Seeker of Thrones 4-25
Chapter: 4
“In Lethyx dwells a white princeling who doth not sleep, but feedeth upon the sleep of other as a tick fattens itself upon a bloated vein. There doth he perch, and sifteth through the minds of men as one sorts marbles, to shatter them at his pleasure.”
– Book of Black Kings
This guy sounds legit.
Hrn- using his Key as a key to the Hot Black Flame of Want within every human soul. A shortcut to power created by unlocking a door. Of course, to those who truly understand Want a door, even a locked one, is inconsequential.
Incubus hasn’t been paying attention if he thinks AL-YIS-UN is willing to bow or take the easy road any longer. She named herself King not too long ago, and Royalty does not bow.
He reminds me of the Ba’al (what Ba’al?) the Ba’al with tower (what tower?) the tower of… well… doodoo.
Don’t listen to him young heir the hot ones are always the craziest to deal with! Especially does with a tongue of celestial sliver and piles of corpses that makes up the foundation of their home.
Here it comes
When god offers you everything you ever wanted, ask yourself who told you to want those things.
A god that answers prayers is a god that grows fat on begging.
I like that last phrase muchly.
As human beings, our job in life is to help people realize how rare and valuable each one of us really is, that each of us has something that no one else has–or ever will have–something inside that is unique to all time. It’s our job to encourage each other to discover that uniqueness and to provide ways of developing its expression.
You talk a good talk, but I’m waiting for Bob Ross the Inspirational to weigh in.
Oh boy, Allison! This sure does seem like a good idea! Let’s just go ahead and let this dude do whatever he wants with no second guessing, yup!
I’d let him unlock my potential if you know what I’m saying
Username checks out. ?
Hell yeah
A road full of shortcuts leads to failure.
royalty cuts all
long or short
failure is inexistant
to the true king
I didn’t know his middle name is Mephistopheles. “Anything that sounds too good to be true usually is.” She better not strike a deal with him.
Not a truly fair comparison, I should think. As I recall, Mephistopheles himself suggested that Faustus should quit while he was ahead and not cut any sort of infernal deal, only really agreeing to ferry a message to his master before he was “volunteered” to help Faustus in exchange for his soul.
The fact that Faustus was smart enough to summon him and dumb enough to go through with it is exactly the sort of human error that Incubus looks well suited to exploiting. Ambition might take you places, but laziness works very hard to make the way “easier”.
From misery and pain embers burn
Hopes flame so bright that all who see
Are blinded by its cruel malevolent light.
Dreams attained with heavenly desire
But so many aspacts stamped to the ground.
The kindest generosity left out cold
Compassion dies out overshadowed by glamor
Within one’s mind a truth you seek.
Awaken from thy dream and make it reality
The virtue Ambition is born.
Oh my God, he’s a Sex Ursula
Ursula is a sex Ursula, if you try hard enough
>Implying Ursula wasn’t already a sexy beast.
YOU POOR UNFORTUNATE SOUL
GO AHEAD
MAKE YOUR CHOICE
All it costs is your voice, right?
I’ve never fallen so quickly in love with a character tbh
(Also hey, first time commenting, hi guys!)
Welcome!
Welcome to the Concordance of Demiurges!
May You Reach Concordance!
Dwarf Xena’s feet are too small for her to be a hobbit.
I have a feeling he is called Incubus because everyone who deals with him gets fucked.
I genuinely laughed at this.
Ah….THERE it is.
Do not let him touch your Key with his key.
And yet each of the people he unlocked the “potential” of still bear the burdens of their former selves. The weak man’s sword, the peasant’s weights, the beggar’s rags, the drunkard’s bottle — have they truly changed who they are, or are they simply happier trappings of the old misery?
An astute observation, Preem 27 Blue Mask.
Well spotted, an excellent analysis. The drunk’s drink in particular stands out to me.
One with ambition without putting in the hard work is like Heinlein’s pre-ballet epilogue Waldo.
Everything come with a price.
What is his price for helping?
The price is likely to be more than she can pay
yet, she may not be able to refuse.
The word of the day is momentum.
While you remain motionless in relation to your goal, it is easy to say that it is too far, or too hard to reach. Even then, actually gathering the energy to advance could be considered difficult as well. However, once you’ve completed your goal, you can always look back, and realize with retrospect how much you’ve grown; how hard it was for the you that you left behind, and how easy it would be for the you that you’ve become, to cross that distance.
To whit, Incubus’ deal is a cruelty, not a kindness, at least threefold.
Firstly, there is a catch. When someone offers you an easy way out, there is always a catch.
Secondly, you lose the eternally undervalued gift of perspective. You lose the ability to say you know what it means to have grown that strong, to have crossed that distance with your own two feet.
Thirdly, and debatably the most cruelly of all, you lose momentum. By travelling that distance on your own, you will, perhaps innately, overshoot it. You will become greater than you meant to, simply because you gathered that momentum. By being given your destination, you will arrive there, and, having arrived, you will cease advancing. You will not grow stronger. You will not grow greater than you mean to.
Even if I misunderstand, even if all Incubus does is take those first steps for his subjects, my point still stands. The first steps of a journey are persistently the slowest, the heaviest and most difficult footfalls. If you ever come to a stop, you will necessarily be reliant on his push again. From the moment you accept his assistance, you will be inevitably coaxed into his service.
Such insight is hard to teach:
the lesson is that we must each
learn to grasp beyond our reach
A door unlocked for you by another can be locked again, by that same other. Learn to pick that lock, and your way shall never be barred again.
“total fuck ups”
ouch.
also why do i suspect he’s lying through his teeth?
Oh, but he have no need to. That’s the most horrifying part – everything he says is true. But people will believe anything they want to believe, or afraid to. He just gives you hard facts in harsh words within a certain worldview. You will deceive you-self without further aid.
…and then there’s a little, compleatly insignificant matter of price…
Because his lips are moving.
Alternatively, why am I afraid that he’s being completely honest…?
Often I have dreamed of this power. Just a small nudge would improve so many minds and relieve so much pain. My name will be Deus Ex Machina All will rely on me. I know better than they. I own their success. Their story is now mine.
And so I must not. I remain content only to read and never to write the minds of men. They get to do the hard work and reap the reward for themselves.
