KING OF SWORDS 9-118
Chapter: 9
“The old bugger always tried to dissuade his own worship. Hated the whole idea of divinity, matter of fact. But it didn’t matter. The common people worshiped him. The city guard worshiped him, and so did the priest class. Bleeding hells, the demiurges, princes of the world, held him as their king. I’m sure a few o’ them had a little beardy shrine set up somewhere.
I mean, just look at what the bastard could do.”
– Mars Pallatrix, Belligerent knight
The Four Stages of Gog-Agog:
Amazement
Awe
Disbelief
Fear
One might say they’re all agog.
We are all Agog, one might add.
White Chain brought this on his-herself. Maybe a little bit of trust would have gone a long way, but no…just had to listen to the manipulations of Michael and Juggernaut, who I hope was watching.
Also: Vengeful Iron is still nearby, turn around before you get sucker-punched.
It was apparently well warranted distrust at this point.
Allison has made mistakes. Putting any degree of trust in Incubus was definitely among the larger ones. And certainly, the power increase in combining with Cio must feel like…invincibility. But White Chain is wrong. Allison has never been one to seek power for powers’ sale – she does what she has to in order to survive. She is no Demiurge. This has always been about saving Zaid. I don’t think she’s lost sight of that just yet.
Just….if you could suddenly kick that much ass, wouldn’t you take a little bit of time to show off and have some fun with it?
In our story, we know well that Allison is AL YS UN.
I’ve theorized for some time that the rest of the retinue is cast much the same from the spasms.
Ciocio Cioelle Von Maximus III by her chaotic nature is Aesma (and one can liken AL YS UN to the red eyed king under this lens.)
Princess Jack Moonshine by their violent nature is Ogham-am (and their doting on Nyave is like how Ogam taught Metia how to do violence.)
Nyave Anyadis by her subservient nature is Prim (and her relationship with White Chain reinforces this.)
82 White Chain Born in Emptiness Returns to Subdue Evil by her reserved nature is Un-Hansa (who also sometimes favored wearing a woman’s form.)
This leads me to the sorroful conclusion that White Chain, like Hansa, will die.
It was in Hansa’s nature to die, so that Prim could become her complete self.
Well Allison, this is what you wanted? Right?
That’s a very “Graviton Beam Emitter”-esque picture here 🙂
Looks more like a “Vash The Stampede to me”
Smote!
Terror strikes
this is axiomatic
In panel three, lower right quadrant, sits a man who, on a whim, bet his life savings on a mysterious, white-haired contestant who wore a star on her brow. He knows not that the idea was whispered in his ear by a spirit he once inadvertently aided.
Or a man who came to see a good show, and has not been disappointed. I and this man are in agreement.
Abbadon, you shoulda used THOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM of Schlock Mercenary fame. 🙂 Would have sounded cooler.
Also, that was a pretty controlled explosion compared to the one that we saw when Maya split Juggernaught Star’s thorn angel suit.
Anyways, I wonder where White Chain is going to get new armor now (they’re just banished, not dead)? I read somewhere that there haven’t been any new armors made for something like 400 years due to some disagreement or other.
Following the steps of Cio, I’d place a small bet – a bottle of blue devil wine, perhaps – on White Chain somehow becoming combined with Allicio into the weirdest threeway the universes have ever seen.
Its raining (wo)men, hallelujah!
Someone got a hole in there heart.
I think this will cause Alicio to split before even facing Solomon. The guilt of striking down a misguided friend. They probably never anticipated the attack to be lethal.
Unless they did, but it was all part of the plan. I’m predicting that this entire thing is an elaborate bluff that Allison put together. She did say that White Chain wouldn’t like it and it would be dangerous. So far, inviting Cio and jail breaking Zaid doesn’t seem to be enough to qualify.
I am very worried about how Allison is going to handle this.
82 White Chain forced her hand, but …
There, in the domain of the pride of Yisun, the pride of the Heir smote the foodless hand, ascending in doom as a storm of thunder into heaven.
Cradling an empty shell, the emptiness of words were revealed. The spear of justice, in haste, slew the law.
Yet all was not undone.
Ayy, now she can wear White Chain too. Well, her shell anyway.
This one notes the night sky. A bit unusual for a place with two suns. Let us hope this is just planetary rotation and not a lapse in demiurgic attention.
Not unless it orbits both suns, but the astrodynamics the system are unclear. I can see Solomon going ‘screw physics’ and forcing it to work the way he wants it to because if he can MAKE suns (pun not intended), why not make it break physics.
Hell yes.
I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say a good chunk of the people cheering for Allicio weren’t expecting this to happen.
Also:
“Pffft. This but a scratch.”
“Wot? You’ve got a hole through your chest the size of a pineapple, you loonie!”
“I’ve had worse.”
Ah, the ancient classics…
The Price of True Power is always too high.
So, I mean I know there’s the battle with Solomon coming and all, but after that, Allison is probably going to want her own body back, right? And Cio probably wants to _give_ it back, too; but to a devil, drinking from a human’s soul-flame has gotta be one heck of a drug…
It would feel weird, in story-telling terms, for Alicio to last until the end of the comic, so yes, I’m expecting them to separate soon, probably at the end of this book. That could be because they just prefer to be individual again; or because Cio squicks Alison with the feeding thing and Alison casts her out; or because Cio won’t feed without invitation and can’t handle the temptation any more, so bails; or (new favourite prediction) they have an almighty row about who’s fault it is that White Chain died and go off into separate huffs for half of book 5.
Can the devil in a devilskin partnership even choose to separate? Can the human?
Well, that got sorted. Maybe I worry too much.
And the entire time Salami Dave is thinking, “Is it Tuesday? It feels like a Tuesday. That means taco night.”
Ahh, to see an agent of tyranny laid low and humbled, despite their vast power, is a soothing balm for a bitter and crusty soul such as mine…
Now crush the body into dust! Ensure that your freedom remains unfettered and unchained!
This is what it feels like to fall.
It seems odd that nobody has mentioned (unless I missed it) that Zaid, Nyave and Princess have successfully escaped the detention area and are now back in the arena watching the match.
