of time and also committed suicide during the first instant of eternity.
Plenty to pray to. Or the 777,777 children of AL YISUN, or the various split incarnations… some made up religion that doesn’t have a living or dead god attached to it. Plenty.

Also, are we certain this isn’t a Dark Souls situation, where even breaking the cycle is itself cyclical? Break the wheel or preserve it, what’s to stop some future person from coming along to break or build it anew?
All I’m saying is we’re jumping on this “smash the spinning metaphor donut” plan pretty quickly, and it could help to think things through, first?

For once the dead god corpses don’t seem to be as lifeless as they usually are.
In book 6, Allison will be as busy as a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest dancing to the sound of one hand clapping. But she got a few years rest in just now, so she ought to be ready.
She’s so cool. Great book, can’t wait to see what comes next.
