Allison’s and Cio’s “oh shit are we in trouble?” expressions are a flashback to the early books. I think VG’s superpower is making mortals feel like naughty children.
Ok, I’m an idiot. I’m only putting together the Jesus references in this book now. I noticed something was up before, but it’s this page that rung the bell. I wasn’t expecting White Chain to be a Jesus metaphor here, which is why I was slow on the uptake.
White Chain has NAILS put into her a few pages back, while in a very religious-artwork pose with her arms extended, like Jesus is often depicted in religious iconography (I’m ex-Catholic, can’t you tell?)
Allison and Cio, her companions, DOUBT her. They DOUBT that her actions, which seem like certain death, are right. They fear for her safety. Jesus’ companions also doubted him.
Another angel pops up–a very old, very powerful angel (could he be considered an archangel? He’s not Prime, but…he’s certainly a powerful Messenger. He delivered a message to White Chain earlier, too…) and he tells them to HAVE FAITH, and that it’s a MIRACLE that White Chain has changed.
Most people here speculate White Chain’s going to bite it when she defeats Solomon David. But angels can resurrect. Like Jesus.
So it seems White Chain is going to die (for our sins) to protect Throne…if the Jesus metaphor is continued.
I think the one thing I love about this comic is that various angels randomly have art-history-symbolism in their designs or poses. This isn’t the first time I’ve noticed White Chain in such poses–she’s shown treading on a devil at the start of this book, which is religious art symbolism…grinding devils beneath your feet.
I’m not 100% sure I agree with your prediction, but that’s only because (if I remember right) Abaddon has false-flagged us before with magnificently in-depth excursions into symbolism that then turned out to end in a context where they were appropriate and yet had a very different final read.
The depth of symbolism and the syncretism of Abaddon’s artwork is one of the things which drew me very deeply into this story. SO MUCH is being implied and told in the backgrounds!
You know, we haven’t seen a teacup in a while now…
Man, having four arms would be so much fun. You could walk around all day doing a badass arm fold and still accomplish all your regular daily things, like making tea or giving people the finger.

Yes, that it was CIO of all people who was ready to jump into the arena and help White Chain fight Solomon David (who could probably take on White Chain AND Allicio at the same time without breaking a sweat) is really amazing. Those three have really become friends! A human an angel and a devil being that close must be a first!
Because of the cracks in the armor, you see. You know they know the cost of lies, and they know speaking straight and in accordance with law can sometimes cost even more.
Though it may seem impolite, the truth is that Vigilant Gaze did indeed wish to say “hello.” Unfortunately, as angels are quite set in their ways, and he had been doing it for several ages now, Viligant Gaze is unable to utter any greeting other than “ho there.”
“Angels, despite their size and their armored shell being extremely heavy, can move incredibly quietly when they need to. This incredible agility was purportedly granted to them by the god Koss in order to better apprehend evildoers, but angels most often use it to try and not disturb people when walking up and down stairs and on wood floors.”
This sounds like it came directly from Douglas Adams – a superpower granted by the gods to do mundane, but characteristic, things.
Anyone else thinking “PRAISE THE SUN” every time 10 Vigilant Gaze speaks?
\[T]/ Praise Yi-Sun! \[T]/
Imagine having to battle for armrest space with a creature with four arms.

Spurs bite in, stepped on toys
Jingle Jangle, travelling noise.
Pull the string and hear him, boys.
Vigilant Gaze accepts that White Chain is “she”.

Now isn’t this the most brilliant comment? I bow to your deep observations.

This is a world where everyone is literally Yisus having an argument with himself in Purgatory.
Anything is possible.
The trans allegory getting stronger again :3
Hm….I shall call him Vigilant Gaze for short.
10 Vigilant Gaze is such a sap and I love him. He gives off such Siegmeyer vibes
(and unlike Siegmeyer, he can kick some major ass!)
I suspect we’ve already seen what happens when a Demiurge cracks an angel’s shell. (2-6-112)
Man, having four arms would be so much fun. You could walk around all day doing a badass arm fold and still accomplish all your regular daily things, like making tea or giving people the finger.
And you would always be forewarned
Nice one. Thanks for not being explicit…
I like how Cio’s glasses straighten little by little each panel, but she never touches them.

I do hope that we get to see Devilskin Alicio again at some point.
The secret was trans rights all along
That look of incredulity from Cio when talking about their fusion is delicious.
Alison: “We were, like… fused into a big woman at the time.”
Cio: “Hell yeah we were! And in front of an entire stadium of strangers too!”
Yessss!
I love that he calls her “she”
I love that Cio was ready to dive into the ring for her
I love that Allison has faith in her

All I wanna do
is see you turn into
a giant woman
A GIANT WOMAN!
Funny, I just realized it’s much easier to trust an angel who lies.
Because of the cracks in the armor, you see. You know they know the cost of lies, and they know speaking straight and in accordance with law can sometimes cost even more.
One does try never to disturb people when walking up and down stairs.
That’s one vigilant looking gaze in the last panel.
I love angel grandpa
10 Vigilant Gaze seems like a cool dude.

Comment on the mouseover text:
