His keys ability to strengthen ambition is making sense here, given how he started with ambition, however, there may be more to it, maybe an obsession with ambition? Kind of screams Anakin Skywalker almost.
Now you, young man, are of gutter spawn
Your frame bereft of brains or brawn
Your will is strong,
But your gait is lame
If only there was someone who could kindle your FLAME.

Oh, now a bit of old rumor makes sense! I was in a tea-shoppe (very good, southwest of the Xixo Vong Home Hive in the Red City, ask for барон чой for the private stocks) frequented by certain members of the Mendicant Knights, and one of them said there was a drunken member who would appear around the city and ask “are we the baddies?”
That really depends on wherever they had skulls on their caps or not. As for the Goodies, I’m afraid those haven’t been seen in thirty-seven years. At least one of them I know for sure has been squashed flat by a giant cat. Tragic.
Ambition? No.
The most powerful seed is Doubt. Ambition needs to be stocked to grow from glowing ember to raging fire. Doubt festers on its own, digs deep roots, and smothers anything else under its growth.
Doubt comes easy, to succumb to it you merely have to do nothing.
To overcome it, you have to do Everything.
But what happens if your doubt is too big and you cannot chose a path to Everything? then you get stuck.
If you have a goal, at least you know something. And withou will, because doubt can break your will if it isn’t strong enough, you won’t be able to reach any goal no matter how small it is
Wow just realized the same counterargument applies to all the paths to something bigger, you just change doubt with ambition and it’s the same thing !
Ambition, at its highest, burn with the force of a star.
It will draw moth to the light, swirling around it in admiration. Others will flee the heat or envy its brightness.
Yet for all, getting to close to it you will BURN.
Doubt grows a thicket, a dark place where nothing blossoms.
Digging its routs through flesh and mind, it casts shadows on everything seen and imagined.
All path that would lead out of it are gloomy and covered in thorns of their own making.
Goals seem unattainable, a dark fate inevitable. And the growth casts long shadows, that touch those around you, and they either withdraw or get sucked in.
A person succumbed to Doubt will long for OBLIVION.
Both Ambition and Doubt unchecked can destroy a person and those around them.
Doubt just needs some pruning. If you take care of your doubt, let it speak but don’t make it your master, it will serve you well.
Indeed, a healthy, happy doubt of the proper size is the only way to tell truth from delusion.
Ambition may have a harder time taking hold, but many fools devote their lives to coddling their ambitions, carefully cultivating something utterly useless.
At last, Incubus’ flashback. Why, for Prim’s sake, here he looks at least thrice more horrifying than nowadays, despite all his scars.
Oh, considering above-mentioned Prim – just a bit of insane theory developed recently. I now suspect that Zoss is nobody but Hansa reincarnate, being cinical cryptical old pipe-smoker and the one who is true Royalty. This also makes sensible Allison’s hair changing colour – for wasn’t Prim always described as “white”?
BTW, don’t forget that the cover of the current book was subscribed “Prim masters the Road”.
…huh. Is this a young Incubus, then?
That’s what I’m thinking too.
Scrawny looking kid….
There certainly is a resemblance.
Attentive.
Astute.
Intent.
Scared, even.
But what makes it clear they are the same man is the luckless, unhappy, unsatisfied, terrifying look in those red holes he has for eyes.
And now I need a drink, urgently…
A Prediction:
Incubus will be the one to shave every hair from his head with the Maybe Sword.
He tried, but he keeps getting quiffs.
so that’s where all those scars came from
i think pit boy over there is gonna get a haircut and protein real quick after this
Oh I’ll give him some protein alright
DISTRESSING THOUGHT.
I think I just felt the Thousand Points Bad Touch.
It’s the best way to avoid having students.
But if you’re not careful, you’ll soon catch twenty two of them.

He bears the word Flame, which definitely could be talking about a person’/ inner flame or motivation.

I understood this reference. And yeah, people read this.
I’m going to make a wild guess that not much remains of Au Vam.
Ruins on top of ruins.
Was not expecting Meti’s idiot apprentice to be Incubus, but maybe that is the case?

Once, long ago in the Cricklewood when I were but a lad, I saw three Goodies on the road, mounted upon their mechanical steed. I have seen none since.
That really depends on wherever they had skulls on their caps or not. As for the Goodies, I’m afraid those haven’t been seen in thirty-seven years. At least one of them I know for sure has been squashed flat by a giant cat. Tragic.
Well, someone is copying Diogenes wholesale.
From the jar in the marketplace, to now the sub-quotes or whatever the term is when you hold your mouse over the image.
Well, you could foist off of worse I guess.

With 777,777 universes to choosen from it seems inevitable that cynicism would arise more than once, with all it’s august trappings.
Oh, so it’s a flashback! I thought Maya had got swole with Allison, but apparently she was built like a brick stupa when she was younger. Who knew?
And yes, the color scheme of white hair and red eyes surely suggests we are seeing Incuboy. It could explain where he got his sword skills, neh?
“I have as much right to sit at this table as -any- of you.”
PATHETIC FOOOOOOOL
YOU DONT NEED MARTIAL ARTS TO TREMBLE IN FEAR BEFORE ME AND MY NEVERENDING ARMY

Are you sure its a good idea? She did have a love affair with the samurai
As usual, we reach the present by on an unexpected path.
