First of all, love that the Berserkers have the same T-shaped swords that the Uruk-Hai berserkers have in The Two Towers, fun little nod there
Second of all, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of “a lot of the little guys taking on the big guys and holding their own while doing it”, no matter what form it takes. It’s just a “hell yeah” every time.
Unless I’m mistaken, those “t-shaped swords” from the film are an exaggerated interpretation of an executioner’s sword. Something heavy with no tapered blade designed exclusively for chopping heads off stationary targets.
While its weight and inability to stab makes it wildly less effective than a regular sword, it really works in the setting’s context. The whole point of an executioner’s sword is that it trades skill for raw strength. It’s like the club of swords: just swing it in the general direction of the target with enough force, and that big heavy blade will be sure to do SOME damage. Even axes and hammers require more aim!
It’s a sword, not a club, they still need to watch their edge alignment in order to make any cut effective. The spike at the end merely makes it more effective at dealing with heavy armour or shields. It’s not trading skill for strength, it’s specialisation.
I mean, there’s a reason he was chosen in previous iterations to wield the Key. He might not have ultimately been the right person to be the Wheel Smashing Lord, but he can certainly hold it in place while Allison beats the shit out of it.
Now, now, lets not jump to conclusions, even a broken clock is right twice a day, it may have been a fluke!
If Zaid doesn’t Jobs within the next 10 updates, and manages to do something else, maybe he could stand on court and plead a defense for the allegations
Well he is a fraud in story like sense, all other characters. especially main females ones, had to go through horrible hardships, abuse and mutilations and lose to get where they are now
But Zaid? He got scot-free: he got a gf, 2 cool swords during timeskip basically for nothing compared to what female characters had to survive in this comic for their powers alone.
Only difference is he is a man and they are not so yeah author is quite biased in that direction for Zaid favourism, maybe for the male centric readers sake.
Sadly cause he could easily show us 2 or 3 pages of Zaid getting abused by some ugly bastard lady to get what he got too 😉
House, The parents of the patient say mice are against their religion. I’m afraid you-wait where is that squeaking coming from? House? House get back here!
his development happens offscreen (because he’s not the main character) so you assume nothing bad ever happens to Zaid.
“Only difference is he is a man and they are not so yeah author is quite biased in that direction for Zaid favourism, maybe for the male centric readers sake.” Are we reading the same comic
Are we still having the conversation that Zaid is the Heir, not Allison, the actual main character of the comic and has had a title card with all of her Royal titles which include “THE HEIR”
He’s not a fraud, but your main point is something I’ve been grumping about for years: Zaid’s been rescued from horrible situations, escaped having to participate in the most dangerous encounters, been handed incredible martial arts powers (as far as we know, though this could still be fixed through flashbacks) and hooked up with a smart beautiful girlfriend, all unearned. Now he’s finally part of the fighting team, but even sacrificing himself for the cause – even to save Allison or Cio or White Chain – will have a hard time making up for the hall pass he’s had up until now. But if anyone can pull off that narrative, it’s Abbadon.
“Zaid has not suffered enough to have good things happen to him” uhh this isn’t Zaid’s story? Zaid’s character arc is being mistaken for the hero when he’s the damsel in distress. His lack of suffering is Alison’s triumph: she saved him! Her coming back to find she “failed” would be a real downer for her, as would him being killed here. More like Alison will save him from Inccubus by catching Inky’s sword with her hands as part of her own growth and arc.
Second, his in-story subverted narrative is as the “intended” hero. These are traits the previous king selected for. Having everything come easily is both why he was picked to be the successor and why he is a terrible candidate to break the cycle. If he ever rules, it will be because Alison commands him to.
And after that there’s also the theme of envy/jelousy that he’s connected to. Each one of Alison’s friends has thematic ties to an Emperor, and Zaid’s is Gog. There’s a trope there where Alison and Zaid have reasons to envy the other. She envying his easy life of inevitable success, her overshadowing him as the true king. But they refuse to, thus symboically surpassing the Emperors.
So yeah Zaid getting stuff handed to him on a silver platter serves multiple story purposes, including “nobody cares about Zaid” “Zaid’s purpose is to enable Alison badassery” and “he represents one of the seven sins defied.”
You can also read it in this meta way. He is “gifted by the narrative” bet ya maybe the last two circles where much faster just for the fact he didn’t spent all that time practicing angelic kungfu and what if assassination. He got the key, he brute forced himself tru the narrative.
I’m sure you get this a lot, Preem Head, but I’m always tickled pink by your comments. You’re like an unofficial addition to the comic for me at this point. Were I to purchase a definitive omnibus of KSBD, I would wish for the Head’s wisdom to be printed beneath each page. It would otherwise feel incomplete, somehow.
God-smooshing fist.
Preliminars for a night of romantic love making.
Shut up, House!
I’m the volley ball, not the oncologist.
I just recently started and caught up with this comic, and this is the first time I’m getting to see her charge up a punch for days. This is magical.
Literally.
The design is actually traditional african sword shapes. Its to catch a foe so even tip damage is a larger wound.
Come on man!
More thanamonth!
.
It’s the end!
Big Punch
Regular Normal Punch
We’ll see exactly how normal the punch is by what sound it makes. It could be anything.
Sound choices:
– squadron of clowns all excitedly honking their horns
– misfiring cartoon spring-glove
– sad trombone
– tumbleweed breeze
Pick three, discard two.

YEAAAHGGGHHHHHH
ZAID!!! YOU DID IT! YOU BEAT THE FRAUD ALLEGATIONS!!!

Actual deranged take.
It means it’s not an infection.
It’s cancer.
Scan her brain for tumors.
This man needs mouse bites to live.

I’m very interested in what you said about Allison’s friends having ties to each emperor. where can I find more information about this?

*zaid ollies outie*
COMING IN FROM DOWNTOWN!!!!!
Skaaaadoooooooooosh
One. Punch. Woman.
Minced meat buffet coming up! Made from prime beef!
* the Who dont get fooled again* YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAA
LETS GO WHEEL SMASHING LORD!
Cannon fodder.
We about to get a beautiful “ONE PAAAAAAWNCH” moment, I can feel it
The repeated imagery of fists coinciding with the start of the battle is choice. mwa
Also how in the previous panels they’re always punching down and yet allison is the only one punching up
I mean is she tho? it definitely looks like she’s gonna punch from really high up
Royalty is a continuous punching motion.
It reminds me of Breaker Of Infinities 1-19 where the rising fist on the last panel of the page was similarly ominous.
Piano plays softly
Hide your horse in cream cheese
and cut pepperoni
Horse. Pepperoni. Pepperoni. Horse.
you’ve been shopping at Iceland again, haven’t you?
Which son of yours would you trust to mask your pony?

What I wanna know is, who makes all these enormous thongs?
This cast iron piece of cod which passeth all understanding
All berserkers have a weekly allotted 30 minutes of arts and crafts class, graciously bestowed by Incubus. Before then Jags just bought them in bulk.
That fist is locked, cocked, and ready to rock.
And inevitably some poor bastard with a mop and bucket will have to clean it up afterwards.
royalty is one continuous mopping motion
Hey if all goes wrong that will be god
This hand of hers is burning hot
One could say that it glows with an awesome powerrrrr
Its bright glow tells her to grasp victory…
Allison is about to do something so fucking hot
Who are we?
Who are we, really?
…is that The Immigrant Song I’m hearing in the background?
haha, glad I’m not the only one who though that. God damn that scene goes so hard.
Waiting 4 weeks for this punch to land is gonna feel like Goku charging the spirit bomb.
United States Of SMASH!
omg, the build up….
