Might I suggest training with various weapons and armor? Perhaps the Manual of Hands and Feet could address styles which incorporate the environment into their combat styles? For example, while White Chain’s foot-to-jaw entrance here was impressive, they could have just as easily subdued the devil by detonating the wall they were standing on.
Then again, that might have also risked Allison Ruth. Fair enough, but I still prefer combat styles which afford the capacity to use tools beyond the practitioner’s own body. I personally practice a defensive style which implicitly incorporates shield-parries, but could just as easily respond with a length of rebar, or a hardened forearm. I’ve heard quite a few belittle me for bringing a buckler shield to battle, calling me a coward. With few exceptions, those lot tend toward recklessness and death.
But enough about that, we’re talking about Allison Ruth.
Her technique is only “inexcusably sloppy” in that she’s practicing a combat style that implicitly expects you to be a practitioner from conception, and she’s been practitioner for only a year. “Inexcusably sloppy” can be saved for the three year mark.
IN ORDER TO MASTER A WEAPON YOU MUST FIRST MASTER YOUR OWN SELF. ONLY THEN WILL USING A TOOL BECOME USING A WEAPON.
BUT WHILE YOU ARE CORRECT THAT INEXCUSABLY SLOPPY MAY BE A STRONG CHASTISEMENT, SHE IS ALSO ONE WITH THE KEY, AND MUST LEARN TO BE BETTER IF SHE IS TO SURVIVE.
It can be also interpreted as a vertically inverted “I” (itself a reference to the leader of the demonkind), which is not unlike his own physical position in the final panel.
She prepped for one fight and ended up being unprepared for the one she got.
Also, I still think she’d have beaten Killboss in time, she’s got the durability to tank and she just needed to figure out how to put on the hurt.
Why is Alison the only one allowed to improve? The world is dynamic. White Chain is probably loads stronger as well – after all, it has rightly been said that you learn the most while teaching.
Also, I don’t think we have any evidence that KILLBOSS flattened Delicious. Delicious could’ve just been fired.
Do children no longer learn the elementary game of strategy which teaches that those that you trample upon may in turn be able cut those that can smother you?
I would ask what the world is coming to, but one need only look around Throne to know.
Even to the seeming end, nothing in this exchange was shown to be able to meaningfully harm Alison. Killboss’ blows may have split her lip at one point.
Inexcusably Sloppy, the secret technique only mastered by the greatest of Protagonists. Sheer Will and Plot Armor will push its user to victory, but never before getting kicked around for Entertainment of the Masses and the Appearance of Tension where truly there is none.
Was this rampage of guild slaying justice part of Alison’s training and thus White Chain was observing her progress and is now disappointed at her failures. Or has the young king been sneaking out to rampage for justice and White Chain has shown up to chastise her for such reckless behavior.
Hrmm… I was just wondering if his other horn would snap off, from being kicked into the ground like that. Which made me realise that he must have lost his first horn in a Rock-Off Challenge! You know, the Demon Code prevents them from declining a Rock-Off Challenge.
Hrmm… I was just wondering if his horn would get snapped off from being kicked into the ground like that. That made me realize that he must have lost his other horn in Rock-Off Challenge! Y’know, the Demon Code prevents them from declining a Rock-Off Challenge…
Hrmm… those guys were “fuckin’ lame”, iirc. But they did get lucky and blast off a horn. Maybe someone else got lucky too? Maybe it’s the same demon devil? Hrmm…
I mean, its possible, but we must remember that devils rock too hard, for they are not mortal men, maybe some legends of the olden days could have taken one with ease but those have passed, master Killmister or Dio could have definetly done it, for example.
Hard to think of one alive that could still do it, the great Osbourne, as awesome as he is, is far past his prime, Stephen Tyler looks like he could do the job or perhaps Grohl…
Hrmm… I think you’re correct, Master Pios. Few modern masters rock hard enough to defeat the immortals. Perhaps The Nugent (but again, another past his prime), or The Red Rocker?
Although I have to admit that I am not well versed in the best of the modern Rockers, and those who currently struggle to replace the Legends of the past.
Well, it is a red demon after all. My face is, er, that color.
Jumping off a building to kick someone in the face while keeping your arms folded and continuing to lecture your student? White Chain’s “cool” technique is flawless.
Now I’m wondering if the poor Killboss is going to be picked up out of the gutter, so White Chain can demonstrate correct technique on him before getting Allison to practice some more.
“No, not like that. Like this.” *wallop*
“Oh, like that? Ok, let me have a go. I can do that.”
This is a fault of the master, not of the pupil. The temperament of a cool black flame must be extraordinary to learn the techniques of angels, and though her temper and attitude are certainly so, Al Yisun bears too much of Holy Aesma to learn it properly. She would be better served in a more emotional style — or perhaps in taking a few centuries to meditate on her sins before attempting the Bright White Flame’s techniques.
Or she could be fated to use this style with lack of proper concentration and be given to a new style. After all, it is usually those unable to do a style properly that create a new style all of their own.
Assuming a 20 foot / 6 meter high wall, a 990 pound / 450kg stone angel, and a 6 foot 6 inch / 2 meter high demon, can anyone figure out the impact? maybe in terms of a sledge and a watermelon?
Do you know the gravity of Throne? Alison has never complained about it compared to Earth gravity, but she isn’t herself given the key in her head and may not notice a higher gravity. Or is everyone lighter on Throne, given it’s presumed mass from external views? Are you sure about the weight of the stone angel suit, and that it is perhaps more dense than it looks?
Students must understand the variables in order to make accurate calculations.
Let us not forget that angels are forged of ash, not stone. But we also know nothing of thickness as well, I highly doubt they are solid. All the same, quite the puzzle on this one.
“A noble birth this mine cesarean rising. I am cut from my world and comfort, made strong and hard by a new, but I do not thank my tragedy. It was cruel to make me so.”
I once heard of a culture who would use soft stones to share messages. Upon these stones were imprinted glyphs and sigils. Among the most sacred of these was the glyph “eph.” When a great comrade or foe was defeated in combat and killed, it is said they would invoke the name of this glyph ad infinitum. Here, as I witness the extinguishing of the Black Flame called “KILLBOSS,” I am inclined to incite this chant, and must therefore ask that all gathered in this digital forum depress “eph” to pay respects.
So wait, does that mean we were watching the training montage all along?
Does that mean White Chain’s name translated to “Dynamic Entry!” this whole time????
Exactly. And that’s brilliant.
The demon got Schwarzenegger’d
Mind. Blown.
It’s not a noun! It’s an imperative!
THY SLOPPY TECHNIQUE MAY ONLY BE CURED BY TRAINING. WE BEGIN AGAIN FROM THE BASICS.
Might I suggest training with various weapons and armor? Perhaps the Manual of Hands and Feet could address styles which incorporate the environment into their combat styles? Guess Alison’s going to be sitting in horse stance for the next eight hours then.

WHITE CHAIN RETURNING
I love Kill Boss’s reaction to the sudden appearance of White Chain: a white exclamation mark on a black background
It can be also interpreted as a vertically inverted “I” (itself a reference to the leader of the demonkind), which is not unlike his own physical position in the final panel.
Kill Boss has a nice ass! All those squats have paid off.
I was just thinking the same thing. Damn!
Please tell me this isn’t the end for KILL BOSS, he deserves better than being instantly bitch slapped to death.
That was more of an offhanded (offfooted?) curb stomp than a bitch slap.

82 White Chain Leaps From A Building To Kick Evil’s Smarmy Ass
Look ma, no palms!
This page made me laugh out loud, especially the bit about training montage.
I’m sorta expecting Allison to yell at 82 Whie Chain in the next one.
I’m reading this in Garnet’s voice.
Thank you. Now I’ll always hear 82WC in Garnet’s voice.
Yaaasss, same! Such a Garnet move.
Normally, I think of White Chain as the Monk from Monkey
Personally, I read it in the Earl of Lemongrab’s voice.
“Your technique is in an UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION! UNACCEPTABLE!
Oh NO D:
I, too, lament the impending loss of Kill Boss. It really is the best Devil name, hands down.
Ha ha, I guessed this was the training montage a few pages ago.
Fight crime, 20 reps, makes absolute sense as an angel’s method of training.

So Alison thought she was going to be fighting Delicious, who could fight White Chain evenly, but got flattened by KILLBOSS.
And now White Chain can apparently take out KILLBOSS effortlessly.
Power levels are bullshit!
She prepped for one fight and ended up being unprepared for the one she got.
Also, I still think she’d have beaten Killboss in time, she’s got the durability to tank and she just needed to figure out how to put on the hurt.

Delicious was killed by 6 Juggernaut.
*shifty eyes*
… I did not forget that.
Do children no longer learn the elementary game of strategy which teaches that those that you trample upon may in turn be able cut those that can smother you?
I would ask what the world is coming to, but one need only look around Throne to know.
The Rising King’s sloppy technique means that she would probably have been stompflattened by Delicious, as she was by the Boss Of Killing.
Expectations are oft different from reality.

Fights are easy, the master’s scorn is much more difficult to endure.
I remember my master’s scorn; what a horrid and exalted thing that was.
They’re not even angry. Just disappointed.
That’s so much harder to bear, really.
I love everything about this page. Also the comic, but especially this page.
To style upon the faces of yon enemies. That is how an angel enters the scene.
That “DOM” sound effect isn’t actually a sound effect, it’s actually what White Chain is actually saying.
“Uh, kinda busy fightin’ this chick here, mebbe introduce yourse-” *angelic backhand into a wall*
‘I’ll get to you in a second!’
Was this rampage of guild slaying justice part of Alison’s training and thus White Chain was observing her progress and is now disappointed at her failures. Or has the young king been sneaking out to rampage for justice and White Chain has shown up to chastise her for such reckless behavior.
Brilliant. Perfect. Abbadon crushes the doubters, once again.
I’m still laughing.

Impossible, only Jables and Kage could possibly hope to beat a devil in a rock-off and they have no reason to get into one
