Finally someone using all that magic and tech for regeneration and healing rather than mass murder !
Also , what bugs me for long time : we had episode where Cio taught Allison how to make matter just by using magic. Edible plums . So actual living tissue , even if plant one. Logically this means creating muscle and bone , regrowing limbs could be as fast. Especially for bearer of key. Why no one even mentions medical implications of “magic can create living tissue” ? Its such obvious thing with such obvious need in it..
To quote Meti Ten Ryo: “Behold! The awesome fires of God. The limitless power of pure creation itself. Look carefully! Observe how it is used for the same purpose a man might use an especially sharp rock.”
In general, mastering the healing arts is seen as a much less valuable skill in a society who focuses on REACHING HEAVEN THROUGH VIOLENCE
…and because doing magical martial arts is ‘cool’, I’ve heard.
> doing magical martial arts is ‘cool’, I’ve heard.
Heh. I just can imagine it : ” Magical martial arts is where it at ! All cool kids do that ! What ? Studying healing and stuff ? This is for nerds ! Bleh. “
I’m all with people who thinks this is just some mind kind type of conversation like Allison had with Incubus before, but this time Jadis is doing the talking.
Or we see some past loop where Allison failed being presented here from Jadis memory which Allison had to forget since maybe it’s not the first time she got the key as wheels turned.
But if this is real and indeed some longer time passed to fix her it would be rather disappointing cause it would make hurting her before and killing Cio for that basically pointless.
Hm. I know you don’t get to where Jadis is without there being something dark beating at the heart of you, so I don’t say this as a blanket argument that “Boy, Jadis seems like a sweetheart” but if this is who she once was it’s very compelling that the first thing we really hear from her is a question inquiring about another’s pain. I’m sure we’ll learn more but even if it is done entirely for the utility of a doctor assessing their patient – they could have asked other questions, disorientating questions but went with the one that assesses the patient’s suffering first. That’s still – disarming.
If this is a construct/projection, it is made more interesting by the fact that Jadis, in present time irl, is in a state of knowing all, paralysed and entombed, simply wishing to die. Suggesting she would constantly feel a great deal of pain.
I think an Icarus who flew too high and then spent the rest of existence on fire falling would be a very tragic figure indeed. (Mind you I’m sure she’s got a body count to temper the sympathy…)
IM SO GLAD WE’RE BACK IVE WAITED SO LONG SOMEONE PLEASE SHOW ME A SWORD IVE LONG SINCE RUN OUT OF STICKS WITH WHICH TO SWING AROUND AND MAKE SWOOSHING SOUNDS
also it looks like Jaggy shattered Jadis’ prison. good, she might be the only meaningful counter to him among the demiurges. Jag *deduced* the cycle, Jadis got to actually see it. man I’m so excited to see what’s coming
the arm regrown, thin and weak
the hair grown out, long and white
an eye – unseen open.
We saw the right eye closed a few pages ago, but open, we only see the left. Either it’s still gone or we got some hard core mythic shit, and it’s Different. I am eager but patiently waiting to see <3
Huh… the phsical lay out (Angled support beams plus gaps, bed in middle of oversized rooms), story beat (waking up with a mysterious benefactor(?), and decor (objects arranged on tables etc) remind me of a scene from another comic (all night Laundry. Great fun).
Like the actual content is WAY different, but the falling togeather of elements just happens to hit like 4 of the same notes in a really cool way.
Also: Jadis has A LOT of books. Love it. Very cool place.
You know, since the final pages of previous chapter I sort of expect Jadis to turn out somewhat like Tattletale from “Worm”, just on divine scale. If this is the case, I’ll weep from joy.
P.S. “Also: Jadis has A LOT of books. Love it. Very cool place.” Pr. Always an Eterninty Later, I second you.
Fun fact I recently learned from steveioe: When the ER asks you to rate your pain from 1 to 10, the number itself doesn’t matter. They just want to know if their treatments are making you better… or worse.
The mouse-over text is a bit bleak. I wonder if this is Allison’s thought on waking (continuation from panel 2), or something that Jadis will come out with when she switches from friendly concern to withering criticism?
42 Fragments the Universe Beyond All Reintegration
Also … did Allison _ask_ for this level of healing, including loss of her hard-won scars? I’d hoped that Jadis might be the one demiurge who doesn’t remake people against their will, but this feels a bit unilateral.
Lord Mammon is dead, and I have come to accept that. No other being is worthy of worship, and any who claim His seat (which shall ever be vacant) are blasphemers of the utmost order.
But Jadis, villainous defiler of the dead Creation she is, has earned a measure of my respect anyway, for it seems even she respects the Count – even pain can be given a number, and thus given a price.

“I feel pain everywhere”
“Oh… so just a four, then.”
That’s a very soft expression. It says a lot about a character. Good stuff.

“zero out of ten, would not recommend”
Circumstances notwithstanding that is a great view to wake up to in the morning.
Jadis obv. speaking with Allison in a mental construct ..

Her face disturbs me.
Unless hair extensions were part of the healing process… she was there for a loooong while…
