Alison provide her tactical smarts, using Yog and her abilites as a distraction to rat out position of other heavy hitters. Now they could mop them out like they where noobs and scrubs.
The thematic payoff of this death is masterful. From the very beginning, we know that Zaid was meant to be the protagonist but was swapped into the role of Damsel at the last minute. Here he is punished for forgetting this and trying to reach back into the fate where he was the hero with the master key – “why am I always chasing after you?” you aren’t, buddy. Not in this kalpa. You have forgotten your place and started to think of yourself as a hero once again – but that’s her role. *He dies because he didn’t take Allison’s word that she cannot die here.* He didn’t believe her, or didn’t understand, and had to intervene because in his mind, he has protagonistic weight to change her fate. And this scrap of relevance that he tries to claim is instantly stolen from him by Incubus, thief of screentime, slaver of Chosen Ones, whose ship is staffed by 200 Griffiths who each thought they were the protagonist of their own story. It’s like he can smell it, he can smell the relevance that Zaid is trying to take, because it’s this stolen lifeblood his power relies on. “Wonder who that guy was?” gloating that he has stolen Zaid’s relevance, denied him the chance to leave his assigned role as The Real Hero’s Tragic Damsel. Zaid cannot become the protagonist, cannot become a hero, and should not have tried. Moral? #believewomen
True, but also, he died because Allison seems to have forgotten that just because *she* can’t die, doesn’t mean her allies can’t die. She has bought into her own hype and is currently on the same path that led Zoss and his heirs to ruin, time and time again. Perhaps this death will shock her out of that notion.
I think that’s an egregious and bad faith over estimation on your end. Zaid wasn’t trying to be a hero, he was trying to save Allison from herself. It is very obvious that she isn’t considering the long term consequences of the prophecy she saw earlier where she lives twenty years or so after this. Implying the initial skirmish lead to a prolonged war with Jagganoth. She’s going full ham trying to save everyone. An admirable, but completely unrealistic goal. She can’t die, but that doesn’t mean she won’t end up as a cripple. Fighting like she is going, she actually going to cause the death of her friends as they attempt to save her from her hubris. More over I think the line of her chasing him was him referring to the years that she spent trying to save him. Not necessarily him being aware of the previous prophecy, I don’t even think he’s aware of that. But he could be.
To not speak ill of the newly dead, if you’d seen your old crush and now warrior-friend getting their ass beat in the middle of the battlefield, you’d probably forget about fate and dramatic irony and rush to their help, too
although his internal monologue was *really* asking for it
IN THE END, EVEN I COULD NOT FIGHT ALONE, AT THE PINNACLE OF MY MASTERY. YOUR STRUGGLE MUST BE A TERRIBLE FIRE, WHICH ONLY GROWS AS YOU PASS IT TO OTHERS.
LET IT BE FED BEYOND THE BOUNDARIES OF THE FEEBLE SOULS OF SO-CALLED PRINCES, EMPERORS AND ‘HEROES’.
STRENGTH BEYOND STRENGTH. REMEMBER THIS, AND AWAKEN TO YOUR FATE.
whoops
Fortunately, the arrow passed through the enormous hole in his chest.
“I used to be a contender for Zoss’ throne like you, then I took an arrow to my whole entire ass…”
Shivering Arrow in action
welp, he aint gonna be in Kill Six Billion Demons 2
Can’t stop thinking Zaid looks like Alan Wake here
Good I guess.
Now we can have that unhinged full-power revenge rage moment for Allisson.
Butcan’t they stitch him up somehow? Hole is very round.
Oh. I See Incubus has been practicing that one Archery Style from the Manual.
No Gun Witches still RIP
i’m starting to think this Incubus guy doesn’t have Allison’s best interests in mind

“Welcome back motherfuckers”, exactly how the DM greets us before ripping out our hearts.
The character I actually care about makes his return.
Incubus confirmed Australian?
Maya did say that Incubus was always a very poor swordsman…

This is inaccurate. In the previous page, she said exactly that: she can’t die here, but the rest of them can.

Bravo, masterful.
