Is Incubus not getting it? It was Meti’s last lesson, forcing Maya to strike with all her heart, with no thought. It was Meti’s attempt, hopefully successful, to turn Maya into a proper successor. Or maybe he’s just trying to rattle him.
What is she drinking and why would Incubus let her do it?
I love the out-of-panel view showing how small they are on the face of an angel.
Maya releases the flask like Ransom throwing away the sheath of his sword. A gesture of detachment from material things. This is proper behavior, at the outset of a duel that must end with one participant’s death – perhaps both.
Meti was Royalty, like Hansa in the stories. She must have known the cause of her death and kept it close to her, as Hansa did with his pipe. She didn’t usually take apprentices, right?
102 Public Loitering Shall Not Be Permitted Past The 20th Hour
i started reading this like 3 days ago and its one of the best experiences ive had in a while, ill probably have to wait another year before the project is finished but its well worth it,
The art of dramatically discarding your jacket into the whipping wind is one taught across the multiverse but there are few who ever completely master it.
Ever the fool, Incubus believed his one lie greater than Maya’s simply because it was personal to him. Truly the only question is whether Maya and Allison shall reconcile after they cast Incubus’ head into the darkness beneath throne, where it shall join a bound jagganoth for all eternity! Truly a fitting end for gods most perfect butcher and gods most perfect villain, for one to forever be at the others throat far, far from the shining light of YISUN evermore!
Truly telling as well, that when backed into a corner, the bloodletting king is finally forced to shed his own! The teeming hordes scream in joy at every drop spilt, whether it be a drop shed from Incubus or in Incubus name, in the eyes of the Multiplicity it is a drop well shed! Did this whelp too think that death would not find him when his time came? Did he think simply because he made his skull impossible for a man or god to split, that it would not simply be destroyed by the infinite black fires of YIS herself?
Hark! Incubus reveals himself yet again to be the weakest and most cowardly demiurge! Using secrets and lies as mere blackmail in a world where secrets and lies are the language of god known as YISUN! He sheds his own blood to create weapons while using his final breaths to taunt a vagrant knight! Pathetic! Amusing! Damning! The band of fools, the soldiers of the republic, the allied resistance forces, the rising king and her allies, and even the gods themselves call for the demise of Incubus! Truly it is not a question of whether the rising king shall take the head of Incubus but merely when and how she shall do it! We for one think she should do whatever comes naturally to her, after all she has lost plenty of her own comrades to the sanguimancers machinations, so she likely has many more deliciously violent and universally just actions she could unleash upon Incubus that would bring nothing but cheers! Then even if her rage eventually be deemed cruel and unjust, truly who will come to the aid of a prince who raised an army of faceless butcher-kings? Where are the allies of the one who would lead the forces of the world-ender against all of creation when in his sheer foolish pride and arrogance, he has allowed many of his so-called advisors and generals to be slain? Has he wept or even so much as given a passing thought to those who have died in defense of him? Nay, say we! For Incubus is a hateful god, and hateful gods will inevitably cull their own worshippers in the end!
The birds are singing as we speak… how delightful! Perhaps they too sing of the incoming demise of the one called Incubus~
…You must be so hot that even if your enemy should strike your head off, you shall continue to decapitate ten more men. Your boiling blood must spring forth from your neck and mutilate the survivors!
You know, it occurs to me that one of the examples of Incubus’ “exceptionally poor swordsmanship” is being unable to kill Maya with a decapitating blow. Maya has also failed to kill Incubus this way.
Granted, Maya successfully decapitated him and he only survived because of his blood alchemy or Head of John mastery, but Meti was big on not getting so attached to swords that you are dependent on them (or ignore other tools).
I suspect that Incubus also believes that he is Meti’s “real” disciple, while Maya was an example to learn from. That he seems to have his own answer to Meti’s question supports this. It being a poor answer has no bearing on what he believes is correct.

cant wait for what happens next!!!

The way these characters are just throwing their beautifully-crafted clothes off their bodies. That’s how you know they have money.
I don’t think they’re too worried about replacement costs, money or not.
Mentor Fight!
Heck yeah, mentor fight!!

she laughed, as any good swordswoman should when struck down with a truely magnificent cut

Incubus seems like such a nice boy … and all his scars are from our dear Maya.
she decapitated her master with one stroke? so polite. he fed his master’s corpse to the dogs? so obedient. how is her head laughing without lungs?

What’s most impressive here is that she can chug her hip flask upside down.
Yeah she really should be tipping it the other way
It’s impressive how he’s made a sword out of blood and still looks like a total tool.

Both of their answers were wrong. But only Meti is still trying to find a better answer. She taught Al-Yisun, but also she learned from her.
