Wielder of Names 1-17
Chapter: 1
“Sure I’ve got a few debts in me, and I’ve got the marks to prove it. But power’s quite the mistress, fool. Tell me, have you seen this before?”
– Splitpin, Devil Binder
“Sure I’ve got a few debts in me, and I’ve got the marks to prove it. But power’s quite the mistress, fool. Tell me, have you seen this before?”
– Splitpin, Devil Binder
Not simply a fool, but a wilful fool! I do so hope you live, Young Pree Usagi~
Interesting. I wonder what kind of contract Cio snookered Alison into by giving her her card. (Assuming that’s what the mark on her chest is)
However, those marks certainly predate her interaction with Cio.
Interesting… What deals has young Alice-UN gotten herself involved with already?
I’m pretty sure those “marks” are to indicate the evanescence of the Void; her transparent soul being drawn to nonexistence by the invisible “wind”.
PLEASE TELL ME THAT THE GAME OF SKILL WILL BE ROCK-PAPER-SCISSORS
Please tell me that the game of skill will be Rock-Paper-Scissors and that Allison is secretly a champion at that game.
I’d have gone for teeth guy, personally. He didn’t say it had to be your teeth.
Yes! Strike him in the jaw, and feed him his own foul ivory in payment! Tis only fair, and just.
I don’t think shoving someone’s pearly whites into their own throat counts as payment.
Unless you are making the deal with Smiley’s esophagus.
ITS TRUE
How do you know it demanded teeth, and not that it simply speaks the word?
I am reminded suddenly of the tale of the man and his companions deceived into impossible tasks. To out eat fire, drink the sea, and wrestle age itself, among others. Though each task was failed, his deceivers were impressed with his fortitude and that of his companions.
I do hope Young Pree-Allison here likewise shows skill beyond all expectation.
And thus young Allison becomes her own rabbit, and the hot black flame burns through a rabbit hole. At least she can’t be late for this very important engagement.
I’m fairly sure I remember the Ebon masked demons being exceedingly rare, and extremely powerful. Cool to finally see one
I’m actually not sure this is an Ebon. Those seem slightly more human-ish from a sketch on Abbadon’s tumblr. This looks more like a Crimson with an old, old mask, not unlike the one those three were trying to bargain with earlier.
If you look at the tips of his horns in that first panel he’s in, you can see they’re tinged red. The mask colors have a definite aesthetic in addition to their color, and this fellow’s mask is certainly like the crimson ones we’ve seen before.
The same could be said for the blue imp in the same panel. Her entire mask is blue, except for the tips.
Mask aesthetics seem entirely dependent upon whoever made their masks for them, but the color of the devil seems to depend entirely on how many names the devil has. Does a devil need to change masks when they change color, or do the masks change color with them? In the latter case, the mask’s appearance would only tell us from what rank the devil started lopping off their own names as they started their ascension.
Good point. From what we’ve seen, masks appear to break down and can be supplied by devil binders. I haven’t seen any gilded devils with skull masks, so they probably need to get a new mask from someone before they ascend the hierarchy.
Masks also seem to dictate the kind of personality a devil has? I remember Abbaddon mentioning something like that. What I got from that is if a devil changes masks, they can change their identity and become a completely different person entirely. Or even when the mask they change to is similar, they’re not even the same devil anymore. Just a new being with the same personality. Clarification would be appreciated.
Maybe the names the devil lops off of itself aren’t just words attached to it but distinct personalities, and a devil is the sum of those personalities. It would explain how they change who they are in addition to what they are. The only thing I’m sure of is I don’t know enough about devils yet
I’m not entirely sure old Thulsa Drulle is a reliable source when it comes to demons. She was known to drink heavily toward the end of her life, when she was writing the Daemonica Maleficum; the Society Against Devil Defamation (SADD) calls her a charlatan and denies that she had any knowledge of devil culture or ceremony. It’s possible she made the whole thing up out of whole cloth.
Impetuous…
…
A quick temper takes its toll in time…
Oh, dear, sweet Alice-UN. It is clear that you want to put the frightened child you once were behind you, but this is territory unknown to you, and the domain of devils. You should consider deferring to your little blue fanfiction writer in these matters, lest you give away that powerful and terrible artifact over something trivial.
The road to wisdom is paved with follies, so they say. Beautiful, beautiful follies~
Alice-UN’s eyes have grown to be quite the piercing blue color since imbibing the contents of that bottle…
Personally, I’d take a brash warrior over a condescending one anyday.
Alison, you had both feet all the way down your own throat and you still managed to shove a third one into your mouth. Where did that foot even come from? How can you even? Because I CAN’T.
The blue devil imps are so adorable, I want one.
ALLISON, YOU FOOL
Listen to Cio, please.
It’s probably too late anyway 😛
Maybe if Clio would stop insulting Allison… Just maybe, she would start listening.
Asking Cio to speak without insults is to ask her to be silent, is it not?
I think her speach is explitive-laden out of long-standing habit. She thinks herself terribly clever (and she no doubt is, compared to many), and she likes to remind others of this at every opportunity.
This new guy looks Brian Froud as hell.
right? I was just contemplating a Henson Workshop adaptation of K6BD.
Hey guys, check it out! Tumblr user gunnerkriggs made an angel name generator: http://www.generatorland.com/usergenerator.aspx?id=11447
Here’s an alternate generator that seems more varied in naming patterns:

“66 Verdant Eye Destroys the Poor”
Confirmed for Illuminati.
Or no wait, Mason. They’re the ones with the connection to Washington.
Easy to confuse them since they both have the association with pyramid eyes.
In any case, black suited angel with a penchant for economic policy.
TEETH
The time to debate folly is past us. This Contract Is Sealed, and Heaven or Hell is in the fall of the next thrown dice.
I feel young Pree Alice-UN, this so-called “Magister Usagi” is about to discover that things are not as simple as they appear.
So…I see Cio’s card on Alison’s shoulder in this earlier panel, but wonder what the two other contract marks are?

“If thou loseth, giveth me…”? Feels a bit too mock-archaic here, IMO; I thought Cio’s “Black Speech” bit was really fun, but this part just feels like a mistake (actual archaic forms would be “If thou lose [present subjunctive], give [imperative] me some o’ that shine in thy head”). The ending “-eth” is usually characteristic of the third-person present singular indicative (i.e., the places where -s/-es is used in modern English.).
Why is she such a stubborn ass. Honestly infuriating.
MC: SOMEONE TELL ME SOMETHING!!
*multiple people tell her what not to do*
MC: *steamrolls their advice then has to be princess peach for the umpteenth time*
That teeth guy knows what he likes.
Teeth.
