Seeker of Thrones 4-29
Chapter: 4
“Do not stare too long at the Pit. Do not underestimate the Pit, you sorry little fools. It has claws, and it will not hesitate to sink them into your unwilling flesh and drag you shrieking into the dark.”
– Mother Om, Imperiatrix of the Gates of Fire
Huh. I guess this explains why he doesn’t show up to meeting in-person.
Wait in the conner of the room is that the first concubine? From here it looks like nothing more than a doll. Hmm, I wonder does the mighty incubus puppet around a pretty face to act in has stead because the others won’t let him touch his desired throne.
A doll, yes. But in truth, this one was not aware that she is a mere doll. She was born from a womb like all humans. But then she came into the possession of THE KING OF THE PIT, for whom the world is a plaything. And THE KING OF THE PIT groomed and fashioned her ego into that of a spoiled pet, in truth turning her into a doll to play with. And the little thing believed that THE KING OF THE PIT cared for her and that was her DOOM. For when THE KING OF THE PIT tired of her, he broke open her porcelain skin to see if he could tease some entertainment from the shattered pieces. And when THE KING OF THE PIT grew bored with his broken toy, he tossed it aside to drown in the rotten blood of dead ages.
I hope he’s talking about Maya
Who else could have cut him so?
Ohhh! Well spotted. That’s why she wears Incubus’ insignia!
Yes. Maya wears Incubus’ insignia.
Certainly not the other way around.
The insignia of the Middle Army. She may yet be more heir to it than he. We shall see.
At this point, I rather suspect that he wears her insignia.
Yes, I’ve been wondering about that after the last panel. I think the wiki refers to her mark as a bindi, but it seems more likely to be Incubus’ key-mark.
Do you know how powerful you have to be to be an /independent/ merchant of noodles in Throne?
Who else than the finest swordswoman that we know of would deserve the throne of Flame?
(Also, Incubus is a washed up drunk too, and he knows it.)
It’s much more likely that it refers to Maya’s master, but it’s possible it refers to either.
HMMMM I WONDER WHO HE’S TALKING ABOUT???
Also, is that the first consort hanging back there? The one who went to the meeting in his place? Yikes.
Murder The Gods And Topple Their Thrones
Methinks the Lord of Lust did not win the Middle Army through skill at arms. He inherited it.
You mean he’s Maya’s son? That would explain why he’s the one bearing the key; Maya could have been a member of Zoss’s court in the good old days; then things went to hell and she decided she wanted none of it. Makes sense.
Nah, rather that Incubus was a trusted subordinate, but not someone you’d expect to run the greatest army in creation. Then Maya decided she wanted nothing to do with the demiurge war, and left the Middle Army to Incubus.
It would be a rather fun twist if he inherited the title of “Sword King” by marrying Maya or some such thing.
That is indeed a wonderful idea.
Interesting, how the King of the Pit still refers to it as “her” army rather than “the Middle Army” or “the army she used to lead” or “the army she abandoned”. Perhaps he still maintains a begrudging respect for Murder the Gods and Topple their Thrones…
I am pleased to know that, in this, I was incredibly incorrect. This was not a meeting between the two Kings, but simply Pankrator Jagganoth’s interruption. I am also less pleased to know that this was incidentally a sharing of secrets. I dislike secret-sharing meetings, they always make me uncomfortable.
I find myself riddled with questions.
What is with all the colden goblets upon which Incubus’ stolen throne is propped? Trophies collected from his endless vassals?
Of whom does Incubus speak? Meti, perhaps?
What was the tune Incubus was humming in the blood chamber? The Sailor Moon theme?
In the waking world, is Incubus perhaps crippled? His sword resembles a cane, his body is covered in scars.
It is said he bears the word “Flame”, but what does that entail, specifically?
More importantly, how does Jagganoth sit on a pile of goblets with all their edges and not feel deeply uncomfortable? The keys must truly be stronger than anticipated!
He is completely and totally immune to physical harm these days.
Which seems slightly incongruous with all the scars and battle damage, but one assumes those are from earlier on.
On page 844 you can see his ‘vassals’ offering Incubus the cups filled with a red liquid… their own blood perhaps? Ominous…
It is known that Mathangi Ten Meti was once the commander of the Middle Army. How Incubus usurped that position is still a mystery.
Until otherwise stated, my head canon is that he was indeed humming the sailor moon theme.
FLAME is a consumptive principle. It refines, it purifies, but ultimately, it devours. Its hunger is endless, and it will burn everything in its path until it has been starved of fuel.
This is the nature of FLAME, and any who would dare to wield it shall know its terrors.
…MAYA????
The concubine looks worse for wear, poor dear.
Hopefully she’s at least enjoying it.
Aww man, Auntie is going to pull rank.
She does have a parade of Fools to follow. Perhaps Incubus is one of their member.
So, by name, Incubus’ throne probably belongs to someone named Succubus.
By description, Maya is on the portly side, and is by her own admission habitually drunk. She also has a talent with blades, and Incubus is the sword king, so…
“What happens to a man’s house when he dies?”
“The cats, the rats, and the cockroaches take over.”
Also, the exterior tends to become covered in vines, the homeless set up camp, and foul molds tend to develop within the walls. The presence of dragons, however, is not a phenomena usually associated with the abandonment of private property.
Perhaps they are always there, but typically rather small?
I’d certainly like to think that I am slaying dragons with every step.
It sounds as though someone has been acquainted with Mathangi Mantra…
MURDER THE GODS AND TOPPLE THEIR THRONES
Why did I not know about this amazing comic before.
You did not know because on some level you did not want to know. Now the third eye of your Want is open and will never be closed. Such is the power of these lies.
That’s a lot of cups. Does Inky also have executive dysfunction?
Why did I not know about this amazing story before?
Because you had only reached Swaggy-B levels. You have evolved
We all had to start somewhere.
Those who knew of it are few, and those who have survived to this day to tell it are fewer.
So Enemies #4 and #1 have formed an alliance? How despicable, and how very temporary. Good thing I’ve seen this; now I shall send a Maximum-Priority Class-14 letter directly to Throne, where it will be swiftly reviewed by the 25th tier of the Mail Department to be sent to the Board of Directors, and within twelve turns it will be sent to Lord Mammon Himself, and once that happens they’ll think twice before….
Wait a minute. Just what is Enemy #1 sitting on? Dear Mammon above, it’s GOLD. That blasphemer! All gold belongs to Mammon, it is His element! Why else would I fill my bloodstream with liquid gold if not to become closer to Mammon? I loathed that thing with every fiber of my being before, but now… this is intolerable. May I rend myself in half with my own tongue before I look upon this accursed image agaiOOOHH SHINY GOLD
Forge thineself, and be proud.
Maya, demiurge? It’s no wonder that one as convoluted as Incubus would not understand the simplicity of the cut.
I thought Meti at first, but even at her drunkest I wuld not call Meti fat. Though in that case it places the Meti/Maya flashback WAY back in time. Before the war of the demiurges. Metis comments on the pre-occupation with destiny also makes a lot of sense in that regard, in a world filled with godlike fools.
Do you think Maya would not give up everything to be a simple, fat noodle vendor?
Seems we have a usurper.
The Seven are all usurpers.
Or an inheritor! It sounds like the throne’s rightful occupant (Maya, since it’s obviously her) decided she wanted nothing to do with it. Maybe she left it empty and Incubus was the first to claim it; maybe he is Maya’s son or her ex-husband. The thing is, the other demiurges obviously think he didn’t really earn the throne; and I doubt they would think that if he had taken it by force.
All of the demiurges are, at their core, Usurpers. Even Zoss, the Conquering King, was a usurper of Throne.
Huh, Incubus is blind.
My thoughts exactly
I don’t think that’s blind tapping. I think that’s “Tut tut! Shuffle off, you.” tapping.
Yup. Aside from the cane-sword, his eyes never move.
So Incubus worked for the sword saint or her grandmother
methinks incubus has had a fun relationship with our good auntie maya.
Interesting …
I suspect “she” is Auntie Maya. Call it a hunch.
Waaaaaaaiiiiiiiitt. Wait wait wait wait wait.
…Maya?
When seeking to attain the throne by circumnavigation of a rival evil god, the villianous pacing monologue may be an efficacious strategy. As it is said, “Seek heaven through puerility, and show them all!”
Alternate name for this page: “Gandalf Bowie and Fiery Mammoth Hulk engage in evil schemes”
I look forward to “alternate summary of this page” as a regular feature of the comments section in future.
Very Yes!
