Not sure about Allison’s mood in the last panel. She seems slightly slumped and sad, like the whole Zaid episode is over and she never did get to talk it out with him and wrap things up. But it’s the only panel showing her aura, so she must also feel empowered.
Poor Zaid…he just got his first real Earthling contact after MORE THAN A YEAR of being a prisoner on this alien world, and now he’s just being dragged apart from her again. Not only is she his girlfriend (sort of, as far as he knows), she’s the only damn person in this madhouse he can possibly relate to, AND she’s his ticket home (though he might not know that, exactly). We know basically nothing about this guy, and I really think Allison’s making the right choice here as a heroine, but still my heart hurts for him…
And for goodness sakes, now that I’ve read the comments of all you people being like “haha he’s such a self-centered douche” – aside from being rather shockingly insensitive, you seem to show a poor understanding of applied semantics. The act of “finding” does not, in this context, imply active rescuing or even searching. It means that after more than a year of wondering where she was, she suddenly appeared – thus, he “found her”. For example: if you’re looking for your lost cat and someone comes up and gives it to you, when you get home with the cat in your arms do you say “I found the cat!” or “Some other guy found the cat!”? Obviously the former, because even though the latter is technically correct, the purpose of your sentence is not to convey who did the work of finding the cat, but merely to convey that the cat has been found and restored to its original place with you. And no, that’s not to imply that Zaid owns Allison like a pet. It’s just an analogy to explain the terms “lost” and “found”, you guys. And I’m not even trying to be pedantic, this is just the meaning that I immediately understood on my first reading of the page.
Uh, I don’t think he is a douche, but if a man in a well is finally pulled out by a team of specialists and he says “Wow, it was hard finding you guys!”, I’d be worried about their mental health. It’s not only about who finds who, it’s about who has been the active subject. Zaid has been trapped, under lock and key, and Allison has not. She was the one looking. She was the active subject.
Why cling on this? I seriously believe he can be a perfectly nice guy, but so far I can only see in his past relief when he meets Allison and distress when he is taken away from her. In both cases, he is a passive piece on the board and, as far as I can see, he is being egotistical (which I can understand, since he has been a powerless victim for all the story), but his first appearance left a powerful impression on me: he is at the very least a creep at the beginning of the comic, and I still have to see him on a more mature light… because he has not had the chance to show that character progression properly.
In the meantime, I will make fun of how awkward the phrasing is, because I have never heard it from a female princess in distress and I find it perfectly fitting for a self-absorbed gender-flipped version of it. It is funny! Even if, in character, I might say exactly the same thing… and I would still say, on retrospect, that I was being a tad self-absorbed about it.
… and then Allison would hug me and say, no, you weren’t, I understand what you meant. And I would cry. And THAT, I’d call development.
Is it possible to be insensitive towards a fictional character that has no feelings to hurt? Or do we need a lengthy discourse on the meaning of the word insensitive? At least we can all agree on the meaning of the word douche.
I might be wrong, but… It is possible for readers to feel another is being insensitive if the character resonates with them, even if nobody mentions them directly in doing so.
I was trying to think of a theme song for this moment, before the Triple Threat Trio take the plunge back into the fray….
Its like they’re standing on the lip of a volcano
– and this is the brief pause before charging down into the fire…
Maybe I’m looking in the wrong place and this is more of a classical orchestral moment. Seems to me that we haven’t arrived at the Carmina Burana : O Fortuna movement just yet….that would be good one to use when the legions of militant angels wielding forgotten divine weapons tear open the heavens and begin their plunge onto the field…
Haha, it seems Zaid still doesn’t understand that it was Allison who found him, and it is Allisson who will need now have to fight for all of the universes lives than him. Well at least Zaid will be able to tell his future kids he will get with some naive new college girl that he saved the universes in his story take.
Not only Zaid is going to be unhappy, methinks Incubus has just had a spanner thrown into the works. He wanted her gone for a reason and that reason wasn’t altruism.
He likes her enough to make her stronger, though it’s suggested that he might try to steal her power, since the last time he was kicked out he hasn’t been much of a threat.
I saw people noting above that Allison seems to be fulfilling a bit of the prophecy here: about the Rising King being flanked by a white flame and a black flame.
Interestingly, given the ambiguity which has haunted them throughout the comic, the same could be said of Zaid at this point. Princess and the Square one being a black flame and a white one respectively (although neither is flanking Zaid at the moment).
You know? When all is said and done, and the outcome of this War is decided… I honestly wouldn’t mind if this comic became just a fun slice of life where Allison and her friends live together and use Multiversal Kung Fu to solve everyday problems. Though, I might just want to see more interactions between Princess and the others.
As much as I appreciate the consistency in having Allison just wearing one shoe for a last little while… as a woman, let me tell you: when one of your heels breaks or comes off, the first thing you do is kick off your other shoe. It’s pretty damned hard to run around with just one heel (no matter how low the heel is).
Zaid sits in one place for ages.
Alison goes on a quest to multiple worlds, transforms herself mentally and physically, and nearly dies several times as she hefts the weight of destiny upon her shoulders and uses it to batter down the barriers in her path.
She finally arrives at her goal, her wayward paramour imprisoned in the palace of an unassailable dictator.
Zaid: “Oh there you are. Found you.”
Nah I’m sure he’s just bummed they just got back together and are so swiftly to be parted. He doesn’t seem a bad fellow honestly, just a bit of a prat. (I mean if it were an option, I’d have spent the time among some of the most powerful beings in the universe, trying to learn how to do cool shit, but that’s just me.)
The whole time he was conscious he was firmly under SD’s control, and frankly, Dave doesn’t seem the guy who would let a potentially dangerous prisoner learn anything that could make him stronger.
I know that it is probably just due to the lighting but is that a sea of blood?
Probably not – not that blood from wounds stains “Square One’s” toga, but the liquid in the sea does not.
Reflection of the red sky.
She should really toss that shoe.

I think it’s beautifully done to allow you to read from it what you will.
To me, it is reminiscent of a sailor getting one last look at their loved ones waving from the pier as the ship sails to war.
It is a liminal moment, a transition. One self for the family, then a very different one for the enemy and the comrades-in-arms.
Allison will turn, ready for the ultimate struggle and the violence it requires.
Beautifully put. Thank you.
There is a symbolic symmetry in this grouping that undoubtedly signifies.
An angel and a demon, each large, boisterous and and stoic, each carrying a physically weak human from danger.
An angel and a demon, each more slender and dangerous than most, standing side by side with Allison.
Something great, momentous and violent is happening.
I like where your head is. Good catch.
Plot twist – Jagganoth draws first drop of blood from Salami Dave. Jagganoth wins the tournament. What would Jagganoth wish for anyway?
Jagganoth can’t be in the tournament, he didn’t fill out the forms!

Think of that what you will.
All hail the Square One
people dont like zaid i guess

Vig knows its about to go down so he’s 1) rushing to get Nyave to safety and 2) hurrying back to help kick some ass.
everyone likes square angel
no one likes zaid
Haha yeah, HE just found HER.

subtle Cinderella reference
… Good catch.
Possibly, but Cinderella’s prince was not a hapless douchebag.
Not only Zaid is going to be unhappy, methinks Incubus has just had a spanner thrown into the works. He wanted her gone for a reason and that reason wasn’t altruism.
Considering his origin story, I think Inkyboy may have a crumb or two of sympathy for Allison. Not that it would stop him from seizing her key.
He likes her enough to make her stronger, though it’s suggested that he might try to steal her power, since the last time he was kicked out he hasn’t been much of a threat.

… everything is proceeding according to the scenario.
Just according to keikaku.
Translator’s note: keikaku means plan.

Same here
Really looking forward to a triple-fusion Giant Woman kicking all ass.
All I want to be, is someone who gets to see, that.

Perhaps it’s easier when you’re mostly invulnerable thanks to a Key in your forehead?
Vigilant Gaze, the stone that skips himself.
Won’t see them again until the finale, i suppose.
I very much hope i’m wrong about this
