Its very possible that Cio agreed with Incubus and did this to save Allison. To force her to tap into deeper emotional reserves to power up and at the very minimum defend herself.
Its also possible that in death she will become a permanent source of power for Allison if her mask survives.
Now would be a good time for Jagganoth to come back and kill another demiurge. I’d welcome him. Though he probably would be more merciful than Incubus deserves.
And this is where I set fire to my physical copies of Kill Six Billion Demons volumes 1-3. Just like I did to my physical copies of Attack on Titan.
Nah, I’m not actually gonna do that yet. I’ll save the matches and lighter fluid for when Allison hooks up with Zane again as Cio stays perma-dead. But I am done with Kill Six Billion Demons for now. Never going to engage with it for the foreseeable future. And if I see Tom’s name on the author’s credits of literally anything then I am avoiding it.
Imagine following a story for years just to chuck it in the bin at the second-to-last chapter, becasue events occured in a plausible manner and your favourite character died.
Were you ever here for the story being told, or to daydream about hot sexy imps?
I was here for a fun, exciting beautifully illustrated divine mulitversal epic story of queer people in their quest to attack and dethrone God. And my favorite character was White Chain. In fact I had immense faith and trust in Tom after what he did with White Chain’s arc. Like “Finally! We get something!”
But stop me if you’ve heard these before; Attack on Titan, Voltron, Life Is Strange Episode 5, My Hero Acadamia, The 100, Supernatural, Chainsaw Man, “Dead Lesbian Syndrome”, the “Bury Your Gays” trope. I have been burned so many times by this trope and I can still count on one hand the stories I’ve seen that avert it. I’m sick and tired of seeing queer people like myself dying over and over and over and over.
Some people have speculated that Cio might come back and I’m like “Cool. If it happens, tell me about it and I’ll catch up with the story then. Until then, I’m done.” I’m tired of giving creators the benefit of the doubt when it’s a benefit I almost never get a return on.
Only ever trust actual LGBT creators. Never trust “allies.”
Well, that’s a note for future generations: “only straight characters can ever die. No killing queer characters, ever.”
That will surely pave way for many more deep and serious LGBT characters in media! /s
Snark aside, I’m just another voice on the internet, and my opinion on your opinions is as important as a fart, but… I just don’t understand the outrage. She wasn’t killed due to her being queer, it wasn’t a cheap “OH BY THE WAY I’M GAY AND MADLY IN LOVE WITH YO– *dead*,” heck, the death is not random – she died protecting Alison, not a random cishet passing by, as if she was more expendable due to her queerness. Cio, Alison, and White Chain are queer, and with Princess Moonshine they are on the frontlines of every dangerous situation – they are constantly on the verge of getting maimed/killed. I can understand the frustration when the ‘token-queer’ of the party gets killed or sacrificed for the team, but in this case 3 out of 4 high-risk characters are queer, *there’s big chances that one of them will get hurt in a story where people get hurt*.
You’ve said you were in for an “epic story of queer people in their quest to attack and dethrone God,” and it is a quite fine description of KSBD – but, considering all the gore and death we’ve already seen, did the possibility of a main character dying never occur to you? Was it supposed to be smooth sailing only, we’re kicking everybody’s asses without any casualties, ever?
I dunno, it feels to me like making queer characters invulnerable in the face of a *potentially multiverse ending war between the last living demigods* only because lazy writers grew comfortable using them as an expendable emotions bait seems like a recipe for flat characters. They’re not ‘real’ people anymore – they’re never in danger, they can’t die, they can’t make a choice to sacrifice themselves – not only for the hetero party, but for any reason – they can only ever win.
You’re free *not to like a thing*, but to drop such a long story in progress right before the finale, because a character gets killed… it just feels like a giant loss for everyone involved.
Anyway, that’s just my opinion thrown onto the web. I sincerely hope your day gets better! Less sincerely, may your queer characters ever be invulnerable.
What a ridiculous and ridiculously entitled perspective!
These characters have been together for actual years of real time. They are the core cast. Their relationship has received significant attention, evolved in several important ways over the course of the series, and even served as the focal point of multiple story developments.
Even if this WAS the last we saw of Cio (which it is not, if you have been paying attention to how this universe works), it would be a perfectly valid and heroic sacrifice of someone trying to save the person they love, fighting to the death for her at the end of the world.
And if the presence of queer character is, for whatever reason, an absolute requirement for you to enjoy fiction, I remind you that it’s hardly as if Allison became less gay because her girlfriend died.
Grow up.
This is the apocalypse chapter. Bad things are happening. They are as spectacular as they are dreadful to see. It is the natural narrative course for these bad things to happen. But there will be many chapters more in this book, and an entire book more after that!
Will Allison avenge Cio? Will she find a way to undo the wrongs of the universe? Will master her powers over TIME and space?
Being queer is not a superpower against being killed by demiurges, I’m afraid.
And I see as well being queer is not a superpower against being an entitled whiner.
PS: Abaddon you goddamn rock. Didn’t see that coming. Thank you.
Absolutely pathetic entitled rant. People like you, with such limited viewpoints, should just keep away from anything of quality so everyone else can enjoy it. Good luck with the book-burning, hope nothing you want to keep catches light too!
abaddon on twitter:
“I debated cutting this part from the book for a while but I think it’s pretty important for the arc going forward. Anyway, thanks for reading and I implore you to please stick with it and see this through for the next part of the story before sticking w/ gut reactions”
so he is obviously aware of how some people will see this, and is asking people to bear with him. your mileage may vary of course, but his track record so far is very good imo
I – wisdom doth not derive from restraint; rather, wisdom deriveth from self-autonomy
II – talent doth not derive from inherence; rather, talent deriveth from practice, failure, and yet more practice
III – mastery doth not derive from power; rather, mastery deriveth from power applied with great precision
IV – Royalty doth not derive from strength; rather, Royalty deriveth from command over one’s own nature
with these trite aphorisms of dubious veracity complete, let us then ask: who in the present scene has attained wisdom? who has attained talent, and mastery? and who, dear listeners, has attained Royalty?
Gonna go ahead and say that this character isn’t actually getting fridged, since Abaddon commented on his Twitter about certain tropes, so I’m assuming he means this one.
I mean, we’ve had a 100% no-special-magic-powers-literally-just-an-exceptional-thief human *literally get eaten by a door face* and she came back (sans arm as well), so I’m not convinced that Cio is dead and gone just yet.
“The Centurion loved his sword, and the shape of his sword, and most of all, he loved to use it. He was masterful at killing with the sword, which made him an exceptionally poor swordsman.”
It’s like what the sword master was saying about the mouse… and also that parable about the 3 men who needed water in the desert and the one who never gave up.
I don’t care if this a fixed time point in a completely metaphysically different fictional reality I’m coming right through the 4th wall to whoop this mans ass…. *Cracks knuckles*
Jagganoth is going to get tickled in comparison to what Incubus deserves right now.
she’s fine, it’s fine, it’s all fine, it’s okay
Its very possible that Cio agreed with Incubus and did this to save Allison. To force her to tap into deeper emotional reserves to power up and at the very minimum defend herself.

Oop. Prettyboy just signed his own death warrant, methinks…
Well that’s a bummer. Sort of proved his point though, if you think about it. She rushed in before he was fully spent, and got killed for it.
Now would be a good time for Jagganoth to come back and kill another demiurge. I’d welcome him. Though he probably would be more merciful than Incubus deserves.
I AM THE STORM THAT IS APPROAAACHING
This is lovely
Thank you Abaddon.
I am enjoying Incubus being bad, so very much.
If the mask is intact she’ll be alright, right?
RIGHT???
And this is where I set fire to my physical copies of Kill Six Billion Demons volumes 1-3. Just like I did to my physical copies of Attack on Titan.

It would have cost you 0 dollars not to say that

Well now she clearly can get back with her true love! /S
Hope she actually isn’t dead and this isn’t kill your gays trope.

Not Khay, the goon at the head of the thread.
Not taken personnally, buddy 🙂
Bye. You won’t be missed.
It’s been almost a year and I hope you still feel stupid for this embarrassing pissbaby comment.
abaddon on twitter:

Ciao Cio
oshit
a small series of precepts:
I – wisdom doth not derive from restraint; rather, wisdom deriveth from self-autonomy
II – talent doth not derive from inherence; rather, talent deriveth from practice, failure, and yet more practice

this old fool leaves it to you to decide.
“A spark of impenetrable darkness flashed within the concealed of the concealed.”

For an incubus, he’s not very nice to women.
“The Centurion loved his sword, and the shape of his sword, and most of all, he loved to use it. He was masterful at killing with the sword, which made him an exceptionally poor swordsman.”
I read through all these pages knowing this one was coming. What I didn’t know when I first saw it was how much it would hurt.
God damn. Please come back, little imp lady. Make it another miracle, I don’t mind. I’m gonna miss you if you don’t.
Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn :((((((
It’s like what the sword master was saying about the mouse… and also that parable about the 3 men who needed water in the desert and the one who never gave up.
RE-F
Behold, the price. As I said, so long ago, nothing is free.
I don’t care if this a fixed time point in a completely metaphysically different fictional reality I’m coming right through the 4th wall to whoop this mans ass…. *Cracks knuckles*
The King of the Heretic’s Court was right. The moment she gave up, she lost the wager, and Cio was the price.
well good thing white chain and cio are basically immortal. just summon em on back. if that had happened to allison she’d simply be lost
