BREAKER OF INFINITIES 1-8
Chapter: 1
“There are among men who vie for the Crown of the World men who cultivate evil Atum, who break the meridians and suck out the marrow of other men, who participate in blood alchemy and all kinds of dark and malicious alignments.
These men are the most powerful among immortals, but they are not to be envied. They are piteous, broken things that must be destroyed with exceeding force whenever they crawl out of their stinking holes. If one were to sit upon the Great Chariot of the Red City, it would be a most terrible thing indeed.”
– Six Purities Path manuscript, circa 250 S.C.
More than just a nasty boy
King of Emotional Vampire Sordplay
And she is very bouncy.
I’m getting some serious Pete White vibes off him
A nasty man.
I think he likes Alison apart from his ambitions. At the end of the day she’s another upstart who upended the established prophecy and rose to the heights of power like he did. I think part of him is deeply amused by that. She’s not the ‘favored child’ anymore than he was.
I also wonder if the soul fragment exchange gave Incubus some of Alison’s humanity.
Entirely possible, and a intriguing possibility. Though part of him has to be worried what happen if Jaggy squishes her and takes the master key for himself. If that happened he could squish them all without much effort.
Whatever his motives, he speaks truth.
Alice needs to level up before she can end this book.
I know a good tech if Incubus wants those varicose veins looked at.
Potassium-salts to cut fast really make ’em pop.
They used to treating millenia old immortals?
You’ll have to pardon him, as he bursts into vein.
Sensible advice from Incubus.
Downright friendly.
I know we’ve all been waiting for his inevitable heel turn but… he’s never *not* been friendly. Misguided, yes. And obviously the kind of guy whose path leads to ruin.
But he strikes me kind of like the drug addict who tries to get other people to use his drugs. Not because he’s evil, or because it’ll profit him — but because he thinks his drugs are just so damn great that he wants everyone to try it.
I kind of wonder if this is “Demon flips the cart” to be honest.
Eh, or he could just want her to leave so that she doesn’t witness him assisting Jagganoth to takeout Solomon David, so he can continue to manipulate her more later.
I’m calling it now – Incubus is going to get close to killing Jagganoth, and then Maya is going to ruin it for everyone because she’s actually not the hero that everyone assumes she is.
(Also it’s totally going to come out that Incubus was Meti’s favorite and Maya was just a hanger-on who read more into Meti’s lessons than were intended)
I love that reading. I don’t want to believe it, but there is at least a bit evidence to support that theory, and that would be sick if it did happen.
seeker-of-thrones-4-29 and 4-30 might seem to hint at that being a possibility.
Heck, If you look at any Meti/Maya flashback, and ignore the things Maya says about what everything “really” means, it seems pretty obvious to me.
Meti refused to teach Maya, but not incubus. Incubus followed Meti’s orders, but not Maya. Incubus didn’t balk at the harsh truth of sword law, but Maya did.
I just want to find out what really happened when Meti was killed. We’ve only heard from Maya, but haven’t seen a flashback.
It’s entirely possible Meti wanted Incubus to kill her, in the final lesson sense. Or perhaps so that she could no longer poison Maya with the truths of the sword.
It also seems possible Incubus became a demiurge and keybearer because he and Meti didn’t want that for Maya. Being a demiurge seems pretty… awful, to be honest. None of the tyrants seem to have made significant progress in royalty save maybe Jagganoth. And the great students of Royalty, and even YISUN and Aesma, are rarely ever shown actually ruling things. Solomon in particular seems eager to return to pursuing Royalty.
Given Jagganoth’s rage, it seems possible Metatron was behind the Demiurge war — Not just because the demiurges were obstacles to his plans, but because demiurges may need constant contact with peers to grow and learn, and the Seven Part World has isolated them, depriving them of that opportunity.
If that’s true, it begs the question of why Meti isolated HERSELF, and refused to train any but the most obedient of her future rivals. But given Meti’s take on swordplay, it seems possible that for her, pursuit of Royalty, and the acts said pursuit compelled her to perform, was miserable for her.
Meti also wanted to be fed to the dogs if/when she died… and Incubus fed her to the dogs, exactly as she wished.
I had always understood that as “He killed her, then had the audacity to still respect her”.
For Meti, the only sin greater than swinging a sword would be to teach someone to swing a sword.
It’s very unlikely but I would find it totally hilarious
Could be. Remember, maya hates him for killing Meti and feeding her body to the dogs, but that’s what Meti said she wanted. Perhaps Incubus understood her better than Maya ever did?
Also, blood magic? So that’s what he was doing in that pit! Looks like he’s hulking out now, or at least trying to. Can’t wait to see who he’s going to help.
It seems very plausible. I mean Meti wasn’t exactly out enjoying her golden years; she was living in a barrel. Doesn’t seem like she would be the type to care about dying; Heck being killed by one of her students could even be a preference. Maya seems to believe that SHE was the only student Meti truly intended to teach, but that seems a pretty self-absorbed perspective. Like it could be that Meti really does not care what a swordsman uses their skills for, and Maya simply believes she was a more moral person than that… Heck Maya could even be just as mad/delusional as any of the other kings; afterall, its believed did ultimately claim a key for herself and became one of the victors of the universal war before being usurped by inky.
Nah Maya is the apprentice “I am Meti, of no house but myself. In my 108th year I am surrounded by fools. My compatriots cling obsessively to their destiny, and my only apprentice is an idiot speck of a girl with more talent for eating than skill with the blade. Therefore I have decided to die drowning in the boiling gore of my enemies, of which there are many.” – Meti’s sword manual
Abaddon has stated from the very beginning that Maya is an antagonist.
When was that?
Alt text of her first appearance, for starters.
Maya is the end boss.
Her first appearance, at the noodle stand in 2-34 when she asks Allison what she thinks about death, has no such reference. Are you referring to some other appearance?
Like at the cover image for this book. Isn’t that Maya’s hairpin that Allison is using as her sigil on the uniform?
The sigil is Zoss’ symbol, as on his throne and in the halo that his/Allison’s key generates. One has wondered about Maya’s using of the symbol for her hairpin and its significance, and why she often takes it out when about to let loose with the Maybe Sword. And why also (it seems) she voluntarily gave up her key to Incubus.
Is she the only demiurge Zoss trusted, or perhaps of a similar mindset and opinion? – ‘murder the Gods and topple their thrones’ after all. Is she somehow acting as an agent of Zoss under the radar now, having given up her own throne? And is she an habitual drunk, or just enough to appear so? Maya, The Destroyer, is as yet still an enigma.
Wait.. “Maya the Destroyer”? Take into account that there may be a hidden meaning here: The religious concept of maya in Hinduism, referring to: illusion, magic, “that which covers the real”, wealth or treasure, or a reference to Lakshmi (a goddess of wealth and beauty).
So yes, I could see her as a hidden agent, or someone deluded, or someone possessing a real treasure that cannot be measured… or any/all of these.
The sigil is older than Dave or Maya, and they each co-opt it as their own for different reasons.
It means “Division,” and is interpreted as a key, a tuning for, or a power switch.
The fact that Maya seems to be able to use her hairpin as a substitute Key suggests she has a deeper understanding of it’s meaning than Dave.
The biggest piece of evidence against this is that Meti herself said she only has one apprentice using she/her pronouns and says she’d have been a better noodle vendor than a swordswoman.
Which is pretty circumstantial evidence for proving it was Maya that is the apprentice mentioned in the writings. Have we ever actually had anything straight up confirming from an unbiased source that the blurbs we have seen are about Maya? After all, we spent a long time thinking Meti had one student only to learn she had two. Who is to say she didn’t have a 3rd student who came before either the ones we know who she originally intended to be her only one and that book was just written before she took more? Maybe Maya is just lying/deluded and found that book and started telling everyone it was totally proof she was the only real apprentice Meti had and Incubus was just her Wimp Lo that she trained wrong as a joke without truly considering him a student.
The KSBD tumblr confirms that Meti wrote her pamphlet for Maya.
Incubus is the sort that takes delight in the *result* of cutting, not the *act* of cutting; Meti had some harsh words for that sort of person. Sure, he learned really quickly how to cut, but within the context of the rest of her sword manual that’s like someone saying they’re good at a relaxation exercise because they pushed and strained to get a lot of points but didn’t actually relax.
I’m hoping we’ll get a twist where Maya is there to *help* Incubus because he’s her best friend. He did a lot of shitty things but she believes that he’s just trying to do his best to make things better than they would be. He needs help and she’s finally caught up with him when he needs it most.
Doesn’t Maya wish, explicitly, to brutally murder him due to what he did to Meti?
Yeah. She’s explicitly *not* here to be buddies with Incubus.
I thought that was obvious?
After a very casual observation, “Not being there” does indeed seem an excellent idea.
Incubus has a very bad rep, in addition to being an horrible despoiling Demiurge, but ironically he’s probably been one of the most helpful influence on Allison.
I look forward to discovering who’s going to be targetted by that pretty sword.
Fool, Incubus may seem to be giving friendly words, but it is clear as day that this is a ruse. A distraction. His sensibile advice serves Incubus more than anyone else.
Allison is a threat to his betrayal of the seven-part-pact, and her presence could tip the scales against him and Jagganoth. For in truth, he seeks to slay them along the way to Metatron. Not only does he want Allison out of the picture so that she may not tip the scales, but he wishes to keep her ignorant of his betrayal of the demiurges.
Half true. Allison is truly out of her depth, and Incubus believes she will be but a fly should she remain. But her presence is still a threat. Should Jagganoth and Incubus annihilate the Seven Part Pact, Allison will be his only tool to strike down the Red God.
This was his plan before Jagganoth’s pre-emptive strike, however. I feel his plan is changing.
cum pumping through his veins. disgusting
That sure is a sentence to say.
InCUMbus IS the sin of lust out of The Seven.
Castration in the sky your penis will fly
Castrate in the sky
And your member will fly,
Thats bad foreplay.
When the sky looks all wrong
With the presence of schlong,
That’s bad foreplay.
To the melody of “That’s amore”?
Ah, stealing donation’s from the cum-tsar’s trust, are we?
A splash of Cum to seal the deal
All consuming lord of Cum
Dick, Heir of the Cum throne
Kill The Gods And Cut Off Their Junk
Never had I believed more violent are the words of mortals than now.
ADSJHGGHKJH
This comment proves that when Meti said “words are too soft an instrument to smash a man’s skull” she was wrong.
Well said
Ah, to be young and feel the cum pump through my own veins once again. The Springtime of youth is too fleeting.
Or better yet, have GOLD pump through your veins. Truly a godlike feeling.
What the FUCK possessed you too say that when by all that is holy you could of just not.
/s
you mean yummy right? that’s like a two for one combo
Oh hey, right, Inky’s pretty good at swords, too.
For as much as his mastery of swords, as well as the mastery of Maya and Meti, we know nothing of Juggernaut’s mastery. My first instinct is to say that a swordsman whose sword can be caught like that is not worth the blade, but I know little about combat, truly. Perhaps it is the divinity that makes that a viable move.
I think the threat of an explosion if the sword is caught is a deterrent to those who wish to be unexploded
It can be a difficult thing to slice a man in half especially if that man is a master of space and time.
I suspect that it gets easier if the man is not expecting the attack. I think Solomon is so OP that he could sit comfortably in the core of a star, if he has time to conjure a nice bubble of space-time; just needs more ice in his drink. But would an unseen sword-thrust kill him, or would his flame just restore his body?
He dragged two stars to this world to be his suns. Presumably by hand. Sitting in the core of one shouldn’t even be a feat.
When I slice a man in half, I try yo go side to side rather than top to bottom. It’s marginally less messy.
Diagonal.
It’s less about power than control.
I think Jagganoth is less of a sword-guy and more of a chess-guy. He’s not cutting. He’s making tactical sword strokes that force Solomon David to do exactly what Jagganoth wants him to do. His actions are perfect, but they are perfect in their meticulousness, not their artfulness. Like little pieces all falling into place.
Jagganoth is described as a master of the vorpal blade, whatever jabberwock that means.
Nothing’s gone Snicker-Snack so far so I think we’re safe.
Evidence would suggest it involves exploding sword strikes as oppossed to the clean cuts made by Maya’s style.
and at headbutting stuff. That’s what the three studs in his forehead are all about – he’s a Master of the “Head of John” martial art style.
Incubus is a TERRIBLE swordsman. He is, however, quite good at using swords to kill and maim. It’s kind of like the difference between a truly skilled Bureaucrat and some guy who’s really good at stamping and signing large quantities of paper at high speeds. Not to say the latter isn’t USEFUL in certain situations, but to conflate them with the former is very insulting to precisely the sort of people you least want to offend.
Why yes I am. And that is IRL true both as a nickname and as a skill.
wow! gross
LOOKING PRETTY UHHHHH HEALTHY THERE, INCUBUS
LOOKING PRETTY GREAT
He is perfectly healthy
look at all those organs
some of them are even his!
VERY HANDSOMELY INTEGRATED, YOU CAN’T TELL THEY WERE EVER GRAFTED ON
ALSO HIS ONE EYE IS DEFINITELY NOT MELTING OR ANYTHING, BY GUM
He’s simply entering a warp-spasm, meaning either it’s sinking into his face or it’s about to pop out.
Looks like he got that Head Pigeon infestation cleared out as well!
More organs means more demiurge.
I apologize, BOSS, but apocalypses are above my paygrade. You aren’t getting any more news from Rayuba from here on out–and no, I don’t think we’re getting paid for this stupid gamble with the gods.
…and honestly, given how handy a talent like being able to travel the King’s Road in a minute or less is, I think I deserve a raise?
Old Dalinar pulled off a Last Clap eh? Good for him.
it makes me pretty happy to see that reference.
Regardless, it’s a stupid maneuver that usually fails.
Probably a better bet when you can effectively slow time.
But what’s this? Here comes Sadeas with a folding chair!
the crossover content we didn’t know we needed
Glad to see i wasn’t the only one thinking it
Now, this is a crossover that we need. As someone who is reading through the Stormlight Archive as we speak and this comic, this just stokes my imagination.
So happy to see this reference. I’m still reading Oathbringer as I try to finish before RoW arrives.
Always loved how nonchalantly zahel says that.
Given how old Vasher/Zahel is, he’s probably seen a hundred people succeed at such a maneuver and ten thousand others fail.
A warning from Incubus? Or is it a plan to get her out of the picture?
I know this sounds weird, but… I think Incubus has been legitimately trying to help this whole time.
I agree. By and large his advice has been genuine. The issue is the only help he can offer is from the path he chose to walk, a path which has heavily been implied by the story to have been the wrong one.
Incubus would not be where he is if the wrong path was not the only path he knew…
The only path you know is the only path that is. Right or wrong is irrelevant…
He considers her the true heir. I wonder if he expects her to rule once he’s finished his vengeance on the other Demiurges. He doesn’t seem to want to rule, just be respected.
Incubus can’t have his Key of Kings accidentally falling to Jagganoth now can he?
Salami Dave just used Heavenly Guardian Defense. Didn’t know he was a Dawn Caste.
I mean, he’s had long enough that he probably poured some XP into melee just because; there’s only so many charms in the Ki Rata tree, after all.
He has Solar style certainly, though he dipped into Evasion.
Yeah, he didn’t shirk his Charm acquisition.
Most likely a Dawn, but a case could be made for Zenith too.
I’m curious as to what all y’all are refrencing
A tabletop roleplaying game called “Exalted.”
A somewhat clunky system with some phenomenal power scaling. KSBD has got a real similar feeling to its setting.
Exalted is indeed clunky, and hard to run.
And I love everything of it.
Abbadon is giving us an Exalted campaign done right.
Zenith/Dawn hybrid by Charms for sure. Could be either for Caste.
Zenith, I think. A Dawn specializes in many forms of combat, but we’ve only seen the one from Solomon.
Allison – Solar, Eclipse caste
Zoss – Solar, Eclipse caste
Solomon – Solar, Zenith caste
Jagganoth – Infernal, Slayer caste (or Solar Akuma, Dawn caste)
Metis – Abyssal, Daybreak caste (or Deathlord, formerly Twilight caste)
Mottom – Sidereal, Chosen of Secrets?
Incubus – Infernal, Fiend caste? He’s definitely a master of Infernal Monster style
Gog Agog – Non-human, but if she were then probably Lunar Chimera.
Mammon – Non-human
When Lust is giving you an order NOT to dive in, you best listen up.
HAS SCIENCE GONE TOO FAR?
Not yet. We need to wait to see if the tests show if this has given me a bone, if yes then maybe science has gone to far.
“this is gonna be rad as hell to watch so no thank you”
A Questionable Content reference?
Unusual…
Hey Jeph bring Sara back!
RUN, COWARD
BEWARE, I LIVE
Sinistar scared the crap out of me when I was a little kid. I would be walking past it in the arcade and out if nowhere it would talk. Like. That.
I HUNGER!
Incubus sword hilt has the sign from the Middle Army, but…is there something wrong with the sword handle ?
Half the crossguard has snapped off. In the real life, that’d make a fair few guards unfeasible and might affect the structural integrity of the crossguard as a whole. Here though, using a regular sword to guard against the attacks going on here is probably a Bad Idea anyway, so it’s prooooooooobably fine.
Or if you meant the way he’s holding it, the grip has cooties, touching it would be gross.
There’s a better picture of the sword in seeker-of-thrones-4-27, I’m not sure if the crossguard is damaged or meant to be like that though.
Also it looks like a cane. The sword is his crutch and he holds it tightly. Beware the swordsman who carries no blade… So what about one who can’t walk without it?
he uses it as a cane. a missing crossguard arm makes it resemble one more.
Also, it makes it a foil to Maya’s Maybe-Sword.
One with a broken blade, and one with a broken guard.
I wouldn’t be surprised to discover they were both broken in their last match.
I’m getting some serious Zha’ha’dum vibes from Incubus there at the end.
Jump.
Jump. NOW.
Yes. She barely knows Who She Is or What Shea Wants, so Allisson, how are you ever going to bloom into the epiphany that will explain your purpose, Why Are You Here?
Hrmm… I hope Ali just got a little dirt in her eye there. Losing it that way would be a bit of a let down in our story. Right up there with losing an eye from a cat scratch or something, right Nick?
Swords draw loudly.
They’re buried all around me.
Face towards enemy.
incubus be swole but at what cost…..
Wouldn’t have thought Incubus would want to help Allison in any way after seeing that Zoss’s phantom is keeping an eye on her, but I suppose even a monster can feel something like sentimentality.
we don’t know the extent of Incubus schemes, but he knows he can’t ally forever with someone bent on destroying everything, as he’s part of that everything. Allison or her key might be his escape.
Allison has the master key and he’s been grooming her for over a year. She very likely has a larger role to play in his schemes and he needs her to live long enough to do what he wants her to do… Frankly i think he expected Jaggy to take out the other kings and that she would in turn stop Jaggy
Does anyone find it odd that Jagganoth seems to prefer assembling the word of God from the Seven than seizing it by force from Allison? Surely the latter would be supremely easier. Most of the Seven seem to have recognized her as the True Heir now. Yet they harbor few wicked designs on her. Even Jagganoth, the only one apparently interested in obtaining the Inerrant Word.
Maybe they can’t now wield the Master Key, being too far gone into their own aspects? Maybe they need Allison to wield it for them?
An interesting thought. Are artifacts which attune the user to God fungible in nature?
Mottom seemed to have no interest in taking the master Key from Allison when she had the chance. Mottom didn’t state that she couldn’t take Allison’s key, instead saying that doing so would be a bad idea.
Striking at Allison instead of his foes would leave a gap in his guard – and considering what he just did to Solomon’s city, any such hole would prove *extremely* painful for Jagganoth. It does not matter if you seize the throne if you are run through as soon as you sit upon it.
Exept he’s invincible, remember? That’s half his shtick, they can’t hurt him.
But apparently the other Six have a plan to lock him forever outside of Creation, so said SD himself.
Being utterly indesctructible is not so fun if you get locked in an unbreakable prison until the end of Time itself (or Zoss’ next rewind, as it may).
Jag can’t afford to discover first hand whether that plan is bullshit or not.
In my line of work, “invincible” means “nobody has put in the time and effort to kill them”. Do not mistake the musings of scholars for truth.
Right… Inky being helpful. Because Incubus wants Jagnoth to wreck the other Demiurges… but he’s also betting on Alison being able to bet Jagganoth (hell, the pretty much straight up says that to Jaggers during their meeting.
So… that might be part of his anger earlier- Jaggnoth attacked before he had time to make Alison ready, and in particular attacked a place where Incubus’s insurance policy was hanging out.

yo Abbadon, this is bad spam
True, his abs are beyond her comprehension.
