Seeker of Thrones 4-29
Chapter: 4
“Do not stare too long at the Pit. Do not underestimate the Pit, you sorry little fools. It has claws, and it will not hesitate to sink them into your unwilling flesh and drag you shrieking into the dark.”
– Mother Om, Imperiatrix of the Gates of Fire
That’s not what I expected.
Maybe it’s Incubus who will be burned after all.
Did not realize Meti had a throne
I don’t think anyone saw that coming. But since she seems to be all about toppling thrones, I guess it makes sense that she’d leave her own throne empty…
Let’s see… I see a broken mirror on the left, a tied-up first consort on the right, and a throne on a pile of goblets.
…Am I right in being more intrigued by the cups than the other details?
The goblets are obviously a symbol of Incubus’ unending thirst. Want is a powerful thing…
Oh shit. Now it makes sense. Auntie Maya’s a demiurge.
Except that she isn’t? Incubus is clearly the one with the key; that much has been made clear.
Demiurges are a supercategory containing the gods of the seven-part-world. Demiurges were those humans who made it to Throne before/during the First Conquest.
While this dosen’t prove Maya’s a demiurge, it does leave the possibility open. She gave up her command over the Middle Army and her throne. Who else but a demiurge could have held those things in the first place?
Well. That delicate balance Mottom was all about preserving has clearly already been shattered by Incubus.
Oh Incubus. You ain’t ever gonna be at Auntie Maya’s level.
Er… are we talking about who I think we’re talking about?
We’re totally talking about her. Oooh geeeeez. I’m not quite sure what to think of this, but it sure was unexpected.
A fat, washed up drunk, eh? Sounds like murder the gods and topple their thrones is less a title and more a promise.
A cold, cold, hate burns inside Incubus. But he will pass unto the night, like so many before him. For how could anyone be so hateful, so focused, that they would turn the worlds into ashes, leaving naught in their wake but void?
“Large Friend.”
I grin.
Murder the Gods and Topple My Throne
I dearly want to see Maya and Incubus resolve this dispute with cutting.
And can we really be sure Incubus is carrying a sword at all? We’ve never seen the blade but maybe it’s there.
Are those his cups at least? Speaking of, not sure how comfortable those are to sit on.
He says he is rebuilding her army. He is the Sword King of the Middle Army so presumably that’s her army. In Meti’s journal, she says she served in the middle army. So it’s likely her rather than Maya.
Also in her journal, she says she was taught the way of the sword by the General of the army but when he lusted after her, she removed some parts. I took that to mean she killed him, but maybe not, if the general was Incubus. Fits with his nature too.
Finally, although Meti isn’t fat when we see her teaching Maya, that was years ago and it’s possible she’s changed a lot since then.
For everyone thinking about Maya, isn’t Meti the one with the Halo of Will, which all the Demiurges (except curiously Incubus) have so far demonstrated?
And isn’t Meti also the one to wear a specialized Third-Eye-Mark which is also a trait the demiurges share, whereas Maya’s is a simple dot more akin to an emmisary.
It is possible, but mind these things:
We only know one of these people was fat at any point.
Maya presently wears a ley-stone, like Cio, an amplifier artifact. And in abandoning her Throne, she abandoned her Key as well, seeing as Incubus possesses it.
Meti may have been terribly powerful or indeed a demiurge in her own right, but that was well before the era of the Seven, if I am not mistaken.
You make interesting points, but I believe that either Maya is being referred to, or we’re being mislead to think such.
The beating Auntie Maya is going to deliver to Incubus is going to be epic. Though that’s only if Al-Yis-Un doesn’t beat her to it first of course when she wakes up and sees just how full of shit Incubus is.
Folks… it’s right there in Meti’s Sword Manual, Argument #5:
“I am Royalty”
Whether this applies to master or student, at this time, is yet to be seen, but in the same manual, Meti mentions a singular apprentice, so it may not really matter all that much.
To be Royal and to be a demiurge are two quite different things.
Zoss was Royal. Meti was Royal. Each of the Seven are aspirants unto Royalty, who took long strides down the path towards it before being caught in one of the Great Enemy’s snares, and now wait for the Conquering King to end their increasingly feeble struggles.
Mathangi ten Meti, Murder the Gods and Topple Their Thrones, was once held fast by such a trap; an empire, an army, burning worlds with her mark held high above them.
And when they became distasteful things to her, she cut herself from them.
It is likely the first thing in her life Meti would have considered praising her for.
Among the many glorious arts this tale has mastered is that of the shocking reveal. To so masterfully build our expectations then twist them into something new. I am truly in awe.
Interesting, it looks like Allison wasn’t the only desperate party involved in the pact she made.
Does Incubus know that the “fat, washed-up drunk” just defeated the emissary of the Thorn Knights? 6JS’s hasty retreat makes a lot more sense now — even at her weakest, a retired demiurge is not to be trifled with.
So I notice that Incubus is a fan of The Greatest American Hero.
It is clear Maya is the fat, washed up Drunk who they are referring to.
But here is the true question:
Was Maya one of the Original Black Emperor’s? Did she Abdicate before or After Ascension? Or was she overthrown?
One locked door is broken only to find seven more. But that comes with the territory.
Gotta say man, I love how your art is coming along, and this is so much better than the bad old days in the before times with the thought of once a week updates an exciting treat!
Unless you are beyond the weft and weave of the threads of reality, never tempt the fates with such statements, for the the fates will answer thee in the most surprising and ignominious way possible, that even with your usurped power you will be left babbling in the gutters of happenstance left wondering as to why such could happen to thee.
And during a different cycle of the holy suicide, in a different multiverse, that symbol on the throne and tapestries was once known as the center, the middle, and the inside. Ignore such semi-coincidental symbolism at thine own peril.
Hmmm…
Methinks that the reddened brows of Maya and the servants are no coincidence…
