In all its chaos it still has shades of former glory, even now there is still a nugget of gold to be found. But such things arent usually standing without guardians…
Coming from earth and viewing Ashton from afar you would notice two particular things about this city, one which you would shrug your shoulders at, and the other which would absolutely boggle your mind. Possibly you are good at mathematical “guestimation”, and given the approximate length of one train cabin you figured that the radius to the outer wall was around 4.3km, giving the city’s area to the outer wall right around 58km^2 (circumference being 27km). This you would shrug your shoulders at – New York is estimated at 800km^2, about 13 times larger in area!
However, you would then notice the height of the wall. Right around 1km high (as far as you can actually see – it could be deeper to depths you cannot see)… and your jaw and brain short circuit. This city puts ant-hills to shame in its density. Earth’s own Burj Khalifa would not reach from the bottom to the top of this wall. As a cylinder, Ashton’s *volume* is over 58km^3 – and no Earthly city has *ever* measured its volume.
Earth’s now destroyed Kowloon Walled City would have been a quaint little neighborhood in Ashton.
For added entertainment value, try measuring the distance from the outer wall to the inner walls. First from the outer wall. Then from the inner wall. Compare the numbers you arrive at.
For added educational value, try to walk that distance in a straight line, and count your steps.
Awesome blog. I enjoyed reading your articles. This is truly a great read for me. I have bookmarked it and I am looking forward to reading new articles. Keep up the good work!
To date, there have been three… attempts to take a census of Ashton’s population from various interested parties. Unfortunately, each one of them has ended with valued scholars dismembered, the only two estimates ranging from “too many” to “at least 16 fewer than when we started” from the “Air Spire Accounts” and the “Teeth Collectors” respectively.
I NEED this as a poster. PLEASE

a broken sun is
truly a terrible thing
I stayed up late last night reading through all the archives of this comic. Very worth the loss of sleep, and I’m really excited for the next update!!
I’m always so happy when you post an update, especially when it’s a page like this one…
I was really confused because I saw the first half and thought it was still back there.
This is cyberpunk as shit. Love it.
Wow, you made me want to live there. However, if they had internet I’d just stay inside all day anyway.
Yea… not much difference, I guess.
But perhaps I could afford a slave or two. I always wanted a few, but I guess we’re too underdeveloped yet.
Vaguely Attack on Titan themed or maybe it’s just me…

I don’t get how you ran the numbers exactly since the scale seems off…
If she were to draw things in-scale, we would not be able to see stuff.
But, of course, you can stay with your volume theory, it is actually cool too. But DEFINITELY there are scale problems.
Amazing!
It’s like the Kill Six Billion Demons version of those Family Circus strips where one of the kids wanders all the fuck over the place. 🙂
beauty, the sights you’ve shown us
I think is missing one spot with “you are here” to show where Alice-Un is.
Someone needs to set a D&D campaign in here.
This is fantastic. I love how seriously you take your universe.
The description of Gog-Agog Paradise Dome reminds me of that 3D place we saw in City of a Thousando worlds.
As for all else, rad! Love the place. Would live in there if possible.
Huh. So there is another surviving practitioner of Ki-Rata aside from Solomon David? The monk guarding the green space.
For how much you had to sell your soul to make such details?

Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic.
I muttered “meu deus” right as opened this one. Wow. I haven’t the words.

Oooh I found a continuity/retcon easter egg…
Surely Solomon wouldn’t permit the old monk of the tower to exist?
Holy shit, not even going to offer any comments this, this is amazing. Even Yisun would be impressed by your artistry
