BREAKER OF INFINITIES 4-167 to 4-168
Chapter: 4
“Prim strode on, and the road stretched before her, taunting. The horizon unfurled itself again and again at each dawn, the sickening play of sunrise and sunset a never-ending, nauseating whirl, meaningless and endless.
After a thousand more days of walking, something broke in Prim, and her gaze no longer turned to the side of the road, nor caught on its many culverts, streams, or diversions. It no longer rested on the idea of a pleasant end, but the idea of ending. A primal dread and a terrible fury caught a hold of her and animated her limbs.
Prim began to run. And after a hundred days more, she began to sprint. She neither slept nor rested, and became a wild, tattered thing.”
– Prim masters the road.
Looks like she got a eye on the problem there!
The only truth lies in the sanctity of choice.
hey, could you kindly replace your name, sense it allmost identical to mine? i would replace mine, but i had it Firstת and have grown quite found of it.
“pefect” ?
While I understand Allison shedding her prosthetics, I do wonder what she’ll do with her right leg, since it had to be amputated. Then again, it might just be a matter of peeling off the skin covering it, same as her arm. Proudly wear her scars and all that.
The removal of the eye I don’t understand.
Aye
Its symbolic.
“If your arm makes you sin, cut it off, and if your eye makes you sin, gouge it out. For it is better to enter Heaven blind and maimed than to go whole into Gehenna.”
Stagnation is the cardinal sin against the nature of the universe, and Alison now seeks to reach Heaven.
“There is no difference.”
Out of everything she’s ever said, I think this is the most false. Of course, that is just a continuation of one of the first things she said- that her body was totally reconstructed. No, she was merely given parts back that looked the same on a surface level.
BIONIC AAARRRRM!!
I know she is a villain and a monster, but after everything Jadis did, Allison at least owns to be educated with her. Jadis got 0 thanks for everything she did.
In this last few pages Allison is striking me as another she-ra of a karen
I expect Allison’s left leg is also biomechanical… Although they removed the leg themselves, so nothing to say they couldn’t have fixed it up and re-attached it if they really wanted.
Still, even if the leg is bio-mechanical, I think the big take here is that Allison is acknowledging her loss, particularly of Cio, and restoring the damage to her body which are reminders of that loss. The leg doesn’t serve as a reminder.
RIGHT leg, not left.
Jadis’ squicked-out look is freaking hilarious. Been awhile since this comic made me laugh.
Jadis thoughts: OH NO MY BEAUTIFUL WAIFU
Ghost of Cio: Take tha yae wannabe build-a-bitch witch!
That is SOME good prostethic arm! When she was awakened it was a quite thin, and when she was starving herself it got even thinner, and then it grew back to normal, just like her real arm!
I’ve said it before – Eyepatches are cool. Entirely aside from the fact that they help hide the horrifying, moist red hole in the part of your face that other people have to look at.
It’s sort of weird to me how many people assume that, just because Abaddon said so in a tweet, that it 100% means Jadis is absolutely reliable. I mean… you realize Abaddon is just as capable of bullshit as everyone else, right? “He said this character is telling the truth so she’s definitely telling the truth” does not strike me as the strongest basis for an argument.
I’m not saying I want this to turn into some generic superhero story where Allison Rights all the Wrongs and Saves The Day, but I can’t say a story where Suffering is Guaranteed and Everything is Screwed is all that enticing or interesting either.
Jadis can be 100% correct, and there still be room for some kind of victory. The world is more complex than words can describe. There can be plenty of room between the words, things left unspoken, things that are a matter of perspective.
Man, that Bill Cipher really gets around
Oh shit, how much of her body actually survived? is her brain intact?
Well, despite all this, I’m personally still a fatalist. The brain is still a decision machine pushed by all kinds of outside and internal influences and free will is still illusion.
That mostly aside, like the other demiurges, Jadis has a few screws loose. Her insanity is based on believing her machine is perfect and convincing others that it is. The demiurge asked, over and over, why Allison kept choosing the path of defiance and suffering (Which are inextricably linked in my opinion.)? And she almost had Allison convinced.
But now the cards are on the table and Allison has chosen defiance once again.
Sisyphus smiles!
I’ve been watching the ongoing argument about free will vs predetermination for weeks now, and I find it interesting that no one’s really made the point that neither option really effects the practical end of things.
If anyone has free will, then they make decisions and act upon them as they always will, methods of determining and enacting each adjusting as one learns from experience.
If anyone moves as the protein chains fall, then the program that simulates such things will process along the course anyways. Decisions are made, actions are taken, and the rest is pagentry.
Motion is the breaker of infinities. If free will exists, then it is conceivable a will can grasp the means to break cycles and executes them to their end. If predeterminism exists, that does not preclude that the cycle is not doomed to break itself. THe only difference is that one predicates itself on foresight and the other hindsight, and both ultimately rely on movement being done to see what is.
Even Jadis, in her cage of omniscience, must still commit to motion-so why let the question bring pause?
Hey mate there’s a typo in the last dialog bubble, it says pefect instead of perfect. Amazing work other than that!
Are we not gonna talk about how freaking big that eyeball is?
Not sure if it is an intentional visual joke on how eyes are drawn in comics or just HUMONGOUS
I fail to understand why she removed her eye and is probably going to remove the artificial arm.
If she is going to fight she will need them, instead she is crippling and half blinding herself.
she removed the skin from her arm, but she’ll likely keep the prosthetic. however, she absolutely will not pretend it isn’t a prosthetic any longer.
as for the eye… yisun saw fit to grant her a spare
GIRL. BOSS.
It is very difficult to learn how to cut the self into a new shape. Some start literally so they can cut Truly later.
wow that eye orb is huge
Jadis:”Why the eye though?”
