Reading through the alt-text, I have to wonder what material Ruin was made from, or how large a sword it was, that it required *one million* hammer strokes to forge. Perhaps neutronium, adamantium, and unobtanium all forge welded together?
If destroying Metatron was all it took to save the universe, Zoss could have done it a long time ago, even before creating the Key of Kings. And perhaps he should have done so, for the existence of the Keys appears to have made everyone else weak and dependent on them, since none even rise close to his power even with the Keys.
As of panel seven I am suddenly reading Solomon David in the voice of Theseus from Hades and while fitting it strips him of any residual gravitas he may have had.
Xanadu ten Mercury "Murder the Gods and Pillage their Secrets" , fruit merchant.
There’s another click here, and here’s another theory.
Zoss wants to find a true successor, because the universe he keeps reincarnating over and over again fails. He believes that the failure is his, so he needs to find a successor.
Jagganoth was not the first true successor-but the one that managed to figure out most of what went wrong. When Zoss broke the Prime Angels, he broke the systems that kept the universe running properly. Even when he reformed the Angels to serve as the creators of law and order, the system was broken.
Metatron bears the secret names of YISUN…and has reformed enough of what passes for a “mind” for a being like him to realize that “destroying everything” is just the first step of rebooting everything. Which is why the Thorn Knights want to keep Alison alive and capable-so they can reboot things the way they want them to be.
Metatron helped Jagganoth to skip at least one attempted reboot of the universe, in exchange for his help to do a full reboot-one that would end Zoss and his interference in rebuilding the universe.
The Seven were left where they were by Zoss to prevent this. The true successor to Zoss can defeat them-noting less can do so. This is why Jagganoth wants the Master Key-if he has that strength, he can finally reach the Root and allow Metatron to destroy everything-and restart from scratch.
That’s a righteous story and worth expanding upon. We’ll see later if it matches Abbadon’s story. You might care to expand yours to the 3-beermat level and look at some of the details. E.g. how information carries forward across these restarts to inform the players inside the restarted multiverse. (Not a snark BTW, I’m actually interested in that kind of world-building.)
Anyway, it suggests a horrible dilemma for Allison et al.: replacing something so broken even the angels won’t conserve it vs. saving everything and everybody they’ve ever loved. I’m glad it’s not my choice.
zoss killed all the prime angels but metatron, who he kept alive to tease out the names of god. but why did he leave metatron still living? if metatron is killed and reforms, would the powers of the keys return to him? if jag accomplishes his goal of killing metatron, would the powers of the demiurges cease to be? we can only hope. no gods no masters.
Hrmm… Reckon that’s some incredible misdirection tactic, to toss your weapons all about you in a casual manner, like you’re keen to de-escalate. Figure that leaves a weapon easily at hand no matter which way Jagganoth happened to be facing. Just reach out and grab one and blam! It’s on!
Um, small copyediting point here. ‘Deigned’ executioner seeems to be an error. It could be ‘deemed’ or ‘designated’ or ‘destined’ but ‘to deign’ means ‘to condescend’ or ‘to consent to a request in a grudging fashion from a position of authority’. I can see how the usage might be confusing, but the word is not usually employed in this context.

oh what a day, what a lovely day
Oh what a joyful moment

There is nothing but good sense stopping you from hammering plain steel a million times, mind.
You mean Adamantine. Adamantium is the fictional metal unique to Marvel Comics. Adamantine is the mythical metal on which it was based.

DODGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Asterius is at least as equally as buff and sexy as Solomon David.
“nope”

Or, I could just be full of it.
Doesn’t steer far from my own cogitations, methinks.

War is an act of anger. The balancer of anger is peace. War, however, enacts suffering.
The true enemy of suffering is KINDNESS.
Reach Heaven through violence and find it false!

The “(significant pause) Nary a mote of understanding” panel perfectly encapsulates Alison’s journey to this point.
My boy Davie about to be oma wa mo shindeiru’ed
And we know he is not lying .. how exactly ?
An auspicious night to turn my eyes back to this tale.

Won’t metatron just reform?
The older an angel’s current incarnation, the longer they’ll take to be reborn. And 1 Metatron was there at The Beginning.
