King of Swords 9-110
Chapter: 9
“The first movement: close the gate. Only those that challenge it will pass.
The second movement: bar the gate. Only those with the strength to break the bar will pass – even then, their strength will be worn.
The third, and superior movement: become the gate. The only way through is to destroy you utterly.”
– Tireless Horse Manual
I see. Betrayal is an invention of heaven. One does not simply fall and become tainted by evil. The devil is just another angel.
Ovis? Is not YS-Prim the founder of all the fist-arts?
I don’t remember seeing that. Could be a case of ‘multiple claimants to the same thing which really has no single origin point’. It’s also noted in the alt text that Ovis might not have actually existed, hence the dispute.
Too bad Allicio can’t defeat White Chain the same way Allison defeated her dark self back in Mammon’s tower…
Also, it seems White Chain is feeling betrayed by Allison. Or is that just my imagination?
Last chapter, Princess Jack Moonshine demonstrated the situations under which a devil might change from blue to red. Given that Cio is now under a similarly stressful situation, and right after going through some emotional development at that, it’s possible that we’ll soon see an example of a devil changing color while acting as part of a devilskin warrior.
Ah, wait, it two entire books ago, not one chapter. I was remembering how this comic was divided up all wrong there.
The main thing though is that Princess wanted to become more powerful (more specifically, they didn’t want to ‘die’ while “so diminished”). Does Cio have any desire to become red? There are indications that she doesn’t want to and Princess’s case seems to indicate that ‘levelling up’, as it were, is a conscious willful action and that a devil might be able to prevent themselves from ‘levelling up’ if they so chose it.
I know, I know, it’s like ‘what devil would choose not to level up in mask color’, well, Cio with her history for one (given how rare ebons are compared to the total population, there aren’t many former ebons either, that we know of, and we don’t know the turnover rate of ebons falling from power), and I could imagine situations where they might decide that it’s not the right time to ‘level up’.
What? Cio is evolving!
…Nevermind.
Why though, the only reason Allison has survived is plot armour that can rival jagganoths invincibilty and has done everything her power to get herself killed. I really hope abbadon doesn’t abandon any pretens of a theme and portray Allison as in the right, power ups always need to have a cost, Faust didn’t live a long and happy life.
Why did it put my rely there?
White chain has an extraordinarily good point here. even today, it has yet to be addressed. Sure, Zoss chose Allison to be the heir, but we’ve kind of just been assuming that she’d be a better leader than the demiurges because she’s our protagonist. given her lack of consideration both for her friends and the consequences of her actions, she could easily become either a tyrant or be so inept at ruling that she makes things worse.
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
I am continually amazed by the amount of information available on this subject. What you presented was well researched and well worded in order to get your stand on this across to all your readers.
well, damn, white chain. ‘im gonna beat the shit out of you and then we’re going home’ she really is like allison, always going aggro when the going gets tough, not thinking ahead. what you gonna do with a ‘demiurge’ huh after you’ve beaten her into submission? just gonna keep her locked up like a prisoner with a magus gate in her head?
