BREAKER OF INFINITIES 4-148 to 4-149
Prim went by a brightly lit merchant city, where the free living inhabitants held nightly sojourns, seances, and threw wild celebrations. They sampled poetry, sipped on liquor, and inhaled smoke. There were among their number many great, wise, and virile arithmeticians and philosophers, and many well furnished and splendid parlors and cafes.
It was a very pleasant and energetic place, and a Prim stayed there a while, eventually owning a used book shop, but after a while Prim began to realize that nobody stayed there for very long. It was not a place to settle. The hours were too late, there were few children, and the people talked in circles. So it was after two or three years Prim moved on and returned, wearily, to the road again.
– Prim Masters the Road
I think the website’s doing something weird here. The previous page has no link to this one.
That happens for a little while after the page goes up, don’t worry it’ll connect up soon!
Existential crisis time….
If only for us waiting for something, anything, to happen. Anything at all. Just finish the book dude
Um, what? I’m really enjoying this. It feels like a ton happened recently.
Well, other reader feedback: I don’t find anything wrong with the pacing here at all. This isn’t in fact a shonen manga, it’s a graphic novel that references shonen, and the author doesn’t actually have to cater to the attention span of a sugar-fueled teenage boy. They’re allowed to use slow parts to make an artistic statement, which I think works here really well. There are many dumber comics to read if it bothers you.
The author naturally has every right to direct the plot as he sees fit, there will be people who will like it, people who won’t.
I think there is room here for all constructive comments given the public’s expectations.
The author also had their first kid recently. So maybe find something better to do than pressure him to speed up simply for your entertainment.
By god she actually went back to bed. Abbadon you genius, you actual nobel literature prize winner.
Chekov’s bed???
DAMN she’s really skinny as hell you can see her spine!
thats crazy coz she’s got no backbone
I think she’s been really strong all through a series of increasingly daunting challenges. After what happened to her, it makes sense she’d be feeling low.
Well, with that attitude, with a power in your skull that commands reality according to your attitude, yeah
I guess the confidence trick works both ways. And I predict this is the single lowest point our Allison will reach.
Seriously though, when you’re neck deep in magical destiny, prophecy, time loop stuff? And you’re holding a power that was not “meant for you” to have? That’s not good news. That’s gonna break the game wide open news. And if she wasn’t in the middle of the galloping depressions she might see that.
Wonder what would happen if you put Zoss in the machine.
He’d see himself, like Zaphod.
That wasn’t the actual machine though.
It seems like Allison is discounting several of her accomplishments here, both on and off screen, though given the circumstances her emotional state is understandable. Interestingly, while Jadis’ words appear to have had an impact, most of it seems to have bounced off Allison’s self absorption. Ie. Allison is despairing because of the choices she did make, and their outcome, rather than on never having had a choice at all.
Power of ‘I’ is kind of prods any nascent self-absorbtion. It’s also a good news! It means that Allison either didn’t buys this nihilistic view, or didn’t listened to details at all – which is both fine.
Althrough, one would expect some more of an impact from seeing the form of the Universe. Even while she’d seen nothing, she didn’t applied it to everything – only to her life and choices. I guess actually closing your eyes helps here, huh?
Survivor guilt is one hell of a drug.
Also, neither she nor us actually know what’s happened to Zaid, Princess, and Nyeve. They left. They could well still be out there somewhere.
“I am nothing.”
Allison is so close to reaching epiphany. I will pray for her.
The new BBEG is Depression, and Jadis is the worst therapist in the area, if not the universe.
“White Chain… Zaid… Princess…”
no mention for my girl nyave? smh allison you may be in the depths of nihilism but that’s no reason to forget the girl who SAVED YOUR LIFE TWICE
Yeah! Tsk tsk!
I originally assumed that ‘Princess’ referred to Nyave (since she is an actual princess) … but yeah, you’re right, Princess was that demon’s name.
Funny, this sure doesn’t look like seven pages at once.
“there’ll be updates every day this week”
-Buddha
In today’s short story section, Prim discovers San Francisco.
I was gonna say NYC but SF is equally valid
I wonder how long it’ll take for 83 White Chain to show up and get Allison all fired back up again.
Still waiting for the tutorial on that breakfast
Step 1, obtain a Key of Kings.
She was changed from an angel to human, so she’s likely gone for good.
She got a human form, but still showed Angel nature.
There is no place to settle on the road.
So is that big rock Jadis’ old crystal? Cause it looks like a former god case thatgot Jaganothed.
It has what looks a lot like that hole Jadis dragged Alison into to show her the shape of the wheel.
dang this is like the third dark night of the soul she’s had in this story. Poor girl is really getting the narrative boots taken to her.
Where are the other five pages? Is there another link I’m missing or is the next page button broken?
We’ll get them through this week, every day!
“I am nothing”
Yes. And that is the secret of power.
A Breakfast gone to waste! Truly a Travesty!
Also Alison’s friends are maybe dead, that’s important too.
I do wonder what Zaid and the crew have been up to in all this. Certainly, White Chain, Cio and Allison are kind of the main ringleaders, but that crew has… Actually it has Zaid (the successor), with a white flame (10 Vigilant) and a black flame (Princess).
I would be deeply fascinated witnessing what sort of terrible and chaotic fire a hypothetical Zaid/Princess/Vigilant Gaze fusion would burn with
I completely missed the Zaid, 10 Vigilant, and Princess parallel to the prophecy. Thanks for helping me realize!
And they’ve had 3 years to train Zaid up and bond. It would be quite the twist if passing the key on to Zaid really was necessary all this time.
But I still remember that Zoss smashed up every angel, right down to the primes, when they were all in their strongest form, before he ever formed that key. So passing on the key doesn’t mean Allison can’t still be powerful without it.
charlesw is observant.
Reject Depression, Embrace Nothing
Does a river stop flowing when it inadvertently drowns something?
Rise, Allison, and burst your dam.
Is it me or does that room look a lot like the one that Allison was in before she woke up?
nvm, looks like a completely different room than she ever was in.
Broke: Reach heaven through violence
Woke: Reach Nirvana through utter despair
This is not the first demiurge prison Alice-UN has come to break. However, this is certainly a new set of challenges. Allison realizes she is nothing, but if the way to realize “I” does not exist is through ultimate despair, this is unfortunate. For the sake of all who wish to change, I remain the optimist.
I will continue drinking tea and watch with great interest as I still have some disbelief about Allison’s friends. Perhaps I am a fool to think they will return to her. But it is only the ultimate of fools who cuts god. One wonders if anything about the world outside of Allison’s recuperation is as Jadis says. Suspicious.
