Well, it’s good that dear Cio has finally seen what has been happening to Allison. It would have been a shame if she were to fulfill Allison’s suspicions at the last minute.

Honestly this entire arc has been nonstop stress and trauma. I’ve been on the edge of my seat nearly the entire time, but This Page is easily the most worrying out of all of them.
I have this feeling that Allison is soon to regain control of her own body. Leastwise, if she cares at all for her chronicler….
This vaguely reminds me of that one time in Twin Peaks when that one guy’s hair turned white.
Since swords are more like slicing hammers than poking sticks, at least when nobody’s got shields, let’s see our hero swing that macho blade in that tunnel.
And “Holy”? Mayhaps a better word would be “divine” if there’s no thought given to it at all…
The myth that a sword can only cut, or indeed was primarily used for cutting, is comical indeed. Historically, they were used to do both with a slight bit more heft towards the stabbing; though I do admit you are right about greatswords, which were used much as a hammer would be in battle. Bastard swords, however, were still capable of doing both. I believe this might be what Allison’s weapon is, since we see her doing just that only a few pages prior; that said, it definitely does seem more like greatsword-length.
The style of sword we see here is specifically associated with stabbing. Indeed, it’s intended to have a fighting style much more similar to a spear, hence the double guard.
Actually, her sword is most similar to a claymore (not the basket hilt) or a zweihander, and there were some VERY stabby styles of fighting. Check Tahlhoffer style swordplay for examples.
Look up “half swording” zweilanders are pretty versatile weapons.
True, one lesson Dark Souls taught me is that fighting with large weaponry in small spaces is a lot more frustrating than one might initially expect.
What do you mean? Swords are totally thrusting weapons, especially in the European martial tradition.
I think I kinda assumed that the whole overarching plot of K6BD would be Alison gradually going from normal dork to badass king. I’m starting to suspect that most of it will be about going back from king to noodle vendor.
I also relatedly suspect that she’ll have white hair on the cover of the next book.
I still think she will become king.
After all, she always makes bad decisions, and only the worst kind of idiot strives to be king.

Like a spoke in the wheel that turns, the King called Kill Six Billion Demons will rise to power, but that will be only half the story (and not by any stretch the more interesting half.) As one of our greatest poets said, “coming down is the hardest thing.” Power is like a drug in many ways, then.
If anyone has read Dune, it’s precisely the same idea. Paul rises to near universal power (despite being ambivalent towards it) in the very first book, causing a massive jihad and tying him in to a single prophetically-determined path. However, the bulk of the series is first he and then his descendants trying to dispose of that power without causing more genocide, with the complication that, as with Allison, there is prophecy guiding (or controlling) their actions.
Time will be the revelator, but I think you have the gist of the story.
