KING OF SWORDS 10-146
Chapter: 10
Your hand, wrought in killing fire, its fell weight
must be felt by the arm, the strong shoulder,
then in turn the heart, turned inwards quickly
in reflection. Think on its awful weight,
oh beautiful soldier, and tremble rightly.
– Psalm 565, often attributed to the goddess Prim
The first time I broke a brick, before I broke the brick, I ceased being myself. I became a mountain, and then when I touched the brick, the brick could not bear the weight of a mountain, and cracked under that weight.
Perhaps White Chain has stopped being, and started becoming.
“I do not ask for your forgiveness” doesn’t have quite the same punch as the angel Duma saying “No”, but it’s pretty damn close. Eye watering amounts of holy sh*t.
A thought: Might Solomon David himself choose to throw the bout?
Perhaps to shed himself of the trappings of empire for a period so as to more comfortably manage the rising dissent among the Seven or some other, more arcane purpose, with the full knowledge that he could simply return and reclaim his empire from the unworthy placeholder?
I think it’s really funny – in the current context – that what is basically happening here is that a mystical space cop is about to get killed by a black man in the name of anti-authoritarianism.
And if she does not intend to win, and he does not intend to let her make her point by dying — how if he fights her to a draw? (He’s already mirroring her technique.) An honorable stasis, if you will, preserving the status quo but refusing to abolish our rebellious police angel.
Victory; a hollow and ridiculous notion.
Would be interesting if Juggernaut offered to die in White Chain’s place.
What can we infer from the one panel we’ve seen where Solomon adopts his opponent’s own fighting style? Primarily that Solomon is not going immediately into irresistible time-stoppage mode, that he doesn’t want the battle to be a pushover, which would be dishonorable. On top of that, he’s using her technique, which seems like he’s possibly taking a small risk.
Why would he do that? I think he’s trying to paint the picture that he’s as good as any angel. Because Solomon is nothing if not classist, it’s his entire persona.
shes going to be YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETED
Bathrobe battles commence.
